Yeah, and tabloid rag aside, the quote is taken from an article called, 'How Yankees can capitalize on MLB’s growing trend of relievers converting to successful starters'. Joel Sherman is as tied into the Twins as he is the Italian National Baseball Team. If they up and vanished tomorrow, he wouldn't even notice. The Twins may be looking to move Lopez, but Sherman is getting this info second or third hand from his sources on the Yankees or other East Coast teams. And if the Twins are actually looking to make trades, it would be in the Twins best interests to obfuscate their true intentions. -
Right, but then why would another team want to trade for him? You can either trade Ober and get nothing of value for him, or hold on to him, cross your fingers his velocity returns and with it his value.

I mean, anyone who watched baseball in the 1980s remembers how rare HR were. Those Cardinals teams that were in the WS every other year probably stole 3x as many bases as they hit home runs.

And speaking of Peter Dinklage, he had a one episode cameo in the new(ish) show The Lowdown, staring Ethan Hawke. It was a pretty decent show. Real Elmore Leonard vibes; felt like it was trying to be Justified. Anyway, Dinklage was a side character who obviously stole the show; if it comes back for a season two, I wouldn't be surprised if they bring him back and turn it into more of a buddy duo.

Actually it got cancelled because the star, Natasha Lyonne, created and is pushing an AI movie/TV studio. The behind the scenes workers are obviously pissed off about it cutting jobs and Lyonne appears to be on the brink of being blacklisted. But it sounds like the show is being shopped to other networks, but with Peter Dinklage staring instead of Lyonne. Not playing a different character, but a short, middle-aged man playing the same character. Not an Onion story if you can believe it. I've also never seen it.

From the onset, my position was that the Vikings needed to know after 2 years max, then try again if needed. So of course last year was a complete waste with him getting hurt in camp, and now we won't know after 2 years. They're stuck kicking the can down the road again, unable to commit one way or the other. I'm so tired of this as it's basically been the exact position this club has been in for the last 25 years. I know a lot of this is circumstances beyond their control, but it always seems the Vikings are victims of circumstances beyond their control. There's really no good options, they're going to have to try McCarthy again next year even if it looks fruitless.

If that's the case, then it's better to roll with the cheaper (and better?) Jeffers.

Agree with other posters, I don't see it. He has only one more year of control than Jeffers and has taken a major step back offensively from Jeffers. But because he was once a top prospect, his arbitration figure is higher and the ask from Baltimore will likely be higher. I've really had enough of the Twins chasing post-hype prospects and rebound players. It's pretty much all they trade for and sign as free agents. When you need 90% of your roster to 'bounce back' you're basically making long-shot bets on 20+ players on your roster. Go get good players, not players who used to be good.

And I wonder if MLB has not approved them yet, because the Twins haven't given any assurances that they won't turn into Bob Nutting and the Pirates even with these new guys paying off the debt from the Pohlad's other businesses. Zero chance the Twins brought in these new investors without discussing future payroll with them beforehand. They know what they WANT payroll to be. I'm wondering if the hold up is the rest of the league is balking at them becoming a bottom basement payroll team.

He didn't have a shot last year? He was way too inconsistent and can't get on base enough to warrant a starting job. No problem rostering him as a bench bat/utility player, but he shouldn't be starting.

Yeah, Wallner physically looks like he should be at 1B, but I agree, I don't think they ever try him there. It will be interesting to see who they do try to move though. -
With first base being the most obvious place to add in free agency, this interview seems to confirm more than Clemens being the intended starter, it all but confirms they won't do anything of note in free agency. If your first baseman can't hold an OBP over .300, you need a new first baseman. We'll have to hope an internal option (who?? no clue) takes his job ASAP. And, find a right handed compliment? This also seems to confirm that Derek Falvey still hasn't learned from the overuse of platoons. Two bad players for one position on the field is absolutely a terrible waste of limited roster spots.

I'd say his reads are much faster than they were the first two weeks. But outside of the QBs who made their living with their legs, I'm not sure there's much history of QBs with significant accuracy issues ever improving enough to become an elite QB.

Usually those underthrown passes end up being defensive PI. The DBs never turn around on those types of passes. So bad pass, and also bad luck on that.

The Jets just make bad decisions. I know hiring a defensive head coach shouldn't be off the table, but sorry, guys from the offensive side have much more success lately. Yet, I count nine head coaches for the Jets since 1996, and only Adam Gase came from the offensive side of the ball.

I'm not anti-KAM, but seriously, I don't know how there can be an honest conversation about this if everyone can't at least agree the last four drafts have been poor and unacceptable. I really dislike the all too common method of arguing where if a poster doesn't like a person, they will pile all the bad things onto the person, never acknowledge anything positive they've done, and act like he/she is a singular evil. It's dishonest and immature. But it goes the other way too when EVERYTHING a person does is spot on. KAM has orchestrated some really bad drafts. Trying to put rose-colored glasses on that aspect takes away from any argument regarding any other positive things he may have done.

Right, I know no one likes the POBO, but blaming him for slashing payroll is pretty absurd. There's enough to criticize him for, but selling off players to drop payroll isn't one of them. It's not like he WANTS to make his own job harder.

I'd fire Falvey too. But Buxton's vote of no confidence clearly would be coming from the team slashing the payroll by selling players, which obviously is being driven by the guy who would be doing the actual firing, not Falvey himself.
