  1. I'm not sure what you mean by limited practice. Was he injured? He's been with the club for two years now. It's not like their offense is loaded, but they're far from the least talented group in the league. Honestly, I wasn't surprised, and even swapped out a Raiders defense in a fantasy league once they announced the switch. It seemed to be a reasonable comparison to last year's Joe Flacco situation.
  2. Royce to Max Kepler:
  3. Boy the Falcons. You're staring at a go ahead TD but need 4th down and a foot, and you stretch out a horizontal run instead of go right up the middle? I thought Cousins was going to pull another one out of his butt.
  4. Man, losing their best defensive player this past offseason was a genius decision. Remove Hunter and Hicks but then bring in 6 front seven players who can both rush the QB AND drop into coverage is going to be impossible to game plan. And then because of that, they don't need great coverage corners, just corners who can make tackles.
  5. The prices for relief pitchers at the trade deadline was absurd. I'm not too disappointed they didn't pay those prices. What I'm disappointed in is during the off season the team targeted no-name relievers in their mid 30's who had next to no track record of sustained success. The Rays get away with this, Terry Ryan actually used to be pretty good at this, but so far, Thad Levine has not shown a knack for this. Get a higher class of bullpen arms right away and don't put yourself in position to be gouged in July.
  6. Considering that in most years, the weakest division winners are usually worse than the teams that are 3rd and 4th in the top divisions, you'd actually be keeping the better teams out of the playoffs.
  7. The Twins waived the white flag on meaningful contention when they refused to replace Sonny Gray last winter. I know everybody is upset right now, but really, most of us knew the best case scenario was grabbing a meaningless playoff spot only to likely get walloped early. Honestly, if people want organizational changes next year, there's a better chance of that if the team collapses and misses the playoffs. A token playoff appearance means less pressure on the Pohlad's to spend, less pressure on St. Peter to do a fan-friendly TV deal, less pressure to overhaul the roster and less pressure to replace this site's whipping boy manager. Getting Swept by the Astros in the first round would just be status quo for this club, which means full speed ahead with the current game plan.
  8. You're probably right, and I think we're already seeing that with some teams. I wouldn't be shocked if the 49ers don't give Purdy a big deal and instead say, we can do this with another QB (even if they're wrong). I still don't like those teams' chances of winning it all though so I'd like my team to be one of the ones with an elite QB, even if he's paid too much.
  9. I don't know, of the starting QBs in the league, even if they weren't studs out of the gate, most at least showed competence. Goff is maybe the only guy who looked completely lost but was able to at least become competent with his original club. Guys like Josh Allen and Trevor Lawrence had struggles, but Allen could do things with his legs and Lawrence was willing and able to air it out. There was excitement for both after their rookie years. There's too much baggage in Carolina. I think they'd be foolish to go back to him ever unless Dalton goes down this year. With Geno Smith, Baker Mayfield and (knock on wood) Sam Darnold, we've seen the path from busted prospect to resurrection quite a bit recently, and all roads run through a different city.
  10. Dalton should be washed up, yet still seems like a situation where he's going to go out there next week and throw for 300 yards and three touchdowns. I'm only surprised at this move because reports last year were that the owner was the one pushing for Young, but he threw everyone else under the bus instead of owning up to it. I guess as I type that out, him not owning up to it is probably his self justification for allowing the move to Dalton.
  11. I would have enjoyed it regardless of who was Dallas' DC!
  12. That should have been the toughest game on the schedule. This team could lose 15 straight games, but hard not to look at the path as being no more difficult after today. Also, the book said if you should hold off on the blitz for a game, that game was today as Purdy is the best in the league against the blitz. Flores said screw that, and Purdy paid plenty. There likely won't be a good game plan for keeping the Vikings defense off of the opposing QB. If Flores truly has been blacklisted from a head coaching spot, the Vikings hit the lottery. Unless a high end college program comes calling I suppose.
  13. Everyone talked about how good of a landing spot Williams landed in because of the skill players around him. Those people forgot that he had a defensive minded head coach and the OC who just came from run heavy Seattle. They might have some talented offensive players, but they don't have a talented offensive mind. Once again, Chicago screwed up with their QB situation. Jayden Daniels running around like Jackson, Hurts or Murray would have been a better fit. But still probably in the hospital by week 4.
  14. Many of the posters can be objective and point out his faults along with the stuff that they do not see as his fault. However, there are exponentially more people on this site who blame Baldelli for everything than there are who blame him for nothing. And the people who blame him for everything seem to think that any comment suggesting Baldelli isn't to blame for a particular issue wholly endorse his job performance. Personally, I'm on board replacing him in the off season if for no other reason than to shock the players out of their complacency and see if someone else can even out the extreme productivity highs and lows of the players, but I'm not going to sit here and pretend that everything Baldelli does is a sin to the game.
  15. Yeah, his stuff was way better than his results with Toronto. Houston was ahead of the game once again.
  16. Talent is pretty subjective, but just looking at the Twins/Senators franchise page on BBR, the Twins best player by WAR this year is Byron Buxton at 3.3. The Senators only had one season where a player had less than that. With 16 games left, Buxton could pass a couple more of those teams if he comes in hot, (of course the Senators always played about 154 games) but even if it's due to injury, the Twins clearly don't have the horses this year. https://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/MIN/
  17. Billy Martin would be more likely to beat up Baily Ober than Angel Hernandez or Derek Falvey. Regardless of who he wanted to physically fight, only a fringe group of players would have respected it (Josh Donaldson?) and no owner or the commissioner would tolerate it in today's game. And for good reason.
  18. Right, the fear of the unknown should be greatly mitigated if the known doesn't provide much offense anyway.
  19. So he wants to be able to crowd the plate, doesn't want pitchers to throw inside and wants pitchers to hit again solely so there's a hostage situation. I don't want to see anyone get hurt and I'm up for any solutions, but his seem to be geared toward making it easier on him. How would he react if the solution was to move the batters box four inches further from the plate?
  20. Purdy is pretty good against pressure, mostly because he does a lot of quick release dump offs. It will be interesting to see if Flores backs off the blitzing. The positive thing is that the Jets have a similar defense, so they'll have a pretty solid idea of what didn't work and what did. Well, I'm not sure anything did work. But maybe Flores will have a better idea.
  21. That plan hasn't worked for this team in 33 years.
  22. I'm not doubting that the Twins can pull it together enough to the make the playoffs, but it's not the same situation as the Rangers. They went on a skid, but still had the best offense in the AL and they traded for Max Scherzer and Jordan Montgomery at the deadline. Like the Rangers, the Twins certainly could catch their balance before it's too late, but unlike the Rangers, the Twins didn't do anything to put themselves in position to win the race should they regain their form.
  23. It does seem the Vikings always end up on the bad luck side of the good QB draft years. 2020 was Burrow, Herbert, Tagovailoa and Love. Last year they probably chase Anthony Richardson if the season before they weren't unexpectedly 13-3. If they choose to keep Moss instead of Culpepper they probably draft Aaron Rodgers (and heck, there's a legit scenario the Vikings draft Rodgers AND Demarcus Ware instead of Troy Williamson and Erasmus James). And while Zimmer is completely wrong about the need for a top end QB, had he gotten his way and not signed Cousins in the first place, they probably draft Lamar Jackson. Who of course would have been wasted on Zimmer, as he'd spend most of his time getting screaming at for running all over the field instead of just handing it off to the RB.
  24. And as far as I can tell, half of the players don't hate their coaches. Well, except for Tua I guess.
