    Time for my tinfoil hat: GMs are unhappy with getting rid of August trades, and are already posturing for their return next season. In a sign of silent rebellion, they make only a minimum amount of trades and only for players they feel they have to move - expiring contracts, malcontents, etc.

    Semantics. LEN3 knows where his bread is buttered, and hasn't done anything to stir the pot in at least 5 years. Unless, of course, that stirred pot is the best place to get some sort of stew or soup during spring training.

    For the "we're set up to compete for the next 5-7 years" crowd ... the 2006 Minnesota Twins would like to have a chat. Personally, I'll trade big-time, short-term success over extended, middling success for the next few years. 1 World Series trophy > 10 division title banners.

    It's not just the Cano/Diaz trade, but Lowrie and Familia; the stuff with Callaway, Vargas, and the reporter; the chair throwing meeting a few weeks back; tossing the pitching and bullpen coaches from the already sinking ship, only to not have improved results. If you look at the New York media's coverage, it's pretty much been a train wreck aside from committing to some of their younger talent (Alonso and McNeil, more specifically).

    I'm skeptical that it was, but their new GM seems completely inept at his job, so maybe it really was their best and final. I've been critical of this FO, but maybe they got a read on the guy (or maybe dealt with him during his time as an agent), and realized it just wasn't going to happen. I'd rather they back off of pipe dreams and focus on other more attainable things.

    I believe he's out of options, but still has 2 years of control left. Misses a fair amount of bats, walks are consistently around 3 per 9, and he was pretty decent in the pen when they had him out there in '16. I'd assume his stuff would play up a bit if he took to the pen. It could just as easily be a crazy idea, just a guy that's always intrigued me.

    2 for sure, 3 would be preferable. I would definitely love to have any of the three big guys, but I really made my list based on my realistic expectations of what I think the FO would be willing to part with to acquire help. I'm not confident they'll cough up the pieces to get those guys though.

    I would definitely rather pay more now to get what I really want, rather than waiting for a sale or whatever happens to be left.
