  1. I'd normally agree, but I don't know that you can tell much about a guy long term from only 4-6 weeks. I do believe you could kill a guy's trade value in that time though. I wouldn't normally advocate trading prospects like this but I really think a lot of these guys are going to get squandered. The better the team is, the less likely they will be to let young players take their lumps at the MLB level.
  2. I agree, and I'd rather target a catcher. Still, you don't always have to get the best end of a deal for it to still be a good deal. Even if Kepler, Harrison, Arcia or whomever gets traded for an asset that improves the Twins less than the improvement the other team gets from the Twins prospect, the Twins still improved the team. Better to get something than nothing, which will happen if the Twins sit on these guys and never give them a chance like Michael Restovich, Michael Ryan and Garrett Jones.
  3. You mean he's not already in the system? You'd think drafting 95% relief pitchers in 2 of the past 3 drafts would almost guarantee that.
  4. It wouldn't be a travesty, but perhaps at times unnecessary. A lot of teams are starting to promote these guys quickly as they are seeing so many pitchers peak early and fade away by their late 20s.
  5. I would totally dangle Stewart and see who bites. He actually might be the perfect bait. I can acknowledge that it's too early to give up on him, but if he finishes the year with this current futile strikeout rate in A ball, he might not even be a top 100 prospect. I like Gonsalves and Hu better now and even the injured Thiroe. I'd be OK if another team still values him and have no problem if he latter proved me wrong.
  6. I agree, not sure an NL team would though.
  7. I endorse this idea, though I don't get the Tonkin talk. I see Graham going the distance.
  8. I agree, it might be a huge crapshoot though. The alternative almost certainly is letting guys waste away and getting nothing for them. This situation happened a dozen years ago or so when young Hunter and Jones were locked into the OF and the Twins had younger Cuddyer, Kubel, Brian Buchanon, Michael Restovich, Michael Ryan, Bobby Kielty, Dustin Mohr, Garrett Jones and Lew Ford crushing the upper minors in about a four year stretch. They did well flipping Buchanon and Kielty. They need to do this again. They did OK last decade, but could have done better. Even moving two players didn't clear enough room to give Ryan, Restovich and Jones an honest look, and those guys were highly thought of prospects.
  9. When he first came over, most people assumed he would start eventually. He never did, mostly because the Reds had a ton of young talented arms and they were winning with Chapman in the pen. That ship has probably sailed, but if the front office thought they might be able to stretch him out for 2016 all while paying closer prices, I'd listen. Of course we would have to listen to 1996 Rick Aguilera comparisons for awhile.
  10. Seriously, this thread too?
  11. There's never going to be room enough to give all the youngsters a fair shot. I'd trade Kepler/Harrison/Arcia/Rosario/Hicks/Pinto types even if we don't get equal value, because I really doubt we are ever going to see what some of these guys can do if they don't get consistant 500 or so at bats in a season, and as it is, most of these guys will be lucky to get half that.
  12. My guess is they told the kids it was time for bunting practice. I've seen Oswaldo Arcia do the same thing.
  13. Anyone know what his velocity is sitting at these days? It seemed to me he was getting results last year despite a lower velocity than his pre-draft hype. He was always listed as a guy with room to grow though.
  14. Sounds like a logical actual baseball related discussion to have. My attempts to push all the redundant and devisive negative/positive threads off of the front of the homepage is failing it seems. If anyone wants to join me in other topics, I'll see you guys and gals in those forums.
  15. Twins win 6-2. Let's talk baseball. Or at least what ever it is that game threads are classified as.
  16. I wonder why one needs to stick a fork in something to tell if it's done? Does no one have a meat thermometer?
  17. Not the worst, but definately among his worst.
  18. Dang, at least it was a day game though. I can't really follow those at work.
  19. Awesome stuff Buhr. My 4 year old is in a tee-ball camp for the next couple weeks. I'm more excited than he is, but I love this stuff that gets the kids to start paying attention to the game. We need the younger generations.
  20. Not a fan of a six man rotation, but I do like reading about actual baseball related topics.
  21. Nice first post, though I think the "negativity" is probably being mis-interpreted. I don't think many are "negative" about the actual team, more so the aspects they think should be improved. Everyone was pretty excited back in 1987, but it didn't stop people from commenting on how thin the starting pitching depth was once you got past the number 2 spot in the rotation.
  22. I didn't read the article yet, but I think a big hand has to go to the starters, and perhaps more importantly Molitor, for letting the starters finish the innings. The bullpen may be doing a fine job, but I think it's mostly because they aren't having to deal with many inherited runners. This guys don't miss bats aside from Perkins, so in years past, when the starters would get in trouble in the sixth and get pulled with one out and runners on 1st and 3rd, the guy on 3rd was going to score every damn time it seemed. Now these guys are coming in with bases empty. Well except when they relieve Stauffer.
  23. I tried to do a thread like this a couple years ago. I got ripped apart like the Cleveland bullpen facing the top of the Twins lineup.
