  1. He’s a sharp guy, and I like the spring training instructor angle; you don’t do that unless you like working with young, undeveloped players. I have no problem with the hire. Just thought the timing is odd. Had he wanted a similar job previously, I’m sure he could have had one by now.
  2. I like LaTroy and he always sounds like he’d be a great instructor. But getting into full time coaching a decade after he retired? Kind of weird. Did he pursue this? Or did the Twins cut corners and basically just re-assign a current employee?
  3. He didn't sound like the same sharp and thoughtful Pete Carroll I remembered in that pre-half time interview. Also, Bronco fans booing the tie score at half time? Uh, sure, it's the Raiders, but exactly what has this franchise done recently to gain that kind of superiority complex? I'm just going to go ahead and presume Sean Payton's un-earned smugness has rubbed off on the fan base.
  4. I've got no problem with Shelton, of the four reported candidates, he probably would have been my choice too. He was probably more qualified than Rocco Baldelli back in 2019 when Baldelli was hired in the first place. But I don't know that trying to find historical comps to justify the hiring is helping. Everyone is upset with this team. Ownership, front office, players. I'm not sure these comparisons are going to win anyone over. Particularly because the biggest X factor in this comp was omitted; Shelton didn't go to the big pocket 2004 Red Sox, he went to the 2026 Twins. I'm guessing if Terry Francona instead was hired by the 2004 Royals, he'd have been out of baseball and long forgotten by now.
  5. Well, hopefully this is the kind of situation that team's league-wide top marks in player satisfaction come into play. Wish he was visiting today instead of tomorrow. Today is warmer; looks like it's going to be a high of 46 tomorrow.
  6. Could the Vikings maybe hire one of those 'Senior Football Advisors'? You know, to point KAM in the right direction on draft day? Looking at the team directory, I see a Senior Player Personnel Analyst. But her job description sounds like she deals in spread sheets and her headshot looks like she might be 25-years-old. She's not giving me Senior vibes.
  7. I'd guess the Twins don't give out any multi year deals. Unless it's just a team option with a modest buyout.
  8. The Twins had a 'run production' coach? Can't wait for these comments!
  9. Two defensive players pushing 30 as well. Edit: Nope. Clark already turned 30 last month. I'm sure this will all work out for them though...
  10. So the Cowboys traded Micah Parsons for 2 firsts and a good-not-great DT. Now they trade a 1st and a second for another good-not-great DT. And the 1st they are now giving up is their first, not Green Bay's 1st. Does Jerry Jones presume his Cowboys will finish with a better record than Green Bay?
  11. It's possible Falvey is already walking the plank but the timing isn't right for the final kick. The Pohlad's can tell him to fire the manager and hire a new one, and then the Pohlad's can largely wash their hands of the matter. With the Pohlad's trying to get MLB approval for their new investors, going year to year with their TV rights, and the CBA expiring after this year, there's probably too much going on for them to spend the time looking for a new POBO. And screw them for not prioritizing the on field product. However, unless this team makes the playoffs in 2026, I bet Falvey is gone. I mean after the strike and/or lock outs are over.
  12. Disliking your favorite team's coach is pretty par for the course for 75% of fanbases. But yeah, I don't like him much either. Matt LaFleur seems to be a Nick Sirianni lite. All of the obnoxious personality traits but with less of the playoff success.
  13. Yeah, it would be great if he's there for 15 years like Favre and Rodgers, but instead of being a HOF QB, he's just a Jim Everett or a Bernie Kosar.
  14. Yeah, that's what I'm looking for in a QB that can carry a team. I want a guy who will improvise when needed. The coach calling the play doesn't get to see the defense before choosing; the best QBs don't worry about disregarding the call partially, entirely, or just taking off running. And the best coaches don't worry about the QB doing it either. Now, making the right decisions on the fly is a different story. That seems like something you can learn through experience though. Actually having the nerve to improvise is probably something you can't learn though. You either have it or you don't and you're a boy scout doing what the coach wants all the time.
  15. There were several other botched plays, typically run plays, early in the game. I was wondering if the 3rd down play was another one, because having the QB roll out on an RPO would have been a good call there; either super high percentage pass or QB runs and eats the clock. But there were no receivers on that side of the field and it was the short side of the field so he ran out of room to run real fast. Did McCarthy actually bootleg in the wrong direction? Seems crazy that he could do that, but I think it's possible.
  16. I think Green Bay has fallen into the Kirk Cousins trap with Jordan Love. The guy is a very good QB, but he's not the kind of gritty, improvisational gunslinger that can put a team on his back for a deep playoff run. And I hate to say Jerry Jones was right about something, but I think he was right about Micah Parsons ONLY caring about getting sacks. Jones was still stubborn and stupid for trading him, and the Cowboys are paying for it now, but Parsons is a pretty one dimensional defensive player.
  17. Corners are so system specific, I'm not sure there would be a big difference between one you'd get with an early pick or one you'd get with a 7th round pick. This team definitely could use an upgrade, but they remind me of relievers considering they tend to be victims or beneficiaries of small sample sizes. It usually only comes down to a couple of plays a game that either makes them a hero or a zero. Anyway, long way of saying if they pick one up, my excitement will likely be the same whether I've heard of the guy or not. Just get.....more of them.
  18. People are free to not like Derek Shelton and everyone can (should?) ALSO want to see Falvey replaced, but this team stunk; there is absolutely zero reason anyone needs to be scolded for firing Rocco Baldelli. Also, if Baldelli was a 'scapegoat' he wasn't Falvey's scapegoat. From the press conference: Darren Wolfson: "Ok then so why fire him?" Falvey: "Yeah, that's a fair question Doogie. That's a conversation that works directly with ownership, and uhh ultimately a collaborative conversation about what were the right reasons to make the change." Babble, babble, babble. Then: "I worked closely with ownership, to spend some time together [sounds romantic], they discussed their perspectives on this and it ultimately lead to an organizational decision to make that change." This was almost certainly a Pohlad decision. Woflson's question was surprisingly aggressive and Falvey immediately threw ownership out there, then after rambling a bit, doubled down that it was ownership perspective. And everyone should be happy about this. If the Pohlad's are telling Falvey to fire his manager, Falvey's grip on his job probably isn't terribly strong. 1:10 into the video.
  19. Phew, I just barely got that reverse jinx in on time!
  20. Well, the Vikings at least made this one close.
  21. Dan Campbell: "You think you can be cute and run terrible plays in the clutch KOC? Watch this!"
  22. Green Bay lost. To the Panthers.
  23. I didn't mind a pass on second down, but the naked bootleg on 3rd down with a beeline to the sideline? What the hell was that?
  24. I've never seen a play like that overturned.
  25. Ok, first drive I thought maybe McCarthy looked good because they were running the scripted plays they practiced all week. Drive two was very encouraging.
