  1. Harper hadn't pitched since Thursday. He may very well have been gassed, but neither of us know that. Nor do we know that about Odorizzi. We're not in the dugout and we're neither Rocco or the players involved. Not really sure what Harper has to do with the conversation. May came in to relieve Odorizzi and got out of the inning without further damage. Odorizzi had already given up a HR that inning. Harper started his own inning and got into his own mess. Are you insinuating that Odorizzi should have finished the 6th and gone out again for the 7th?
  2. Assuming Odorizzi wasn't gassed, sure. But we don't know that, Baldelli does. He was at 100 pitches when he came out. No sense in prolonging an inning at that point and possibly allowing the Astros to put up a crooked number. With Odorizzi's tendency to struggle through a lineup a third time, I don't have an issue with him getting pulled there. In that ballpark, runs can be scored in a hurry and Houston has a pretty potent offense. No sense allowing Odorizzi to put another guy on or give up a HR. Limit the damage, put out the fire before it gets too hot.
  3. Well said! I also have to accept that I'm simply not going to enjoy watching the bullpen hang on for dear life many nights! But it is what it is, like it or not!
  4. I think this point is getting overlooked a bit so far this season. At least as it pertains to the position players. I think Rocco is doing a good job of getting everyone pretty regular playing time, especially considering the odd scheduling so far. Hopefully when the schedule normalizes he doesn't continue with the hockey line change approach, but I do like that he's getting guys AB's with regularity. That should pay dividends when the inevitable injury bug starts biting. It does help that the bench players are able to play multiple positions. That hasn't been the case in recent seasons, but I think Rocco is doing pretty well with what he's got.
  5. I doubt you are, but it would be very interesting to see the demographics. I go to fewer games as well. Most of that is that I simply don't have the time I used to, but it's also gotten more expensive and I'd rather spend that money elsewhere.
  6. I like that theory. I think you're definitely on to something there. I think the deterioration of the family atmosphere plays into that as well. Not only is it exceedingly expensive, but with the continued push to sell alcohol the behavior disintegrates too. I don't have kids, but it's not uncommon to find myself sitting there wondering whether or not I'd subject my kid to what goes on in the crowd sometimes. Keeping families and the next generation of fans away is big problem, not just for baseball.
  7. A mathless world is a wonderful world! Thank you game threads!
  8. This used to be me. I still like to get to the park early and watch BP when I can, but I used to grab some food and a beverage while I sat there. And then there were plenty of times when I'd go back and get more food and/or beverage. Like someone upthread said, I'd really like to hear DSP respond to a question about this info.
  9. Exactly. I don't go to a ball game for the restaurants or the newly added strip mall in RF. I have this weird desire to watch a baseball game, keep score when it interests me and maybe munch on some seeds but only if I brought them in with me.
  10. Ha! I'm old enough to have been around during the Ron Davis era, but young enough to not have any first hand recollection. From everything I've read and been told, that's a blessing!
  11. Fair enough. Let's not pretend that even the best pieces of the bullpen have locked things down otherwise this season though. I'm not expecting perfection, but they have a tendency to make games far more interesting than one would hope. You're correct, relievers will allow base runners and runs at some point. My point is that these guys seem to do it nearly every outing. I find it amusing that you mentioned Nathan and Perkins, but no Every Day Eddie? That guy made those two look like The Sandman. It seemed like he was always pitching with the bases loaded.
  12. I agree completely. I mentioned up thread that I used to get something to eat and/or drink at every game dating back to the Dome. These days, I refuse to buy anything unless I don't have time to stop somewhere otherwise. I do agree that it's a problem. You'd think that there has to be a breaking point somewhere. I doubt that I'm the only one that won't buy anything, but I do know that I'm in the minority.
  13. Agreed, but they seem to be approaching ludicrous speed proportions these days.
  14. I know this is beating a dead horse, but when the bullpen's best assets still end up making a game interesting against a team like Baltimore, it doesn't give me any warm fuzzies inside...
  15. Minimum wage in Mpls is $15/hr for some, but I'm not sure how vendors fit in to the classifications. It's being patient phased in.
  16. I don't know about most people, but as a season ticket holder, I can tell you that I went from eating/drinking at nearly every game while at the Dome to where I don't buy anything at TF now unless I don't have much of a choice. I flat out refuse to pay the insane prices inside the ballpark. I also think that's a shame because they do have a lot to offer for food and drink, just not at the prices they charge.
  17. Actually, this is what you said: "Jose Berrios velo is down this year. Wes Johnson can't teach anything. (From 93.2 mph to 92.1 mph" Fastball isn't mentioned at all. Just a velo. At any rate, it's still early in the season.
  18. Are those the fastball velo numbers he's talking about? He wasn't that specific that I saw. In any case, perhaps he's still building up to his mid season velo? I don't know...I'm half talking out of butt. I'll admit it!
  19. He did the smart thing and went with it though. Close pitch with two strikes too. He was probably protecting the plate.
  20. I was just going to say that it's so nice to see him stay productive so far. Good sign for sure. The team is reaping the benefits for sure.
  21. Perhaps he's throwing more off-speed stuff. Average velo only tells part of the story.
