  1. Loved watching him pitch. RIP.
  2. Looks like I heard Mauer correctly. Glad I'm not crazy. I was starting to think I was. Morneau had elbow surgery in the offseason and can't swing a bat until June. Surgery was in late December, so when Mauer said "recently" he meant about one month prior. http://www.startribune.com/former-twins-star-justin-morneau-facing-another-lengthy-rehab/372399211/
  3. I was at the Twins caravan at Treasure Island and another fan asked Mauer about Morneau and I recall him saying that Morneau recently had elbow surgery. So back in January Morneau apparently had elbow surgery, though I didn't see any news of it anywhere online and still don't to this day. Obviously Mauer would know better than almost anyone on the subject, was just weird that it wasn't news somewhere. I just tried to find audio for it, since they air caravan visits over the radio...but it appears that KWNG 106 didn't put a recording of it up online like some other radio stations do (found audio for Mason City and St. Cloud, but no one else).
  4. Patrick Roy is my favorite player ever in all the 4 major sports so my love for Morneau grew the minute he took #33 because I knew there was only one reason a hockey fan/former player takes that number. That reason was obviously Roy. Loved this video because I got to see two of my favorites.
  5. Don't get too caught up in the Korean "gold glove" award. It's not necessarily given to the best defensive player, same thing happens in the US. In Korea, even a DH can win a gold glove. This is from baseball reference: That being said, it seems like reports say that he's not a bad defensive 1B. Better than Mauer? I don't know. We'd have to see Park at 1B to judge that. I don't think Mauer is more than average.
  6. So? Doesn't change the fact that he likes to pitch in TF and has given other reasons besides getting to face the Twins. Could he just be being polite? I guess, but it doesn't seem to be necessary to lie and come up with fake reasons.
  7. It was 268. People in this thread are just rounding. Berardino reported 268 pounds and that number was given to him by Rob Antony/the Twins. He posted many tweets and a blog about it on 12/02...though in the blog he said 265-268 while on twitter he only said 268. I prefer Sano at 3B, but don't want the Twins to give up Plouffe for peanuts so at this point I will take Sano in the OF even if I don't really like it. I don't think he's going to be that great, because of his weight. No, it's not 268 pounds of fat, but it still takes Sano awhile to get going. Once he gets going he's got good speed for a big man. First step quickness in routes is extremely important though and I'm not at all convinced that Sano has that.
  8. Not surprising to me since Price's favorite ballpark to pitch in is Target Field. He has said that for years now. Even said it in a chat: http://espn.go.com/sportsnation/chat?id=45784
  9. Mike Berardino tweeted (a lot) that Sano ended the season at 268 lbs.
  10. Fine, they're results that helped him be a not good player all year except for one month which was aided by BABIP. Either way, he was a not good player last year. His future may turn out okay if he can put up a much better line then he did last year and if he doesn't then he's just an average CF/4th OF. That's all he's proven to be so far. If you're happy with lines like .247/.293/.301 and .222/.291/.370 for huge chunks of the season, that's fine. If Mauer or Dozier, or anyone really, put up lines like that...you would say it was bad...because it is. Improved BB%, K%, and ISO should help him become a better player, but so far it hasn't because those lines are bad. Very, very bad. No one clamors for a guy who gets on base that little for huge chunks of the season. No one clamors for guys who SLG less than .400 (even though lots of people really like Revere). Hicks did those things for nearly the entire season. And I'm honestly not trying to slam that guy. I like Hicks, but he was very frustrating to watch offensively and sometimes even defensively. I'm just saying you can't say he was good last year except for one month and in that month he played out of his mind good. He was average to below average the rest of the year. He can get better and if he keeps going in the right direction he should get better but some guys don't and that's the reality.
  11. They're results that helped him in one month out of three. Not exactly what he or anyone wants. He was still bad in two out of the three months. I like the improvement in those stats, but if Hicks does well in those, but continuously puts up lines like .222/.291/.370 as he did August through October then you're not going to say he's good. Unlucky, sure, but you're definitely not going to say he's good.
  12. I agree it's risky, but I still can't say Hicks turned a corner. The results weren't where they needed to be in order for me to say that. He had one great month. At some point, the results have to be there. There's no way of knowing that he truly turned a corner until we see how he does next year and now we'll be seeing it done in a different ballpark which is more hitter friendly. We can look at BB%, K%, and ISO all day, but if he's just going to continue to be a .245-.250 average guy with a .330 OBP (or less) and a below .400 SLG then the Twins gave up a decent/average CF. Nothing more, nothing less. Valuable, sure, but the Twins really really really need a catcher. I have no clue if this is a good trade or not. No one will for a few years. Murphy looks like an obvious upgrade over Suzuki (not hard to do, I know). It's a big position of need while OF is much less of a need. Right now all I see is that we gave up a average starting CF/4th OF type for a possible starting catcher, which we have none of.
  13. I think when people mention Hicks they should really stop saying how good his "second half" was. He had an INSANE July. That's it. .247/.293/.301 May through June .346/.424/.577 in July alone .222/.291/.370 August through October One of these things is not like the other. I'm not saying he can't figure it out, but one insane month of production doesn't prove he has figured it out. He had one great month. He still can figure it out with the Yankees, but maybe he doesn't. Hicks is still very much an unknown. I, personally, would not feel comfortable saying a guy has turned a corner based on one month when the other 5 months say otherwise...especially 2+ months of bad after his supposed "corner turn."
  14. I'm hoping this means that one of Pelfrey or Milone is traded ASAP. That's the only way this makes sense in my mind, to keep their value up.
  15. Which I wish we knew the answer to. I'm completely for your rotation listed, I posted something similar in another thread a few days ago. It's just the Nolasco part that may keep it from happening, which it shouldn't but the Twins often play guys based on contract. I'd assume he won't be able to be traded this year, that foot issue seems like it's not going to fix without surgery. What will be left on his contract is 2/24 plus an option year. Hopefully that will make him easier to trade. I'd take anything in return for him.
  16. And Nolasco goes where? BP? I'm for him being gone completely, but right now I can't see any team taking him.
  17. For me, he's the next Brian Duensing. I expect him to be a better version though.
  18. For me, it's between Milone and Pelfrey. I don't believe either has a future on this team. If they are going to keep whoever loses the rotation spot on the 25 man then it should be Pelfrey because Milone in the BP sounds scary...and not in a good way. At least two of Pelfrey, Milone and Nolasco need to be traded within the next year. Pelfrey this year, being that he's a FA and I don't want him to be re-signed. Nolasco obviously can't be traded yet, but it needs to be done as soon as it can be. You're not going to get anything good, but salary relief would be nice even though payroll isn't an issue. At some point next year, ASAP, I want the rotation to be: Hughes, Santana, May, Gibson, Meyer/Berrios/Duffy
  19. Pretty much what everyone else has said. Ramos for Capps was bad the minute it happened. There aren't many trades where 100% of fans agree that it was either good or bad. This one everyone agreed it was bad. Span for Meyer, I liked it, but figured that it could hurt us. Losing Revere was a lot easier, even if May or Worley both wouldn't have worked out. It's a good thing that May has. Right now, I'd definitely want to undo the Span/Meyer trade, but I still loved the attempt. Hopefully Meyer turns it around. I still have faith in him.
  20. Well, technically Morneau since he's not a Twin anymore... I assume we are talking active players so the ones who haven't been Twins players: it is between Trout and Tulowitzki.
  21. Tate or Fulmer. Can't decide between the two, but I believe one or both will be available at the time.
  22. Turns out it was #3: a jammed index finger. https://twitter.com/MikeBerardino/status/604437239515389953
  23. I'm enjoying the winning, as others have said. That being said though, I think the Twins were only 4 games or so below .500 in late June last year (June 25th or so). So, I'll keep enjoying the winning while it's happening, but I'm not going to start taking it seriously until they are around .500 after 105-115 games. At least that will be improvement, contenders or not.
