  1. You couldn't trade Pavano, Blackey or Swarzak for anything of value, much less Youkilis.
  2. The list of players you mention just proved Alex's point. Half of the guys on that list are on their way out of baseball, or should be soon. Each one of those guys, except Benson(hopefully), is a dime a dozen with practically no upside.
  3. I'm not going to call Thrylos any names. He's a passionate Twins fan;somewhat delusional and over the top, and often times lacking objectivity in his points. Example? Thrylos picked the Twins to win the Central, beat the Yanks in the postseason, and go on to win the World Series in 2012. And he was serious... I guess my point is....Don't take anything Thrylos says seriously. He does try and use logic in what he says, it just happens to be twisted logic that's not always based in reality.
  4. So, if the upside for a team is to hover around the .500 mark, in a bad division, with an outside chance to make the playoffs...you think this should be the goal? Striving for mediocrity should never be the goal.
  5. So they won a few games, big deal. It doesn't make the future look any more clear than it did a few weeks ago....
  6. That is wishful thinking, at best. I sure hope the FO doesn't see it this way. That rotation you just named has a lot of IFs, and even IF all of those thing fall in place...it's still a below average rotation.
  7. One thing has nothing to do with the other. They took the best guy on the board
  8. I never liked the trade for Delmon. They gave up way too much, plain and simple. Garza was the Twins #1 prospect at the time, and teams had been asking about him for years. The Twins needed hitting at the time, but they just gave up way too much.
  9. You must mean Central Division Championship run. To the Twins Management, that is winning a championship.
  10. How does 18-32 project to 80+ wins?
  11. All true..... Except Mauer...he's untouchable, but not from the Twins perspective.
  12. Do you realize how many "ifs" are in this statement? And sooner or later, Walters will most likely come back down to earth and prove he's nothing more than a fill-in. His minor league track record is average, at best. Diamond has only a little more upside than Walters. Do you really think the Twins will go out and overpay for a free agent pitcher or two? They never have before. The Jason Marquis, Sydney Ponson and Livan Hernadez type guys don't count.
  13. I don't disagree with this take at all. The thing is, the Average fan doesn't really understand A) How bad the situation really is How difficult it will be to get out of this box(pitching in particuliar) C) How meaningless it is to have decent veteran players on a team that loses 100 games. This team needs to start thinking bigger, and the sooner they do that, the sooner we might be competetive again.
  14. Exactly. The could lose 100 games plus with Hammer, Span, Morneau, Mauer in the lineup. If you can't pitch, you can't win. What difference does Span and the Hammer make if you have the worst record in the league?? I hope the FO realizes it needs to get drastic in order to have any chance of contending in the next 3 or 4 or 5 years. I would love for them to make some forward thinking moves just once, rather than pretending they can piece together a contender with journeyman minor leaguers and washed up veterans. I HOPE they realize this....but I doubt they have the balls to think big enough.
  15. You are joking...right??
  16. All of this back and forth is somewhat entertaining. It doesn't change the fact that our Hometown Hero is massively overpaid, and his performance since signing the contract has been underwhelming, to say the least. And this contract will hamstring the team for the duration of the deal. The Twins, and Super Joe, have egg on their face.
  17. I honestly don't think any team has Plouffe on their radar. And they certainly wouldn't see him as SS material. He's incompetent....
  18. That's a terrible comparison. Jared Burton had some decent success in the Majors going back to 2007.
  19. Twins are too smart to give the guy a look...
  20. A team leader isn't all that valuable when you lose 100+ games.
  21. What's up with Plouffe? He isn't very good.....
  22. If only the Twins could face their own starting pitchers....
  23. Totally agree with this take. Once you get past Span, is there anyone that other teams would target?
  24. My goodness. How sorry is the current state of affairs when DeVries, Diamond, and Walters are the main sources for optimism.
