  1. Gardenhire seems determined to lose the game in the 9th then go home.
  2. Unbelievable. Texas took out Nathan with good reason, then the Twins leave Perkins in.
  3. Perkins is making this way too close.
  4. Nathan going out -- is he injured?
  5. According to the CBS site, it is an earned run.
  6. With all due respect for Joe Nathan, I hope that the Twins blow him off the mound.
  7. That was his debut. Hopefully they understand that.
  8. He threw only 84 pitches through the 7th. I am amazed that he did not go back out for at least a batter ir two. Maybe he told the coaches that he is tired/injured.
  9. Great idea to bring in Fein with a one run lead -- sink or swim. Who cares if the Twins win.
  10. I agree. Too bad Gardenhire disagrees.
  11. This would be a good time for Justin to paste one.
  12. I hate to admit this, but I am so baseball deprived that I have been watching the Yankees-Red Sox game. Fortunately, I was rewarded by watching Jeter drop the most routine pop fly I have ever seen. If Dozier had dropped that one, all of the pitchforks at Menards across Minnesota would be bought tomorrow.
  13. Ar the rate that Menards is moving west, it won't be here until I am ready to build a wheelchair ramp.
  14. I am experiencing the same problem here in California, your neighbor to the west. I really wanted to see Deduno yesterday and DeVries today. And you and I paid a lot for extra innings and we also get the commercials. Sometimes I wish that we had a Menards here, because the commercials make me want to go there.
  15. I agree, and would add that there were doubters when the White Sox signed Jake Peavy, but this year that decision is looking very smart. Also, if the Twins make the postseason next year or in 2014, an ace or two will be vital to having a good chance of advancing.
  16. It seems to me that Hendriks lacks an "out" pitch that will be effective against MLB batters. Hopefully he can use his time in Rochester to improve on or more of his pitches.
  17. I have been enjoying this show. But I also enjoy Bill Maher and watch Fox only to try to understand how they are able to trick people into being the dupes for big business and billionaires.
  18. What you say makes a lot of sense to me.
  19. Maybe the error got reversed -- I am looking at today's box score and see the hit and the 2 RBI, but no errors.
  20. It seems to me that despite all of the debate, almost everyone agrees that Liriano might be very bad going forward, or he might be very good going forward. Liriano's track record suggests that he is likely to be bad overall, but no one can predict the future. What is undeniable is that when Liriano is in the zone, he can pitch like an ace. It also seems undeniable that aces are rare, and very valuable to teams that can make the postseason. And the Twins don't have many potential aces in the farm system. I agree with sbknudson that this is a matter of risk, but I hope that the Twins make some offer based on risk assessment. For example, if the best guess is that there is a 25% chance of Liriano being worth $36 million over 3 years and a 75% chance of him being worth $14 million, then why not make an offer of $19.5 million per year (i.e. $36 million + $14 million + $14 million + $14 million divided by 4). We can argue about the percentage chances of each outcome or the dollar amounts, but it seems to me that there is a lot of value in the possibility of Liriano maturing and becoming able to consistently realize his potential. I agree with Chief that the offer should be made soon. If Liriano stays hot (and perhaps even improves) for the rest of this season, then he might get more than $36 million on the open market. But because he and his agent realize that the risk runs both ways, it seems possible that 3 years at something less than $20 million might be possible.
  21. Was he having trouble locating his fastball or was it too flat or too slow? Or some combination of these?
  22. They did not carry the game on Extra Innings today, but what I am reading here gives me hope that Deduno may develop into a solid starter.
  23. If Valencia can keep improving, then he might fetch a decent price from a team that has long term needs at 3B.
  24. Imagine having both of these guys on the same team, in their primes. Thome and first base and Killebrew at third. Even with 7 Nick Puntos at the other positions, that would be a team that would score runs.
