  1. Yup, they did that earlier this season too with a makeup game against Seattle I think it was.
  2. I'm more interested in seeing the young talent showcased than wins/losses, per se. But I'm all for playing the game the way it should be played in order to win those games within that context. It is a fine line though. I want the young guys to learn how to win at the highest level first and foremost, but that doesn't mean that something nonsensical should be done in order to achieve that. I'm adamantly opposed to tanking. I don't really see playing young players in lieu of veterans, particularly those not going to be around past this season, as tanking. That may be semantics to some, but it's typically very clear in my mind. If this team is able to get back to .500, it'll be because underperforming veterans have finally given way to other players that are producing. Those players could be a Forsythe type, or it could be a Gonsalves or Austin making the most of his opportunity or a Sano coming back from the depths of A ball to climb back to his former prowess. If that gets the team back to .500, cool! If not, oh well and hopefully the experience pays off next year.
  3. It caught me by surprise too! I think I looked in three different locations to confirm the start time when I heard that Gonsalves was starting. Craziness of a make-up game I guess.
  4. Tom, first pitch is actually slated for 6:10.
  5. I hear ya. Those kinds of hours limits time for a lot of things. Especially if you're doing it on the weekend!
  6. And gets away with it anyway.
  7. So naturally, that's what MoY brings in...
  8. This has become more interesting than I was hoping for. Though sadly, I'm not really that surprised.
  9. Reyes may have won the battle, but Rawlings won the war in that AB.
  10. That ball stayed hit. Sheesh.
  11. Good spot for a bunt there. Build on the lead. ..and next pitch drives him in. Just like you draw it up.
  12. Jesus, I didn't think it was that bad yet.
  13. awfully hard to get greeted by a sloppy dog kiss and wagging tail from a picture!
  14. Hate to break it to ya, but...
  15. But camping with a dog is awesome! I grew up with huskies. Cairns are too terrier-ish to go camping and maintain ones sanity.
  16. Exactly. If it isn't blatantly obvious when they're around, it's crushingly obvious when they're gone.
  17. Thanks! We got another Cairn terrier. We missed this stage with our last one. That's both good and bad.
  18. I hate this. At least Austin is DH'ing. Though Wilson is catching again. Why? Just why?
  19. It's real man. It's not irrational. You don't really know the full extent of what you're missing until it's not there. We lost our dog to cancer last September and it took forever to adjust to not having a dog around. In fact, I'd say that I never really adjusted. Now a month ago, we got a puppy. He's exhausting and a turd sometimes, but all I want to do is run home and play with him! Maybe you're right, it is kind of irrational. I'm not crying! You're crying!
  20. I'm not one to make a big deal out of beanings. While I think they had their place in the game at one point, when guys started tossing 100+ routinely it begins to be flat out stupid and downright dangerous. Even so, I generally don't get too bent out of shape about them. However, this one is different. First pitch? It's about as bush league as it gets. This sort of thing has no place in the game.
  21. Umm, I agree? Not sure what more there is to say.
  22. I'd try to trade him first and if there are no takers just let it ride out this season. There's virtually no way I re-sign him unless it's a team friendly deal with the understanding that I'm bringing in a younger guy to start in front of him. While probably unlikely, my hope is that Gordon is able to force his way north after ST.
  23. Would have liked to see Molitor let Berrios work out of that mess. Now is the time to let him work through those things. A pitcher, especially one deemed to be an ace, needs to learn to get out of a mess when he doesn't have his best stuff.
