  1. So two strike outs from six pitchers combind over the last 14 innings?
  2. And the rest of the games in between? I'm all for pausing the season and having three straight weeks of triple-headers once they're called up.
  3. I get holding back judgment after only one game, but I think people are correct in seeing this more as a trend continued from last year instead of wiping the slate clean. To dig a little deeper though, what was up with his sub 90's velocity? Uh, that ain't going to fly considering the utter lack of impressiveness of his all around game. This has bad vibes shooting from it in every direction.
  4. Can't wait for this rebuild to start, only three more years.
  5. Performance? Must that be part of the evaluation?
  6. I'm liking posts on both sides of the ?arguement? In no way is Ryan clueless, it's simply likely he's following different clues than many of us prefer. Some of those clues may be unstated and from higher powers strongly pointing to the belief that another 90 loss season or declining attendance may call for more heads to roll of those near and dear to Ryan. Surely it's a tough spot. These same clues would tell me there's a good chance Buxton is promoted, ready or not, in early summer even if out of desperation.
  7. I suspect Ryan knows all of those things, perhaps with the exception of number 4. He might not actually like Pinto, his offense is likable, but others seem to put his defensive issues above that in importance. I suspsect Ryan's biggest issue is walking the straight path toward a rebuild. He seems conservative by nature and is often pulled in that direction, like brining in safe low cost AAAA-type players in an effort to squeeze a few more wins out of the roster. However once in awhile, he gets pulled to the opposite wildly aggressive direction giving large 4-year deals to older pitchers like Nolasco and Santana. Neither approach seems appropriate at this stage for the Twins, I wish he'd just stay on the path of the rebuild, plugging in young internal options that look to be part of the future and cycling through them until he finds the right matches. You may lose more, and you may get criticized for having a low payroll, but to me it seems to be the best way out of this jam and the way to build sustained success. That's what they did in the past when they won.
  8. Another 30+ year-old pitcher on a four-year deal? I like him better than Noalsco, Santana and even Hughes, but no need to triple down on an already ridiculous rebuild philosophy.
  9. Yes and Yes. If the team wasn't going to be putting another rookie in the OF to start the season, I wouldn't if the Twins put Tom Brunansky back in RF. My preference is to have as few players over 30 on this team as possible going forward. It's not happening this year clearly, but fingers crossed for next year. Two year deals to a 36-year old that also requires the forfieture of a draft pick hopefully was never considered, even as much as I like Michael Cuddyer.
  10. While this is on Santana, there doesn't seem to be any supporting evidence that any team other than the Twins were willing to give this guy more than a one year deal, and the Twins of course tried to sign him up for three+ years twice. I'd guess the other clubs were rightfully suspicious about his consistancy, age or his UCL, but for all we know, other clubs had doping suspicions, especially his former clubs who knew him much better. There's one thing that I've been thinking about today. I think it's pretty well understood that Ryan is well respected in the league, regardless if fans here think he should be replaced. I'd bet that normally GMs may warn other GMs they like about particular players, however, in this case Ryan probably would have been kept out of the loop. The Braves made a QO clearly to only get a draft pick as they made no further attempt to re-sign him, so John Hart wasn't going to be giving anyone a heads-up and Dayton Moore probably would feel compelled to keep his mouth shut so a division rival would be hurt by the consequences. And of course judging by how he handled himself with the Josh Hamilton situation, Jerry DiPoto has no friends and is a world class scumbag.
  11. So positive posters can post the same rainbows and sunshine in every thread but the skrptics can't do the same? Vegas has the Twins winning 68.5 games, that's 42%. Why should there be a 50/50 split on optimism vs odds makers supported realism? There are so many reasons to be down about the season. I want to be excited, most of us do, but here we are with a suspended free agent half of us didn't want killing payroll and the rotation, and a roster full of retreads instead of young kids who we could at least dream of projecting a bright future upon. The front office isn't giving us what we want, if they continue to fail to payoff, why can't they be held accountable?
  12. Let's wait to see who exactly Santana's "positive influence" was working on. Maybe we'll get some more suspensions.
  13. Well let's just hope if contracts become voidable, teams would handle themselves as classy as the Angels are now with the Josh Hamilton situation.
  14. Thats four top 20 prospects in the OF at Chattanooga. I hope Kepler gets the regular 1Bgig, but I don't know that the team will move Gonzalez to a bench role. I'd guess Hicks is the DH and some guys get rotated through there some, but Hicks has never been a bench player either.
  15. Well they already all claim they don't know how it got in their system so the excuses would be the same.
  16. You're not really going to start insisting on reasonable doubt? Did another club benefit from Santana last year? The Braves are under budget and were needing pitching going into the off season. The probably made no effort to sign him because they knew.
  17. Ryan can't be blamed for Santana taking steroids, but he can be blamed for signing a 32 year old pitcher with a torn UCL to a four year deal. It's not just armchair fans who were critical of the move, most pundits nationally couldn't figure out why a team on the verge of promoting its young talent would do that to the roster.
  18. The Braves should not be benefitting from a draft pick when they were the team benefitting from Santana's cheating.
  19. In the business world they call it inside information. In the underground gambling world they call it losing at Russian Roulette.
  20. I don't like the idea that the local homer media types will now use this as an excuse for the Twins front office, ignoring every national publication that predicted a terrible 2015 for the Twins before the Santana incident. They're just not making wise decisions. The poor decision to sign an aging pitcher was bad, but now they are making bad auxiliary moves in reaction to it. I know plenty of front office supporters would even agree. I like the men in charge as actual human beings, but this can't continue. Why is this team so damn old after so many losing seasons? What will it take to get new people in charge who will sacrifice the now for the future?
  21. What?! I thought we agreed to riot if Milone got the job over May. I was wondering where all you guys were.
  22. While I think we are all hoping for this, that means there's a ton of players to clear off the 25-man. Unless we're talking a ton of significant injuries, it wouldn't seem to me the front office would be comfortable losing 11 players even if many of the posters here may. Sano alone would seem to make Plouffe, Hunter, Arcia, Mauer or Vargas have to move. We're not even talking about the cutable guys like Herrmann, Schaffer or Robinson. Then make room for ten more guys? I don't think the team is OK with this much in season turnover.
  23. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/division-preview-al-central/ Well technically they predict the Twins to improve as they don't give them 90 losses, but... "With no great teams and only one franchise not really trying to contend this year," Zing! "Unfortunately, the Twins have spent nearly every other position on the field not making similar bets, so instead of high-upside gambles, Hughes and Dozier are surrounded by aging mediocrities like Ervin Santana, Ricky Nolasco, Torii Hunter, and Kurt Suzuki." Double zing! "Minnesota probably should have taken some more fliers on upside plays rather than trying to limit their downside potential" Yowza! "The resulting combination is a team that will not be good nor likely very interesting" Burn!
  24. But I could care less if Plouffe and Dozier start losing velocity due to the natural decline that comes with a build up of innings and age.
