  1. I'm slightly relieved you didn't spin this into some sort of postive message. There isn't anything to be positive about, and there is practically nothing to be optimistic about at any position.
  2. You make it sound like you can find quality pitching just anywhere. You can't. It's the hardest thing to acquire. Plus, this teams has more holes to fill than just a couple pitching prospects, who are unknowns anyways. And if you trade Span, than you have to replace Span. There's one more hole to fill. They will never go out and sign a high priced FA pitcher. They will wait for the leftovers and try and sign a guy or two on the cheap, like they always do. Most likely for 1 year deals. Realistically, the Twins are several years from competing again, or even knowing if any of their upcoming prospects will be any good at all.....which I wouldn't bet on based on recent history.
  3. The Twins could lose 90-100 games with or without Span. I would hate to see him go but, if he can return a quality starter or more, you gotta make that move. If you can't pitch, you cant' win...
  4. I agree with half of this take. The assumption that they can be competitive next year...is absurd. Of the trade bait listed, only Span could possibly attract a high upside pitching prospect. The 2013 rotation is a complete unknown, other than Blackburn, and he stinks.
  5. The answer(s) to your questions, I'm afraid, is that is really doesn't matter. None of the above have any measurable upside. Maloney probably won't make it through the season with the Twins. Diamond is a soft tossing lefty with below average stuff, and ordinary career numbers. Blackburn should never have been given a 4 year deal, and has practically no trade value. Swarzak is nothing more than a long reliever/spot starter. Not one of these guys would be in any decent starting rotation. It's a sad situation, and there is no easy way out of this box.
  6. Correct! I would think the Yanks would put more value on a pitchers ability to get outs, as oppossed to 'getting after it' and 'battling his tail off'.
  7. Liam Hendricks....Twins top pitching prospect. How does that make you feel?
  8. I don't disagree with your overall point, but I think you are a giving this next group of "prospects" far too much credit. All of the names mentioned are in no way sure things, and most likely marginal Major Leaguers at best.
  9. Alright. So rather than lose 15 out of every 20 games, they will only lose 12 out of every 20. I stand corrected...
  10. There is very little upside across almost the entire roster. Hard to see how this team can improve much in the coming months, or years....
  11. You picked the Twins to win the Central...and go to the World Series. Just sayin....
  12. You picked the Twins to win the Central...and make it to the World Series. Just sayin...
  13. The signing didn't make sense several months ago when it happened, and doesn't make any more sense now that he's pitching. 1. The loss of draft pick(s). 2. Bad PR, as no Twins fan wanted this guy back. 3. Compounding the horrible Capps/Ramos trade by resigning a below average closer. 4. Over paying him, when conventional wisdom would say no other team would offer that. I still can't understand what Ryan and the front office were thinking. Except maybe they thought he could rebound and become trade material, and even that seems like a stretch. I don't get it....
  14. I never got past....'theTwins will win 5/6 and get to 10-12'.
  15. He battles his tail off though...
  16. I have been hoping Valencia has a big couple of months so some team would be willing to overpay for him. I was thinking a platoon of Burroughs/Hughes or maybe even Ploufee could be useful. I just don't see Valencia as the long term answer at 3B.
  17. I think you are missing the point. It's not about lying. It's about incompetence.
  18. I think the answer is definately NO. Willingham's deal was the largest free agent signing the Twins have ever had....roughly 3 years 21 mill.
  19. Should have been like 4-0 after the first. Attempting to steal in that situation, against the Yanks, with Carrol running, Mauer coming up, followed by 4 and 5 hitters.....I don't get it. You need a lot more than 1 run vs this team.
  20. Hanging around the .500 mark would be a small miracle for this team.
  21. Preposterous statement nominee. And a potential #1 seed
  22. Most likey, he would look overmatched at the plate. I'm all for moving anything that can improve the pitching talent at the AA and AAA levels. Still miffed that the Twins didn't have the balls to sell everything they could at last years trade deadline. Opportunity missed....
  23. Mauer earns 24% of the teams payroll. The term Hometown Discount has been used a lot in this town whenever a high profile athlete has a contract negotiation. Rather than a discount, the Twins paid a Hometown Premium. This contract will be an anchor to this organization for its duration. Not only is this the worst contract in baseball, it's the worst contract in sports. I doubt they could trade this guy even if they wanted to. Who would take him for the rights to pay that salary? Funny thing is, the PR disaster that was last season, and the way Mauer handled the whole thing and how out to lunch he seemed.....he could never survive in NY, Boston, Philly, Chicago, L.A., or any market other than here. How do you think the Clueless Joe act with the nice smile would go over in NY?? I don't think he ever intended to go anywhere else, and he and his agent got every nickel they could get from the Twins. Hindsight is 20/20, but his value is worth about half of his current contract.
  24. ...and the Vikes are going win the Super Bowl too.
