  1. With the call up of Hildenberger and Busenitz earlier, Rochester is running rather thin in available support. Reed and Melotakis may make appearances later this year, but currently have only thrown 3 innings between them at Rochester. Probably won't see them for at least a month. Given a choice I would prefer to see these four take their lumps then other teams retreads. I expect to see Santiago, Pressly, Hughes and perhaps Tonkin again. Looks like a revolving door set up for the pitching staff in general for the rest of the year.
  2. When the year started, the Twins were expected to be a good team in 2019. No matter how this year turns out, that to me is still the target. We've waited 8 years for this team to be a consistently winning team. I would much rather see the Twins have a nice long run as playoff contenders starting in 2019 then sell off the upper level talent for a couple of short term rentals. As far as this year goes, only Sano as a hitter and Santana as a pitcher appear to be playing at and would be reliable pieces on a playoff team. The rest still need much more development time or never were pieces to be counted on. Even Sano and Santana have had their struggles for much of the past month. I think the real value of Santana, Dozier, Grossman, etc is the develop time they provide for more players in the minors to make it to the upper levels of the system and for the current young players on the roster to build into a real core on a playoff contender. If I'm a veteran on this team I expect to get traded. A strong playoff team not only has a good 25 man roster , but ready replacement level players in the upper minors. This team has neither. Watch the team develop and grow. This team has shown glimpses for the future and for the first time in years has provided some hope. Relax and enjoy the show.
  3. I'm a bit puzzled by Brian Navarreto making the allstar team. His offense does not appear to support his selection, is his defense really that good?
  4. Good pick. Scouting report shows him as the best position prospect in this years draft.Twins obviously need pitching, but I would rather have the every day player.
  5. I saw and remember the game but don't remember the Julie pose.
  6. Three 3 years from now Gore would be the same age as Wright is now. The raw talent with Gore seems higher than Wright and those 3 years of play against advanced competition with a higher caliber of coaching should develop a better pitcher by their age 22 seasons. Currently in their system, the Twins have multiple options for mid rotation to back of the rotation starters and I think they need to set their aim higher and take the risk.
  7. I would expect Kepler to lock down the number 3 hitter spot soon for at least the next 3 or 4 years.
  8. If this looks weak now, fast forward 6 months. Do they go to arb with Santiago or Gibson? Seeing Berrios start, do we expect Romero or Gonsalves to start quicker? I personally don't expect either before the middle of 2018 on a semi-regular basis. Following the expected trade of Santana, 2018 doesn't have much in the way of starting pitching in the picture. It doesn't look like the rotation picture begins to clear up much before 2019.
  9. Nice to see Diaz and Palacios continue their strong starts. Seems that they should be moved up a level in a few weeks.
  10. Without Santana, Santiago is the Twins best veteran starter. We saw him last night. With Santana, Santiago is the Twins second best veteran starter. Its possible that a team could go to the playoffs with a couple rookie starters as your second and third best pitchers but very unlikely. I can't believe that the new Twins management saw this as a playoff year and hope they are not ready to change the game plan because of 50 better than expected games, Pitching is not a strength for the Twins and there have been no injuries since the season started to weaken the game one staff.. To me the real value of Santana this year is to take pressure off the young starters. I believe the plan at the start of the year must have included trading Santana for the right price.
  11. I'd like to see that lineup with Sano at 3rd and Diaz at 1st. Probably 3 years away. Wade looks like he could take playing time away from Buxton. as well as Rosario. His consistent AB's will be hard to keep out of the lineup next year.
  12. It's not unusual for a pitcher coming off major surgery to not throw at top speed early in the spring or a veteran pitcher just working into shape.
  13. Going forward, the Twins need to spend as much time as possible this spring getting him ready to play major league shortstop.
  14. Looks like we really have the potential for a dominating pen in 2018. There SHOULD be a lot of turnover in both the pen (and rotation) this year. I hope management is prepared to allow the growing pains.
  15. So far Rosario and Buxton have made about 270 plate appearances in Triple A and Kepler about 125. I think these players are receiving minor league lessons and development time at the Major league level. If they all start and play over 130 games and receive over 400 plate appearances this year (2017) at the Major league level, maybe by 2018 we will be able to see what kind of players they really are. Hopefully better development plans are being put in place for the teams future pitching pieces.
  16. Alex Meyer was traded to the Angels. Baseball America lists him as their #3 prospect. Probably don't want to trade Dozier there.
