  1. It's pretty much the whole reason they shortened it from 15 games to 10. Makes the decision that much easier.
  2. That's what players used to do. But they also used have an OPS .200 points under their norm while doing it. Playing injured is good for the pride but I think it's usually bad for the team.
  3. Well I laughed at your comment before even reading it. Which is pretty much my default reaction when reading something unflattering about Jerry Jones.
  4. I'd stopped reading before that. Yeah, another dumb comment. If he had any thoughts of being some beacon of enlightenment in a league who's stances on social issues are about 50 years out of date, he failed miserably.
  5. Reading the article, yeah, he's mostly right. On the other hand, he had no business making those broad generalizations about the players on his team. Zero chance all of them are homophobes yet all of them get thrown under the bus. Had he left the players out of it and only criticized Goodell, Jones and anyone else running the show it would have come off as more genuine.
  6. Yeah, I like this game. His last hit was August 26th, the one before that was August 20th. Those are his only two hits since August 15th. Now, one could argue that in 8 of those games he's had one or fewer ABs. However, then I'd counter that only pleading insanity could find anyone not culpable for actually using him as a pinch hitter.
  7. Helman it is. Looks like the lefty aversion was too powerful to beat out the rookie aversion.
  8. I bet they don't even issue him a batting helmet. They probably dig out an old Chris Hermann jersey and say, "Close enough".
  9. A deal with the devil certainly sounds like a plausible explanation for TB's prior run of regular season success. Looks like the bill is now coming due however.
  10. Hoping that Buck is a 10 pointer, not a hip pointer.
  11. We wouldn't be having this discussion if Tampa was still going by their original name. They can take the Devil out of their name, but the dark lord's presence is still lurking.
  12. The last couple of years the offense picked up steam when the young guys started carrying the majority of the load. Hopefully the last few games with Lewis, Lee, Wallner, Larnach and Miranda coming through is an omen of things to come.
  13. I didn't like the Santana signing as it stunk of cheap desperation, but regardless of whether they were smart or got lucky, he was a fine signing. But if I give them Santana, then they also have to eat crow on Margot, Desclafani, Topa, Okert, Jackson, Staumont and Richards. One out of seven in player acquisitions this year isn't very good. Not looking to fire anyone, but again, that's why I say Falvey, the architect, shouldn't have his career tied to Levine the GM.
  14. Probably four games at least, but also probably not until 2025. His court date isn't until November. It would be great if he'd get suspended late this season, but the NFL may drag their feet and he can appeal (presuming he loses). Have to think that using an early 2025 pick on a WR is going to be a big discussion next year.
  15. Yeah, I had given the GM a pass for awhile considering the last draft was completely different than the first two. And maybe it's still on ownership and not the GM, I just don't like this strategy. I'd rather stink with the slightest whiff of potential instead of desperately trying to be mediocre. And yeah, my thing is that Hall probably has no potential, but Rypien absolutely has no potential. And if not Hall, there were other young QBs they could have grabbed instead.
  16. The DB situation is unfortunate, but they signed a half dozen LB/Edge/DL guys before all that happened, then cut a bunch of young guys in the last several weeks. I mean, why is Harrison Smith, who will be here for one more meaningless season on the team instead of Lewis Cine? Cine will probably never amount to anything, but there's a better chance he's relevant in four years than Smith. Same argument with Rypien and Hall and Gaskin and any of the numerous RBs out there that are 25 and under. I just don't like this fence straddling 'rebuild' approach as it seems like they're more interested in winning 9 games and saving their jobs than they are in building a sustainable contender. It's the same thing with holding on to all the vets until their contracts are up instead of trading them when you have no chance to truly contend. I get why the GM would want this, but I personally don't care for it.
  17. Cut Hall and sign Brett Rypien. OK, well why? https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/vikings-will-waive-jaren-hall-sign-brett-rypien If Rypien plays, your season is over. This is the kind of pointless move this team keeps making that I really dislike.
  18. Because the Vikings didn't choose Pace, Pace choose the Vikings. He was the top UDFA that year and he came to the Vikings because they had the worst LB group in the league. It was easily the best place for him to score a job. I don't hate Adofo-Mensah, but I don't agree with his roster building. If this team is supposed to be taking a step back this year, why are they still the 7th oldest in the league? https://bookies.com/nfl/picks/nfl-teams-average-age With the Vikings front office, it's really a similar argument as the Twins. Way too reliant on average-at-best veteran players and they either won't, or can't get enough young affordable high-ceiling players to build a sustainable contender. The 2024 draft was much better, so if things drastically change soon, I'm OK counting the last two years as a learning curve error or ownership meddling. But they really have to start building through the draft not free agency. I'll give it until next year before I suggest we need to do something new.
  19. I'm a cynic until this team wins another World Series, so I kind of like Falvey's 'say everything, but really say nothing' approach. Don't share trade secrets. But as a fan, I get the plea for honesty and transparency. On the other hand, whoever is pushing to sign and trade for back end starters, replacement-level-at-their-peak veterans and whatever the heck is going on with non-organizational relievers, that person can take a hike.
  20. I can't reiterate enough how much I dislike thinking of Falvey and Levine as a package deal just because they were hired in the same year. They are different people with different jobs. If one of them is good at their job and the other is not, it shouldn't be a 'both stay' or 'both go' scenario. Frankly, I like the architecture of the organization more than I did during the prior regime. Forward thinking, analytical and willing to change course year-to-year. The free agent singings and in-season trades couldn't be worse. Presuming player acquisition is still the purview of the GM, I think there's a solid case to retain Falvey and replace Levine. Though, honestly, if a team willing to spend money to win championships is offering Falvey a job, I don't know how he doesn't jump at it.
  21. Ugh, or I guess they re-sign Myles Gaskin to the practice squad. What is their obsession with him? This is like the third time they've signed/cut/re-signed him.
  22. Right, attendance problems are their own undoing. The best way to advertise going to a game, is to remind people about going to the games by PUTTING THEM ON TV. This is all on St Peter and the Pohalds. They've worked three terrible TV deals since their attempt to create a terrible Twins-only TV station about two decades ago. It's insane that they haven't hired someone with a background in marketing, Wall Street or TV deals to lead this organization. Instead it's a former intern with a law degree and no experience outside of this organization. Poor decision making. As to your last point, I also completely agree. I am not happy with our ownership, but recognize that this team is more likely to get a John Fisher or Derek Jeter led ownership group than they are to get a Steve Cohen. It could get much worse. We're kind of just screwed.
  23. I'm surprised Evan Hull got cut by the Colts. 2nd year guy out of Northwestern who was known for his passing down skills and pass protection. Also from Maple Grove, though the local angle doesn't do anything for me.
  24. Yeah, sucks, but still glad they did it. Removing him, not trading for him.
