  1. Right. Falvey and Levine shouldn't be judge for things that Ryan or Smith did. They should be judge for what they do. We have no idea how good or bad they are at trading. They haven't made one yet.
  2. Torn right labrum in 2015. http://www.startribune.com/twins-day-at-camp-dozier-believes-his-hip-problems-are-past/370211861/
  3. Age 25. Born and raised in St Paul. Been a Twins fan for as long as I can remember. Best Twins memories: Game 163 vs Tigers Meeting Torii in 2015 after about 10 years of trying Santana's 17 K's in 2007 Baker's near perfect game in 2007 Thome walkoff HR vs the White Sox in 2010 Favorite players: Torii Hunter Justin Morneau Doug Mientkiewicz Johan Santana Have been reading Twins Daily since the beginning. Had been reading some of the posters work prior to this site. I check this website at least once a week. Sometimes I check it daily or several times a day, it depends on what's happening with the team. Dozier trade rumors have definitely made it daily this offseason.
  4. i don't think we should be calling a player a "six WAR player" when they've only done six WAR for one season. It makes a lot more sense to call him a 4-5 WAR player as that's usually what he is around. I doubt anyone is thinking he's a 6 WAR player every year for the next two years. If it happens, it happens....but it hasn't happened consistently and no one should be counting on it happening again.
  5. speaking for myself, I don't want Dozier to re-sign so for our team I don't think money is the issue. It's Dozier's age and the fact that we have almost no pitching. I think other fans who want Dozier traded feel the same, but I can't say for sure.
  6. the 2nd rounder isn't protected, but we didn't lose it because Castro didn't receive and reject a qualifying offer (would have been insane for him to get one and also insane for him to turn it down).
  7. You also have to take in the fact that Chris Davis didn't strike out as much in the minors. Most players increase their strikeout rate when coming up, not maintain it or lower it. People are thinking if he K's that much in the minors, he's going to be at 40 something percent in MLB. Davis was K'ing about 23% in AA and 25% in AAA. Now he K's in the low 30s in MLB. Walker takes that same bump and he's definitely in the 40% area. Adam Dunn never struck out that much in his career. And only two qualified guys had upper 30s in the last 10 years: Mark Reynolds and Chris Carter (both once). I agree with him playing first base though and I would have preferred to keep him over others.
  8. I don't think he likes it here enough to just say "nah, I don't want that extra 20-30 million that I deserve." And I don't believe he has kids, but wants some eventually. Think he said that in a recent interview. He could re-sign for lower than expected but I don't think it would be that low. Maybe 15-16 per is the lowest I could imagine him going.
  9. Yeah, 10-12 is a laughable amount. He'll get 9 in 2018. If he keeps hitting this way, he's definitely getting the amount you put. Dozier already is on his discount contract. His next contract will be his last time to really cash in.
  10. True, but Ervin Santana was the only starter to post a below 5 ERA this year. He had the same defense behind him that the others did. Most of the players FIP's were not great. Can't win many ball games with only 1-2 good pitchers and we saw that on a daily basis.
  11. Right, it's not like pitching is the only problem...but it for sure is the biggest problem (and biggest by far, in my eyes) and it has been for five out of the last six years. We've already seen what can happen when the pitching improves above bottom five in the league, 2015 is an example of that.
  12. Usually proven players aren't traded for proven players. It's not like the Twins can trade Dozier for Archer. Most trades are proven player for prospects or prospects for proven players. Not every trade is like that, but that's how the majority of them go. I don't think anyone is saying it's a guarantee that if the Twins trade Dozier that they'll automatically be better in the pitching department, but it certainly doesn't hurt to try. Keeping Dozier only means the pitching still isn't improved, unless it magically improves like it did in 2015. The other five years, the Twins pitching has been absolutely awful. The team won't get better until the pitching improves, they could have four Dozier's on the team, but if they don't have pitching it doesn't matter. To me the options are the following: Keep Dozier and have a good player and hope the pitching just magically improves like it did in 2015...but that it does it for more than one year (FYI, the improvement in the staff has happened once in the last six years and only lasted for one year). They tried mediocre free agents and that backfired. Hopefully long team deals for mediocre players stops.Keep Dozier, nothing improves. Twins are a bottom five team again, but hey, at least they have Dozier so they aren't completely unwatchable aka the 2016 Twins.Trade Dozier, the trade bombs for us. We don't improve at all and now we've lost Dozier.Trade Dozier, get 1-2 guys who help now and/or in the future (hopefully more guys than that, but being realistic). Twins rotation improves a lot faster than it would if they do absolutely nothing.I lean towards trade and I lean there heavily, especially since I don't think Dozier is here after two years and the team is very likely to suck next year if they don't improve the pitching. So that really leaves Dozier on more of a one year deal than a two year deal. I don't think they're going to give a 32 year old a contract like 4/72 or 5/90, which if he keeps hitting like he has the last three years, is what he is going to get unless he takes a discount. And he is already on a discounted contract for what his production has been so I would think that would be unlikely. Sure, trading Dozier could lead to the Twins having nothing to show for it...but not trading Dozier almost guarantees that the Twins go nowhere for the next two years because he and Santana are their only trade chips unless you trade some of the young core...which a rebuilding team should not be doing. To me it makes perfect sense, not to just give Dozier away for anything, but to do it for what is deemed the right package...while knowing that even the right package may backfire on you.
  13. Yeah, that would be my only guess too if they're moving Walker to 1B or acquiring Dozier and putting him there. Still have a hard time seeing either happening though.
  14. the Mets have Walker, why would they want Dozier? Unless they're moving one to a different position. I don't know their other holes.
  15. When I've seen dodgers fans talk about him they say RF until A-Gon is gone. So RF here and move Kepler to LF, which is where he prefers to play.
  16. think it was a PTBNL or cash and I think most of the reports said they believe it will be cash.
  17. He re-upped with the Indians. Sounded like Falvey will be bringing no one from the Indians according to reports made a few weeks ago (there may have been an article, but I do remember tweets). And it sounded like Levine also had a verbal agreement to not take anyone from TX.
  18. I feel like someone asked a reporter about this in a tweet, but now I can't find the tweet. My gut says he'd have to be on the 40 man again and then waived again to get off the 40 man and hope to not be claimed. O's have already claimed him and put him on the 40 man...for now.
  19. Butch Davis, but yes, those are the only known guys that have been removed by Falvey/Levine. There may have been more and they just haven't leaked, but I'm guessing that's not the case. And I do believe that they plan on adding vs subtracting (your last paragraph). I think they've said that in few different interviews. That might change, but I'm guessing they don't know a ton about a lot of these guys so I'm assuming the plan is to see who's willing to get on board with their plan and who is also good at executing it. They can then cut the people who don't work out. Also it sounded like both the Rangers and Indians did not want to let either guy take anyone from their previous organization. I know Levine had that agreement to not take anyone and it was thought that Falvey would take one guy, but instead that one guy re-upped with the Indians.
  20. There are many articles out there, most of them about winning the MVP, saying that his work ethic was poor and he admitted that. His focus wasn't on the field. He was a known party boy and tried to get Mauer to do it too, which obviously did not work. I don't agree with Hunter swinging at Morneau, but it's well known that many people, including his manager, believed that Morneau wasn't as focused on his job as he should have been. Morneau said a benching and a talk with Gardy is what turned it all around that year. He started to take his job more seriously...do early BP etc.
  21. Sounds like they are going to be around a lot more than that. Yes, a lot of minor league development things...but the below sounds way more involved than assistants of the past. But I could be wrong and underestimating previous SA duties. For Cuddyer, duties "include, but not are limited to, helping position player development by focusing on transition programs and teaching an understanding of major league expectations, environment, and culture. He will also be involved in the amateur draft process and throughout the year as a resource for player acquisitions." Hunter: "emphasizing heavy focus on organizational culture and major league environment, and spending time with the major league team and baseball operations decision making staff. He will also be involved with the amateur draft process, scouting, minor leagues and trade deadline preparation." Hawkins: "contributing to the development of our organizational pitching philosophies used in the selection and development of all players. Additionally, he will contribute to the amateur scouting process and trade deadline preparation meetings." And all three: "be responsible for serving as a resource for players and coaches in the mental and fundamental aspects of the game. In their role as Special Assistants, Cuddyer, Hunter and Hawkins will participate in Spring Training, instructional programs, and visit all minor league affiliates throughout the season. They will work alongside the Baseball Operations staff and uniform personnel to ensure development in player understanding of culture, talent evaluation and organizational vision. In addition, all three will play a part in supporting the Twins community efforts, being involved in charities and community work throughout Twins Territory." The above is all via LEN III Twins insider blog and the release that Seth posted.
  22. I hope whoever wrote this article has a position in the Dodgers front office.
  23. Baseball America always creates a list prior to the draft. Not sure if they have already or not.
  24. Don't think Urias is coming here unless they get Sano and even then I'm not exactly sure the Dodgers do that. Urias is a guy you trade when you get Chris Sale in return, not a 30 year old 2B. Sure, he's a top 5 MLB 2B, but he's still a 2B.
  25. Media also keeps suggesting that they are waiting to announce because of the Ryder Cup and Monday Vikings game. Saying the big news would get buried below those two in importance. I'm not a golf fan at all but that doesn't surprise me as the Ryder Cup seems to be all everyone is talking about. Would assume that would have continued even if the Twins had announced it. Sounds like announcement will come sometime next week.
