  1. Yeah, you're right. I've probably got nothing to worry about with Rodney. Definitely doesn't have issues with the long ball.
  2. If you guys are good with the ticking time bomb, more power to you. With the number of people he walks and his age, it's not a matter of if, but when they catch up. He could've saved 100% of the games he saved in 2016 and he was still awful.
  3. An 80% save rate would not be even close to ideal. That's essentially 1984 Ron Davis. I realize the game has changed and your better relievers pitch where they're needed, but can a team just on the cusp of contention really afford any games given up by an aging, strike zone-challenged closer with deteriorating stuff? Obviously there's no sure-things, but I'd like something a little bit more stable. At 41, I think we're more likely to see the 2016 version of Rodney, rather than the 2017 version, which was also not all that good.
  4. I'm more than a little concerned that the human gas can is closing games to start the season. My hunch is that Reed will take over that role in short order - unless they plan to use him as the true fireman. I'm also still scratching my head on the Kinley thing. In hindsight, I think they'd probably be better off with some combination of Chargois/Busenitz/Bard/etc. over Rodney and Kinley, but I give the Wonder Twins credit for making the pen a priority.
  5. I'm not high on Granite in any way, shape, or form, but what in the history, pedigree, or track record of either player leads you to believe that LaMarre has a higher ceiling than Granite? They're pretty similar, except one is younger and has been more successful.
  6. It was a LaMarre is 2 for 40 in his career joke. The nickname just came to me in a vision.
  7. All he needs to do is hit 3 out of 40 and he'll be better than the Sultan of Swing (and miss).
  8. Here's hoping the starters never need a day off because this bench is absolutely brutal.
  9. Did you hear he tweaked his swing? Just wait until he's more comfortable with it ... I'd say .845 isn't out of reach.
  10. The difference between Martinez and LaMarre is that Martinez had a track record of success in both the majors and minors before making a tweak that took him from very good to MVP level. As for Morrison, I think the jury is still out as to whether his changes will result in sustained success or if it was a 1-year thing. I'm hopeful it's the former, but it could just as easily be the latter. But again, at least at times in the minors, Morrison flashed the tool that keeps him in an MLB lineup.
  11. For everyone claiming that LaMarre has "pop" in his bat, where is this "pop" manifesting itself? Obviously, I know that pop doesn't always translate to HRs, but you often see guys with pop rack up doubles. LaMarre's hit 10 HRs twice, and only had more than 20 doubles once. So is he just savagely tearing into his singles, rocketing them everywhere, or is he just hitting line drives right at the defense? Because his "pop" certainly hasn't translated to actual success or numbers that indicate he has any "pop."
  12. Yeah, but new swing. New approach launch angle. Late bloomer. What'd I miss
  13. Reality isn't always fun. And his track record - in MLB and recent stops at AAA don't indicate any different than the Burroughs example.
  14. Enough of the touchy feely sunshine and unicorn fart stories. Best 25 players and that's it. If this guy is one of the best 25 they've got, this team is in for a long, disappointing year. I look at his minor league stats and I don't even see a AAAA player - I see a career minor leaguer.
  15. If any of the new bullpen arms tank, this could be the one that really hurts this team the most.
  16. Correct, either they think they've got enough flexibility to survive a game or two if someone were to get dinged, or they're confident they can get him through this time ... even after they and the Reds have both already failed to do so.
  17. It's possible that the positional flexibility of guys of like Adrianza, Escobar, Garver, and to a lesser degree Morrison, would allow them to keep Vargas and Grossman, while having Granite a call away should anything happen. Buxton goes down, Kepler/Rosario shifts over. Rosario/Kepler goes down, Grossman/Garver/Adrianza/Morrison goes in. Obviously not ideal, but if it's anything more than a day or two, Granite could be up quickly. Or, maybe they're hoping to try to pass him through again with the final big roster purge of the spring and hope he gets lost in the shuffle and he can be one of those guys just a call away in Rochester.
  18. But could his offense/defense combo really be that much worse than what you're going to get from a cooked Aybar?
  19. So if/when Sano gets suspended the left side could be Esco and Aybar? Woof.
  20. I'm hopeful that it doesn't have to be an either/or situation and they can carpool to the airport.
  21. What was your favorite Anibal Sanchez moment?
  22. We're gonna need a new nickname for him. If I have to hear "LoMo" for two years, I'm going to start punting kittens into one of our 10,000 lakes.
  23. If he produces at last year's rate, or at least something close to it, this is a good deal. If, however, he regresses to his pre-2017 form, then I can't say I'm a huge fan of it. I like the aggressiveness, but if he doesn't produce, you essentially swapped Vargas and Chargois to pay more money. Jury's out for me.
