  1. Public service announcement: Aaron Hicks goes deep again today for the Yanks. His 5th homer in their 25th game (and he hasn't played all of them) puts him on a 30 homer pace (roughly). He's also hitting around .300. Meanwhile, JR Murphy is slashing .235/.297/.412 with 1 HR and 3 RBI in AAA.
  2. The workload is an inning at a time. Not sure why it matters if that inning is in Tennessee, New York, Minnesota, or Siberia. I'd imagine the bullpen "imploding," with the talent on the "big club" (or AAA in any other organization), isn't a matter of "if" it happens, but when. Belisle is a high leverage guy, for crying out loud. Nobody else in baseball would give him a major league deal, and we're running him out in the 8th inning. TR really conditioned everyone to believe that ultra conservative (aka excuses for delaying service time) is the only way. Ironically, the guy oversaw more losses than anyone in history over a quarter century.
  3. He's very impressive. I was questioning him coming off of last year, and after his rough spring. Couldn't have been more wrong. That said, it's still early. This is a jinx waiting to happen. It can't be overstated how important this guy is to this team possibly competing sometime soon.
  4. I know this won't happen, but I'd still rather have Gibson in the rotation than Hughes. Gibson is capable of putting it together, and going on a sustained stretch of decent starts from the back end of the rotation (he's got the stuff, anyway). Hughes is a ticking time bomb. He just doesn't have anything left in that broken down body. Gibson gets himself in trouble with iffy control/command. Hughes is just getting absolutely pounded, but is getting extremely lucky. It's like watching a slow pitch softball game when he's on the mound. That's due to flip.
  5. It's time to turn Berrios loose in the majors again. The outlook on the Twins maintaining the promising start improves drastically if a guy like Berrios can give them a legit #2 arm. Great to see multiple high-end SP prospects pitching well in AA/AAA. Haven't been able to say that much in recent memory.
  6. Stewart sure is an interesting case. Let's just hope people in high place don't turn this into the false "this why you shouldn't take Greene #1." It just has to be thought about like this: 1). If Kohl had gone to college first he wouldn't be a different pitcher. 2). If Steven Strasburg had been selected 1 out of HS he wouldn't be a different pitcher. In other words: it's not the timing of the player's selection that determines the outcome. Turning it into that, and saying, "No HS RH drafted in the top 10 has ever suceeded, etc etc," and apying that to Greene is ridiculous. It's more coincidence (after all, Roger Clemens, Max Scherzer, Instert any great RH pitcher, were a HS pitcher at one time.....and still would've been so if selected #1-10 overall out of HS).
  7. Good for Mejia. That's got to feel good after the demotion. Also good to see Melotakis and Burdi putting things together. It would sure be nice to see those 3, and Berrios up with the big club at some point this year. The talent is there for those guys, and I think these guys could have sustained big league success once they're ready. Ideally, I'd like to run out a rotation of Santana, Santiago, Gibson/Hughes (only one of the two), Berrios, and Mejia. That's a respectable rotation in terms of "stuff." Then, get Burdi and Melo in 7th/8th inning roles (instead of guy like Belisle, who really have no business there). I know it's not going to happen tomorrow, but if this team is going to be in contention down the stretch, they need an infusion of arm talent, and get fewer innings for some of these guys who need "guile" to get them through a few innings before the inevitable meltdown.
  8. Nobody actually watches ESPN anymore, do they? It's absolutely terrible.
  9. I'd love to see them extend him. But would he do it? This guy could be an MVP caliber guy. If he keeps playing 3rd and hitting the way he has been.....I can't even imagine the sum of money he could get in a free agency type scenario down the road. He'll make enough just in arbitration to set up his family for life. Signing 6 years 35 million.....I wouldn't do that knowing I could easily be looking at 30 percent of that in just one arbitration year. Then, after that year he could be leaving an average 10-15 mil per year (or more) on the table. When you know you're already going to be wealthy, barring catastrophic circumstances (for which there is insurance), would you leave a possible 30-40-50 million dollars on the table between now and 2024?
  10. It's unreal to me that we're up by a run in the bottom of the 8th, on the road, and Matt Belisle is the guy... Regardless of whether he gets out of this inning....that is absurd.
  11. Agreed. A lot of peeple went gaga over Odor's punch, and thought he was some kind of incredible fighter. Clearly, those haven't seen guys that really know how to throw a fist properly. Plenty of guys out there that could put Joey Bats to sleep in a phone booth with their off-hand.
  12. I think the rotation would be best with Berrios replacing Hughes.
  13. My God, this outfield may be pretty good defensively, but are utterly worthless offensively. At this point, can we say Rosario even has any offensive upside anymore? Can't come through in a big spot against Shonn Greene, and the rotting undead corpse of K-Rod? Can we get one of these DHs up from Rochester, already (Park, Vargas, Palka), so we're not seeing the likes of Grossman and Gimenez in the same lineup, hitting in the top 6? That should have been a W.
  14. Between Park, Palka, and Vargas, the Twins certainly have no shortage of DH candidates that appear to be swinging the bat right now. At some point, they have to find a way to cut the pitching staff down to 12 and get one of these guys up here. Is a Grossman is a fine stopgap, but I'd like a little more pop out of the DH spot. I'm still really excited to see what a healthy Park can do, and think he deserves a shot. It appears he's carried his success in Spring Training over into the first week in Rochester. Is a Boshers or O'Rourke really necessary in the 40-man at this point?
  15. Any thoughts as to why Blankenhorn didn't start the year at Ft. Myers? I would imagine he'll be there shortly.
  16. The hysteria over high schools pitchers is nonsense (weren't all pitchers high school pitchers at one point?). I'd want him if he were only a pitcher, but it's even more nonsensical when considering this guy has great upside at SS/at the plate as well. This team has had two huge problems for a while now: Starting pitching and shortstop. You have a shot at a guy who has elite upside at both. You also have consider the kids makeup, which appears to be top notch. The kid has shown the ability to excel under adversity, has an elite work ethic by all accounts, and is s great leader in the community. I just don't know how you possibly justify taking someone else. Especially the college outfielder, who I've also been hearing a lot about. I know you never draft based upon need, but when you have an OF full of 23 year olds, taking another 22 year old OF at #1 overall doesn't make much sense to me.
  17. Heard (rather, I read) that Keith Law was asked if the Twins are going to take Hunter Greene, and he said he has sources who say they're going to take a college player...and not Greene. Smokescreen, for some reason? I hope so. If true, there is no combo of words and .gifs that can adequately express my level of disgust with the thought of passing on that kid. Everything about him ive read oozes superstar.
  18. I like the way Duffy looks out of the pen.
  19. Not sure I like these decisions to let the two most K prone guys on the team swing away in these situations. Really could use another run here.
  20. Absolutely has to bunt there. Unreal.
