  1. I am so tired of hearing this term. What does it mean? The term is so loosely thrown around to the point where people think Yu Darvish or Chris Archer are considered "aces" Not in my books. No way. All I can say is take a look that the 2003 Marlins team that won it all. Look at that staff. Then go look at what that staff had accomplished before the 2003 season. Not a hint of an ace going into that season. Not one hint. And they win it all. IN NY, no less. It all depends on who gets hot and who has the stones at the right time. This franchise never had the balls, talent or luck to do anything in the post season during the Gardenhire years. An ace would not have been the panacea for those teams. We couldn't hit worth a damn. Go look up what we did in all the post season series during the Gardy years. We pretty much averaged less than three runs scored a game. I don't care who you have on the mound. You ain't winning jack with that kind of offensive production
  2. I don't get the logic here. Dozier is absolved even if insists on batting leadoff? Of course, Paul makes out the card, but if Dozier insists on hitting leadoff he is giving Paul a conundrum. Dozier is supposed to be a leader and you would like a guy like him to be more pliable, "Sure skip. Wherever you feel I should go" He shouldn't make a big deal out of it.
  3. I don't doubt that Molly has done some bootlicking for Dozier and Joe
  4. I can totally see 20 home runs coming out of Jorge's bat. For some reason, I always saw him as having a little bit of Robinson Cano in him. Don't know how or why his options got burned up so quickly.
  5. Our discussion is not about the underlined part. It is about his value. I agree with the original poster's assessment of the comments in a way. I don't care to defend what I feel. I am interested in the facts. I think bench players needn't have job security. To me, Grossman isn't a "good fit" and we can find another guy to be the 4th outfielder who makes more sense. Like someone who can actually play outfield.
  6. He's a .251 lifetime hitter. Maybe he needs more time and he just never figured it out
  7. OK fielder? No, i don;t think so. Grossman is a bad outfielder. The only indicators that make him look good are ones that include walks. He stares at strikes and hopes to heck he can get on base. That strategy works a little bit. So what? I am not a fan of his game. I can see with my own two eyes that he isn't a very good player. He doesn't have speed, he doesn't have power, he doesn't really hit for average, he is a below average fielder. He led the league in errors made by a left fielder during his wonderful 124 OPS+ season in 2016. YOu want to tell me errors don't matter? His range is horrible. He has had a couple of collisions and some near misses out there. Keep him OFF the outfield grass. Please! Look, I am not trying to start and argument, but these numbers (and comments) that get thrown out in an attempt to make Grossman seem like a keeper get kind of silly after a while. I would much rather have a guy with some speed and defense in his game in the OF.
  8. Not really. I just think people blow up his value because people overstate the virtuosity of walks. A lot of the time he stands there like a statue and lets hittable pitches go by with runners on base. YAY he walks! He literally does nothing else well. He has a 2.3 WAR in over 1,600 at bats and yet people get upset when someone says we should part ways with the guy. Maybe go in a different direction. I don't get that The guy is barely replacement level. I am stunned that he has a defense team asserting his value. He was a waiver wire pickup, waived TWICE by the way. We can get another Robbie Grossman oft the waiver wire in the snap of a finger
  9. Trust me when I say it is actually BETTER than it used to be when they had Derek Sanderson
  10. You ever heard the Bruins announcers?? YOu want to talk about the biggest homers ever
  11. If I see Grossman DHing just once I might go postal
  12. I don't like the comment. Do you WANT TO play baseball or what? I don't care if it is misplaced confidence, him being straight up, whatever. This is not the kind of lackadaisical kind of stuff I need to hear from a player whose sole mission is to walk. Yay Robbie! He is a horrendous fielder (almost a danger to others out there), he can't run, he isn't all that great a hitter..... HIs career WAR is 2.3 after over 1,600 plate appearances. The next thing I want to hear about him is simply.... "Grossman cut." No elaboration required. And I agree with you. I think a mantra a lot of Twins players need to stop repeating is, "not trying to do too much". What is wrong with doing something extra? The way some of the players on this team toss that phrase around is starting to get irritating. As if it is a horrible thing expending a little extra energy. Heaven forbid you might be seen "trying to do too much!!" What could be more horrible than that??
  13. I'd have no trouble with either of the pitchers, but I give an EMPHATIC no to Moustakas
  14. One reason I like the deal is that it sends a clear message to Mauer: "If you want to come back in 2019 you are going to need to earn it, big fella" Seemed a week ago Joe had the open invite to come back so long as he wanted to. That may have changed and I think that is a good thing.
  15. Getting Lynn and Odorizzi might be a lot better than putting all the eggs in the Darvish basket. I would be satisfied if Lynn and Odorizzi was what they got this offseason, and in my opinion, better than getting Darvish
  16. Iam He was probably taking supplements so he could get his protein and didn't drink enough water. I am also going to guess he ate more roasted veggies and BS vegetarian food than he did raw vegetables, Pretty stupid if you ask me.
  17. Do people still care who wins that thing?
  18. We can look back and say great career, but these last four seasons we have not seen anything resembling "great". We watched him become one of the league leaders in taking strikes. It is maddening to watch him stand there and take strikes the way he does. He seems to do it more with runners in scoring position. Very frustrating to watch, considering he is supposed to be a "juggernaut". We have watched him get crippled by an opposite field shift. Not sure why he has ignored the right field corner. I would like to see him scorch some balls down the right field line. Is that something he can no longer do? Odd. I think any HOF aspirations are out the window at this point. His career took too much of a nosedive. He cannot be viewed as a catcher any longer. We can't line him up against Berra, Piazza, Carter, Bench, etc....those guys caught their who career. Mauer has spent too much time away from the position and can no longer have that chip in the HOF lottery. It is what it is. As much as we might want to see him in the HOF we don't dictate the process Finally, our market is like 3% of the league. What we think here is all but irrelevant with regards to the HOF. I personally feel he would need to have a two or three year renaissance. The HOF is for guys who have a track record of durability. As an offensive player, you have to put up the numbers. Joe doesn't have the power numbers so he really needs a high hit total That is all I have to say about Joe Mauer and the HOF. I really do not care about the Hall
  19. I'm OK with this one.
  20. Fair enough. I just think this new team of GMs do not want to do much unless we are in the playoff hunt. I think they are interested in some trade deadline stuff. Plus this market is very confusing right now. And I agree with the silly extensions this team has given out. The one to Hughes is a prime example, Blackburn's is painful. Then again, he was one of Gardy's guys. I want to see what guys like Gonsalves, Slegers and Littel do in ST. I think it is a matter of time before we get some young starting pitchers who can actually come up and do something. I also think our bullpen will be a lot better this year.
  21. Oh and I will gladly admit I was wrong if Darvish has two very strong seasons off the bat. Not a terribly big deal.
  22. My words: NOt saying I need you to do that Was only asking if the topic of Darvish comes up (and I am as of now done talking about him) would DaveW say that. Not you, not anyone else. You have your take and I have mine. I don't agree with much of your thoughts on this issue, but so what? I am not looking for a debate with you so please.....let me take the high road here
  23. How do you glean that from what I said? That is a heck of leap to take if that is what you read in my words. I said IF he gets injured. Simply put, it is within the realm of possibilities and when we are talking about a major FA pitcher signing it is something to think about. I also read NOTHING into the offer beyond that is all they thought he was worth and I don't think he is even worth that. I think I have made that pretty clear throughout the discussion about him.
  24. Will you come forward and say.... "Geez. Maybe I was wrong about Darvish" If he ends up injured or having a subpar 2018 season? They are paying him for the first two or three seasons by your rationale. If he craps the bed early then will you admit you made too big a deal about this? NOt saying I need you to do that, but you certainly are making a big deal about a player that never EVER is going to play for this team.
