  1. Whoever pitches badly. Gray would probably get claimed. Brunett has options at least. Liriano is taking up space. PJ deserves another shot. I would keep Gray as long as possible for now.
  2. Plouffe isn't going anywhere/ He's out of options, so he'll just keep moving around. Looks like first base may be his new home...the Twins are becoming a "Who's on..." skit. Casilla on third, I don't know in right, tomorrow pitching because today stinks.
  3. The Twins offense is a mess. Plouffe isn't going anywhere, but playing everywhere. Parmelee is so overmatched and having to use Alexi off-the-bench...come on. The Twins need a bench. PJ pitched a great game, but stranding guys at third with one out not once but twice.....
  4. And, again, you an build thru free-agency unless you have a nucleus to build around. Free-agency can fill a few holes, not ALL the holes. And if you have too many holes, why would a free gent want to play here unless you vastly overpay them. Right now, today, Span has worth because the Twins could make him available, which makes him worth more than 80% of the outfielders out there right now. Plus he is producing. If he fell to 2011 totals and we wait for everyone to com e back, or the divisions to open up and MORE teams make players available, he becomes less of a blue-chip piece.
  5. http://twinsdaily.com/entry.php?993-Guerra-moving-quickly-toward-Target-Field Another very nice piece about my adopt-a-prospect.....
  6. Right now, happy to see them getting multiple innings out of Guerra. Until you see how he fares against major league pitchers, would wait on making him a closer of the future. But it is an idea.
  7. Coomerific Career for Danny? Coomer played hard and studied hitting (as well as teaching) and overcame size and weight to have a rather pleasant career and enjoyed every moment he was on the field.
  8. The Twins still have a 40-man opening.
  9. The shuffle shuttle has begun. Minir League Players of the Week score call-ups...except Ben Revere.
  10. Like Ben Revere.....why isn't he leading off and playing everyday up here while Morneau is disabled?
  11. Isn't there another 2B/PF at Rochester that we forget about -- Brian Dinkelman. He got on base, not much else.
  12. The Twins could also go after arbitration eligible places that are on the cusp (up or down) that could pan out and give the team 1-3 years of service to supplement the young guys. I doubt that any free agent would sign with the team...even if the Twins offered loot. I mean, would Tori Hunter come back. Johan Santana. Jim Thome, even....all on the downside end of their career and could shine and contribute as teachers and inspiration in a rebui lding environs.
  13. http://www.baseballamerica.com/blog/prospects/2012/05/deolis-guerra-finally-reaches-triple-a-looks-like-he-belongs/ Other people keep talking every week about my adopt-a-prospect, so he must be doing something right... and he is! 4 games at Rochester. Has a win. Faced 34 batters...1 walk, 10 strikeouts, has hit a couple of guys, six hits in 9 innings. One double-play ball. NO RUNS, yet. Talk is that he settles in around 89-91 mph..... I'll keep watching.......
  14. Until Justin makes it a four-man rotation, keep playing Parmelee as he is the future (Bates, Rizzoti, etc. aren't). He needs a look. But, please bring up Revere and let him play everday until Justin returns. Let's get something going on the basepaths. Sadly, playing the Rule 5 guy is a slap in the face of a Twins #1 draft pick.
  15. All I can say is that if a player is hungry enough to be a major league player, that should be motivation to shine in the minors. If a player has but ocne chance to make the majors, this (and maybe next) would be the time because of default or a little sunshine moment.
  16. Don't even think about any top-line free agents WANTING to sign here unless the team improves dramatically and looks to be a winner. Maybe throwing stupid money would help, ut bandering names is just dream talk. Have to realistically look at how the team can see what they have this season, what they have in the minors and the need to push players, and who they can garner from other teams by dangling everyone from Doumit, Willingham, Capps, Liriano and even Morneau and Mauer. NO ONE WANTS TO PLAY FOR THE TWINS RIGHT NOW! Something bad has happened. And keeping Liriano for another year...he ahs a say in the matter, too. Maybe if he feels arbitration is the only way to line his pocketbook, but the Twins may not want to risk what they have to pay to allow him to make that choice and hope for a high-level draft pick in return. Yes, at his current rate, Liriano will not get a great onbe-year or multi-year contract, but like Cuddyer (and David Ortiz with the Red Sox) the hometown team would pay plenty to keep the services. Players want to play for a winner. They will take a ton of money if offered, but I don't EVER se the Twins offering a ton for what is just a temporary placement part in what has to now be a long-term strategy.
  17. Is he any better than Aaron Bates? Is it worthwhile to have him tke playing time from Parmelee. If Morneau and Doumit play 1st (and Mauer) then the Twins end of waivering him. 1st asemen, at least journeymen, are not hard-to-find at the moment.
  18. You usually SAVE the closer for SAVE opportunities, the possibility of back-to-back victories. If a team is playing poorly, you CAN have a closer by committee as you rebuild for the future, or a temporary closer. CAPPS is not necessary for the just the closer role,. Put ALL the relievers into a rotation.....
  19. You can talk about siging free agents, but who would want to play here...NOW! And the Twins don't throw money around. Hate the comparison to Pittsburgh, ut the team will be forced to build a roster from other organizations 26th and 27th players and wait for the minors to unfold.
  20. Well, who DHs when Doumit is in right field, since it looks like Plouffe will stay on the bench. Why not give Revere a good week or so out there before Morneau returns...but sadly he won't play first and Pamelee will stay up here. Tne Twins suddenly have a lot of role players but few regulars......
  21. These are opportunities...even Clete was one...if you have the roster spots you can pick up guys that don't have a place in an organization because they are an extra part. The flipside is that if there are truly better than average, he can be traded for a 3-4 year minor league prospect or a veteran need.
  22. Perkins has found his niche as a set-up man...potential closer. It would be nice to experiment with Liriano in relief, but I doubt that he wants to do that, even though he could be lights out if he tried. No high priced free agent starter would sign with the Twins. No high-priced free agent would consider a rebuilding team. Second tier free agent would consider for the right price. But players not only want money, but want to win. So, you have to combine it with a few core veterans that you control, supplemented with prospects, maybe trade for a "free-agent" style A player if you will eat their salary, and hope you can find a diamond or Maloney in the rough. Getting the 26th or 27th player in an organization *or the 41st or 42nd) isn't always bad for the short-term.
  23. Span is a lead-off hitter. He plays centerfield. He has a reasonable contract that will only sky-rocket in a couple of years. He has had health problems, he is replacable in the long-term, his value right now is fairly high, doubt that it could get higher. The question is what pieces (not a piece) can you get for him and why would another team do this.
  24. Why did he Twins go to Rochester? First class operation, and Rochester wanted to be part of a winning team when the Orioles moved on. The Twins were winners..... The Twins have long fared well in areas outside the state: Iowa, the Dakotas, parts of Wisconsin, up into Canada, as far as Montana and Wyoming had Minnesota Twins fans. Some dated back t the days when the Twins were the only team really in the upper northwest. Seattle made some inroads. Colorado was considered a threat, but ahd trouble wooing longtime Twins fans (even when both teams were losing). The Twins have taken their radio network and such in-house and did expand their take of the pie, but still surprised that the Twins, because of their far reach, aren't a national baseball telecast/radiocast powerhouse. They have major fan bases in seven (lbleit small population) states. I always like the idea of a minor league team close by, but seriously, how many Twin fans go to Quad Cities or Beloit? More make the trek to Kansas City or Milwaukee...but unless it was in our virtual backyard (Burnsville), I doubt the out-of-town traffic would ake significant ticket sales for the team. t's a nice thought, but if the Beloit team was the St. Paul Saints, would the general baseball going populus really care about who is who and who owns hhet eam?
