  1. I'm aware that he started pitching in 1917. Time catches up to everyone and it appears to have caught up to Big Sexy in a hurry.
  2. I thought it was July 15. Since he pitched yesterday, perhaps that was wrong.
  3. I think Gibson getting a no-no today in Houston is probably 20 times more likely. And, honestly, I'd hate if it happened because then we'd be stuck with him for the rest of the season ... and probably next season, too.
  4. While those guy are awful, they're at least young so optimism from the Wonder Twins is understandable. This is a 44-year-old who got teed off on in the NL and then served up AAA batting practice last week. The fact that anyone thinks this is a good or justifiable move blows my mind.
  5. Is Jones back on the disabled list? Doesn't look like he's pitched since that 1-inning on the 4th.
  6. That was why I used the quotes. I don't really think they are either, but BS belongs nowhere near a team with a winning record.
  7. I really want to make snarky jokes about this, but honestly I'm too mad to do so. 44-year-old Big Sexy starting for a team that's "in the hunt" is the biggest joke I can remember since becoming a Twins fan back in 1985. This is Tyner hitting cleanup. This Bartlett playing OF. This is Butch Huskey.
  8. That's four nice starts for Stewart since coming back - at least on paper, anyway. Hopefully he'll be able to use the second half to build some momentum for next year. Either way, another sign of encouragement when the big squad is getting blown out.
  9. Are we talking about an ace or are we talking about Jose Quintana? I have zero problem giving up talent to get talent, but that's too much IMO for Quintana.
  10. I'd laugh and hang up the phone if they asked for that package, much less more on top of it. Hopefully the Yankees step up and eliminate the temptation.
  11. I was just over reading the comments on MLBTR ... White Sox fans seem to think a "number 1" like Quintana should be able to net them Gordon, Kirilloff and Gonsalves. Did I miss a punchline somewhere? When did Quintana become an ace? Would anyone consider such a package? I'd probably throw kittens into traffic if the FO did something that stupid.
  12. Love seeing another good start out of Stewart. I know a lot of people are down on him, but I'm holding out hope. Too young, forces too many ground balls, and gives up too few HRs to let a lack of Ks be a big concern.
  13. It's cool that Granite's getting called up, but isn't "huge news" overselling it a bit? We're talking about a fringe Top-20 org guy that probably projects as a 4th OF, right? So, slightly better version of Jason Tyner, not the next coming of Mike Trout.
  14. True, but that's 2-3 AAA starts that could go to someone like Gonsalves or Romero. Heck, they could even go to Jorge. They all appear ready for that jump in competition.
  15. Given the inconsistency of Mejia and Gibson, and the consistent, but dreadful, work of Santiago lately, I'm all for it. I feel we're seeing signs of consistency from all three of them the last few times out - the former two in positive ways, the latter in negative. Maybe roll them out one at a time. Santiago is faltering (for lack of a kinder word), and I wouldn't shed a tear if he were traded/DFA'd/moved to the pen in favor of someone younger. Jorge wasn't lights out, but showed a lot of poise for a young kid making his debut and I'd like to see more. Put him and see what he can do over the span of a few weeks. If it doesn't work - i.e. ineffective or not going deep into games - then bring up one of the other two. Repeat the process for the other starters as the continually falter.
  16. Nice to see another decent outing from Stewart. Not spectacular, but given what he was doing earlier in the season, these last two outings have me encouraged. Also good to see Jones getting back out there. His AA numbers after coming back last year were pretty nice and hopefully he'll be able to keep that going. Plus, with Burdi and Jay out, it'll be nice for us to have another name to add to Curtiss, Reed, Bard, etc. list when complaining about Falvine sticking with Belisle and Breslow for too many months.
  17. Ugh, I/you/we see the numbers that Tonkin is capable of putting up and really start wishing it would translate to the big league level. I feel like we're all in an awful relationship with him. He's cheating and we all know it, but we so desperately want it to work out that we keep giving him chances. Why do we do this ourselves?
  18. It would make sense ... isn't that Breslow and Belisle up front?
  19. Blackout seems like the best way to watch this bullpen.
  20. Anybody have Belisle's email address? If so, send him this link: https://rochester.craigslist.org/search/apa
