  1. So according to Trump and the National Inquirer, Ted Cruz's dad used to chill out with Lee Harvey Oswald. I'm not so sure Trump should be using that as a black mark against Cruz, some of those would-be voters might not be so bummed about pops involvement in taking out a Kennedy.
  2. My pet peeve is when they act like a 22-year-old pitcher is some rare and special species. Twenty-six of them pitched in the majors in 2013, 20 in 2014 and 33 last year. This is a pretty acceptable and standard age to debut on the mound.
  3. That's probably what will happen, and I won't be too frustrated if two of the young arms remain in the rotation, but personally, I'd prefer to see Hughes in the bullpen I see that Hughes actually has given up 20% more groundballs than flyballs this year. That's obviously way off his career norms. When that percentage reverts back to normal and the weather warms up, he's going to be giving up more HR than ever. And he led the league last year. This team just has to figure out a way to get out from under two of the Hughes/Santana/Nolasco contracts.
  4. Buxton needs to re-tool his swing. I'm sure someone had the bright idea that it would be beneficial to him to limit movement in the batters box, but his swing is just a right-handed Denard Span. There is no stride toward the pitcher and no leg kick. He has the talent and I believe that he'll realize most of it, but he's not going to become a well rounded player being a Denard Span slap-hitting clone. I'm sure some in the organization see that as exactly what this club needs, and that's partly true, but they have to incorporate a more powerful swing or regardless of whether he starts making better contact, he'll never have a chance to live up to the expectations we had previously hoped for. Plus, plenty of guys improve their timing by incorporating a leg kick, it isn't all about making harder contact.
  5. If push comes to shove, Santana keeps his job over Hughes and Nolasco, but the team wouldn't be pissing off employees for no reason, there is a sound and logical reason, if the team wants to win in the future, they need to see what they have in their young arms. Disgruntled baseball players are nothing new, the Twins cannot afford to cater to unhappy vets. That sets a worse precedent than failing to promote youth during a time of rebuild.
  6. Yes, and if the team had to choose between Santana, Hughes and Nolasco short or long term, he should be the clear choice.
  7. No he and Ulger got canned for being the sole causes of the 90 loss seasons.
  8. That sounds Sweedish, you sure it's not ABBA?
  9. I don't know any Rihanna songs. And no that isn't an invitation to introduce me to them.
  10. So who's getting DFA'd to add Juan Centeno or Carlos Paulino to the 40-man for their call up tomorrow? I know Dean has been a near unanimous target, but I think it's Vargas.
  11. I think I like Murph more. I think. Start him the rest of the series.
  12. Lane must be thinking that this is the last tolerable day outside in Houston until October so he might as well drag this game out. For the fans sake.
  13. Murph, don't talk to the ump! Berrios screwed.
  14. Oh for shame, I guess it's different when Keuchel doesn't get his pitch.
  15. I think another mistake of youth is thinking he'll get the same strike zone the reigning Young winner gets.
  16. OMG Jack Morris just coherently summed up why it's near impossible to call up young pitchers in the most ideal scenario. Well done sir.
  17. I was thinking belts. I mean seriously, are we playing a sport or going to work? If a team wants nine infielders, I'm cool with that.
  18. There are plenty of the "establishment" types who have long feared the long term effects of Cruz. Surely most suspect that Trump is a short term nuisance. I suspect guys like John Boehner aren't happy with losing this election but are grateful they may be able to kill two birds with one stone in the process. Cruz is done after this, and Trump is likely an anomaly, the Republicans will likely regroup and figure out how to figure out how to get the "anti-establishment" voters back. If that's possible.
  19. If someone worries about promoting young guys out of fear of what hypothetical free agents might think of them a year later, they have no business running a team. Plenty of teams demote, DFA or trade vets in favor of young players when their teams our out of it. It's the norm, not an exception.
  20. So a few weeks ago Cruz and Kasich made their gentleman's agreement (sarcasm intended) to divide up the remaining states and go at them individually to try to stop Trump. Cruz got Indiana, and he's currently getting slaughtered by Trump there. Is it just me, or did this plan have a clear and laughable possible flaw to it? Obviously these guys thought that Cruz voters would instead vote Kasich and Kasich voters would instead vote Cruz. Did they not consider the possibility that Ted Cruz is such a completely unlikeable guy that Kasich voters very well may prefer Trump, and if not Trump, they likely just won't vote at all? The worst thing about Ted Cruz? He makes me root for Donald Trump simply because nothing is funnier than Ted Cruz with egg on his face, and Trump has eggs with Cruz's name written all over them.
  21. Well this is actually why I tend to think the 6 block walk is a positive, not a negative.
  22. Well I'm going to sound negative, but my intentions are positive: I sure as hell hope they don't. Another season where they kind of compete, but are still really far from a contender will only keep this team from making the difficult decisions that need to be made to get this team ready for next year. 2015 was more fun than past years, but I think we all knew it was a bit of a facade, and it also prevented multiple opportunities for the young guys to get reps.
