  1. Great read. The "see what you have theme" is something they should have been pursuing a good chunk of last year. Polanco in particular has suffered from the lack of direction. They've exhausted his options without even finding out what he can do at the MLB level.
  2. Signing Park only made this worse. Without that, you simply allow Sano to DH another year and still allow your OF prospects to come up and earn a spot. At that point, you could still move Plouffe at this years deadline and be no worse off.
  3. I know you're right, but that doesn't mean that TR shouldn't pick up the phone.
  4. This is part of the discussion. Market value only takes one team with circumstances that dictate paying for a guy at a position of need. I'm not suggesting that they'd fetch Syndergaard, but sometimes an offer can surprise. That being said, I don't see Plouffe fetching much. Nunez would probably command more, but not substantially.
  5. Trading Nunez should also be on the table. It's time to free up playing time for the younger players. Moving Plouffe is only a part of that. That would also keep Moli from playing Nunez at 3B instead of Sano.
  6. Not to mention that one move would free up several logjam's and make an everyday lineup easier to field. Holding onto him coupled with the Park signing only added to the number of puzzle pieces that didn't fit. Trading Plouffe for whatever the market will bear was the way to go. Short of that, moving Sano to RF instead of moving Plouffe there or to the bench would have been preferable to what they ultimately decided on.
  7. I agree with pretty much everything you said, but I do think that both approaches were similar. It's just that the Royals were able to actually execute it properly and have the results to show for it. Most FA moves the Twins make are disasters or aging vets that are on their last legs. Big money deals the Royals made worked out for them, they haven't for the Twins. That's the biggest difference IMHO.
  8. That's what makes not trading him over the winter even more frustrating.
  9. This Pat Dean guy fits right into this rotation.
  10. Sounds like a certain LF/DH they have.
  11. With this team, it's not absurd.
  12. A bit soon to be attaching that label, isn't it?
  13. Good...as long as he's playing every day. Give the kid a real opportunity to see what he can do at this level.
  14. I do like Guillen for a variety of reasons actually baseball related, but I don't think he's the right fit. If I can't have Joe Maddon, Dave Martinez is probably the next choice for me as well.
  15. He's not Molitor. I'll agree in advance that that isn't a very good reason.
  16. A much better fit in my view.
  17. And the food...man the food is good. And what a variety of said food and local beer!
  18. Agreed. It was fun while it lasted, but expectations definitely needed to be tempered coming into this year. I believe that I had them at around 75 wins but hoped that they'd hang around .500. Even that seems to be overly optimistic.
  19. I can't like this comment enough. Agreed 100%.
  20. I really like Plouffe and hate to see him go, but I've been advocating a trade since the trade deadline last year. That was solely to get Sano in the lineup with a set position, as he's clearly in the franchise's future. I've always hated the move to RF for multiple reasons. One of them is the logjam it created in the outfield, as you've touched on.
  21. This. Straightening out the logjams that exist on this team should be the priority. Guys like Plouffe and Nunez are blocking prospects or forcing them to play out of position. Maximizing the value of those players is secondary, but important. My only concern is that TR makes moves that end up creating other logjams in the process like the Park signing. Even though I think that signing has potential to be a good one, it just created more problems for Moli to put a lineup together. The pieces of the puzzle need to fit together better than they currently do.
  22. Last year was the worst thing that could have happened to this team, IMO. It led to complacency in the FO and overhype from the fan base. I did provide some hope that things were turning around, but I think many fans worried that they caught lightning in a bottle and still needed to make some changes to actually improve the team. Losing 90 games in 6 of 7 seasons would result in mass shakeups in every FO in any professional sports team anywhere else. Will a 100+ loss season result in anything different?
  23. I'm guessing that you do, just not in this context.
