  1. Blueprint: Steal players in trades: Jake Arrieta and Rizzo Sign big time and costly Int'l Free Agents (think more Sano) Be at top of draft and get sure impact college players (Bryant & Schwarber) Know your timeline and trade older players for top prospects (Russell - SS) When close to contending sign a Ace (Lester)
  2. Wheeler not added to 40 because they're probably not sure if he'll remain on the 40 during the off season. Rather a club have to put Wheeler on their 25 for a year than put him on their 40.
  3. Rays traded Wil Myers for Stephen Souza who at the time was in AAA. Not sure of the remaining Rays. Go with the most sure thing - Ben Cherington. He worked under Theo, built up the prospects, traded for Porcello, and Boston wanted to keep him after they hired the new President. One blemish is the Sandoval signing.
  4. How soon is the outside GM being hired? Demoting Berrios and Duffey - why? 2016 is all about development and isn't Neil Allen the best Twins pitching coach? Antony figured out on the same day that both pitchers had no confidence or their performance wasn't satisfactory. Put Mauer on the DL and call up Vargas. Repeat 2016 is all about development.
  5. Concussions are not just a one or two week item. Each successive concussion needs more time to recover. Obviously they thought more highly of Turner coming out of the draft. I think it's hard to know the true impact of concussions has had on his playing time behind the plate the past two years.
  6. Mauer's production is dramatically down Mauer is overcompensated. Mauer's injury shifted him from a strong position © player to a average (1B) player. Mauer is in the way of the Twins rebuilding I think everyone likes Joe as a person just not the production.
  7. Any 2017 roster decision must be based on 2018 and after. Plouffe, his 307 OBP, and 10 mil contract - gone. Milone - gone Santiago - TBD
  8. Comparing Nunez and Grossman is like comparing apples and oranges. Nunez is a free swinger and Grossman takes "professional" at bats. Nunez MLB career .312 OBP (age 24 -29) Grossman MLB career .343 (age 23-26) just entering his prime Their MiLB OBP has a even bigger difference .400 OBP players don't grow on trees. At the very least I want him around until it's proven otherwise.
  9. .266/.392/.436 - 2016 .333/.422 /538 - vs LHP Unless you get great value in a trade, you keep and play Grossman as a minimum as a 4th OF/DH vs LHP. He even has a .376 OBP vs. RHP. Slash lines say it all.
  10. Buxton should have been in AAA for the past month but Ryan brought him up to get some wins with his defense. 2016 is all about development and Buston is and has been lost at the plate. He needs to be in AAA to relax, gain some confidence, and work on his hitting and bunting. Twins fans need to have patience.
  11. The following will be unpopular but Twins should send Buxton down to AAA to play everyday, work on bunting and everything else. At the same time, tell him he's going to play every day in September when he comes back. Maybe that will give him the freedom to relax, enjoy baseball, and build up his confidence. Only bring up those who are no-brainers to be added to the 40 man this year.
  12. Did Suzuki not get traded because the Twins may want to renew his 2017 option?
  13. Tanking = trading away your veteran players. Trading E.Santana, Nunez, and Suzuki will make the Twins worse this year. Playing D.Santana will make the Twins worse. Picking at 1 or 2 provides the extra money to get another top ten pick in the top of the 2nd round. Look at the Astros draft of Correa and McCullers. The MLB draft and int'l budgets are set up now to provide a significant advantage to the bottom teams.
  14. The Way Too Early Top Five - 2017 Draft 1. Jeren Kendall, OF, Vanderbilt 2. Tanner Houck, RHP, Missouri 3. Alex Faedo, RHP, Florida 4. J.J. Schwarz, C, Florida 5. Hunter Greene, RHP, Notre Dame High (Sherman Oaks, Calif.) Twins need a top four pick.
  15. The remainder of 2016 is all about 2018 and there after. Trade any asset (for good value) that will not be around in 2020. Nunez, E. Santana, and Suzuki need to be traded. Dozier needs to be traded if the return is very good. Unfortunately Mauer cannot be traded (no trade clause and Twins won't eat that much money).
  16. Ryan should have known the Twins of 2015 were not going to win the World Series. The plan has been to shoot for 2017 and beyond. Trading away any 2017 asset for 2015 was stupid. You have to know the timing of your team - Buxton, Sano, Kepler, Berrios, ...... The Jepsen trade was done by a GM who either feels the pressure to get into the playoffs for his ego or truely doesn't understand about team construction timing. A few years ago Theo Epstein traded away his best pitcher who still had another year and a half on his contract to get a top prospect (who played last night at SS). He knew his team timing was for 2016 and beyond.
  17. It doesn't matter if Chih-Wei Hu is a good MLB pitcher or not. A good GM has to know to build up his assets when his team will have the best chance to make a run for the World Series. See Theo Epstein and the Cubs for example. Last year the Twins were not close to the Royals. The only reason they were as close to the playoffs (close doesn't count) was that Duffey exceeded everyone's expectations down the stretch.
  18. Every move should be based on improving 2018-2022 teams. Trade Nunez and Dozier since they have peak value. Trade Suzuki and Obad if you can get anything good. Trade Plouffe because Sano needs to be playing 3rd base. Trade E. Santana if you get decent value. Park should be in AAA getting at bats every day for the next month or two.
  19. Since the Twins are out of contention, it's in their best interests to maximize the evaluation of every player vs. wins. In fact since the top two picks in the draft have a significant advantage, there's additional incentive to view wins as secondary. Keep Buxton & Kepler in AAA until late August (there's no rush - they have options left). Play Arcia, Grossman, Santana, and Park as much as possible. Bring up and play Polanco after the ASG. But the Twins are short sighted.
  20. Take BPA with upside no matter what they're asking. At worst case: Next year is loaded with college arms. Twins could really take advantage of #1-1, 1-16, 2-1. 1-1 and 1-2 teams have a significant advantage - millions above 1-3 and 1-4. To be honest, if the Twins were more aggressive like the Astros and Cubs, then the best move would be not to sign their top pick this year.
  21. I don't disagree not doing the 150 mil pitcher which means you need to draft the high potential pitchers to get an ace. Draft the best available player which at 15 this year looks like a prep arm. Don't get scared by Boras or any others.
  22. Take the best available player (most likely a prep pitcher). If he doesn't sign then at least you get a pick the following year. However, you need top of the line pitchers and you need to swing for the fences as much as possible to get them. Or bundle your future money on one pitcher instead of spreading it over Hughes, Nolasco, and E. Sanatana (unlikely to happen with Ryan in charge). The Twins have plenty of #3 and #4 pitchers in their farm system.
