Twins tried to extend Rosario, Kepler, Berrios and maybe Buxton
Twins33 replied to gunnarthor's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
Here are the young players who extended and gave up some FA years. Some of these players may have been 25 when signed, but I think most were under. Ignoring the "comps" part of the question and a few of them may be 2016. Kolten Wong: 5/25.5 bought out 2 FA years (one as an option year) Gregory Polanco 5/35 but could reach 7/60 with performance (would be 1 FA year) Odubel Herrera 5/30.5 and 2 club options (would be 3 FA years) Jose Ramirez 4/26 which could turn into 6/50 (1-3 FA years) Rougned Odor 6/49.5 plus option (2-3 FA years) Paul DeJong 6/26 (2 FA years) Scott Kingery (made his MLB debut this year) just got 6/24 (if options used: 3 FA years) Ketel Marte 5/24 which could become 7/46 (I think 2 FA years if options used) Eugenio Suarez was 26 but he just got 7/66 and I think the Reds get 4-5 FA years Wil Myers was 26 but he got 6/83 plus option year (3 FA years that can turn into 4) Carlos Martinez was 25 and got 5/51 with options. Gives them 2 FA years. Largest deal ever for an arb1 pitcher. That might be all. So seems pretty common to give up approximately 2 FA years. -

Hes wrong a lot. Like a whole freaking lot. He misreported a Darvish offer this offseason as well. I don't mind the guy personally, but definitely is wrong a lot. Obviously just because something doesn't happen, doesn't mean he made it up. That's not what I'm saying, but he reminds me of people who throw out FA names and trades like he's a blogger and is just hoping something sticks. -

Here's what Wolfson said about the offers. It's Wolfson, so grain of salt as always but.. He also called them "extremely team friendly" in another tweet to someone. -

Gordon, Gonsalves starting in AA. Romero to AAA
Twins33 replied to Vanimal46's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
"The reason? In large part, their spring performances. Romero was unhittable during his time in Twins camp — he literally didn’t allow a hit in eight Grapefruit League innings — and kept that momentum after being optioned. So the Twins have decided to give the 23-year-old righthander, rated as the Twins’ second-best prospect by mlb.com, a challenge by stepping up to the highest minor league level. Gonsalves wasn’t as sharp and his velocity was down slightly this spring. The reason: He’s making some adjustments in his mechanics that the Twins believe will pay off as he rises in the system. While the 23-year-old lefthander, rated as the team’s third-best prospect, masters the changes, they’re putting him in a comfortable environment — the franchise where he went 8-3 with a 2.68 ERA last year." http://www.startribune.com/ehire-adrianza-brings-more-power-to-the-plate-for-the-twins/478475293/ -
Twins 2018 Position Analysis: Relief Pitcher
Twins33 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
oddly enough, I don't expect him to give up many. He's only given up 62 in 800 some innings. Five-ish HR per 162 games seems low to me but I have nothing to back that up. I worry more about the walking a hits/walks parade tightrope every appearance.- 37 replies

Ryan LaMarre Just Might Make Twins Opening Day Roster
Twins33 replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Happy for the dude. Hopefully Rowson works his magic on him. His swing does look better in that clip. Now he just needs to put it to use when he's called upon. Didn't really matter if it was him or Granite as neither will play much if the three regulars are all healthy, which is what we want to happen. -

Ryan LaMarre Just Might Make Twins Opening Day Roster
Twins33 replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
im not saying he can hit like that for a full season. Maybe he can, maybe he can't. I really don't know. The thing is, he did hit league average for 100 and whatever ABs. He did what he needed to do when called upon. That's fact. Again, all I expect out of a SS, no matter how many AB's it is, is league average offense for their position and good defense. And he provided that with the slash line. Anything more is icing on top. -

He hit near league average for a SS last year. How high are your expectations? Because that's all I hope for out of a SS. Good defense and somewhere near league average stats. That doesn't mean I don't want a SS who could hit like Trout, but it's about being realistic. I don't think league average for a SS is poor. -

Im not hanging on to Lamarre spring training stats. And I'm not saying that's the reason why he should be called up. I was aware of his BABIP. I still wouldn't care if it's Granite or Lamarre because they're both not going to be contributing much. The Twins season is not going to be made or broken because of Granite or Lamarre. I just don't get that people are so completely against him being up. That's how I infer their position, at least. All I know is that I'm glad they gave Grossman a shot when everyone was against it, including me. No matter what his minor league stats said, his major league stats prior to the Twins were "meh". While he's not amazing, he's certainly way better than I expected. I'm glad they gave Adrianza a shot, which is one I was actually hoping they'd give a shot to and he delivered. There are some who still don't want him on this team after what he did last season, which I don't get. I'd be perfectly fine if Lamarre was in the minors. I'd be perfectly fine if Lamarre was in the majors. Like I said, I'd love to see what Rowson could do with him. Maybe nothing changes, but we'll never know if he never gets a shot. -

Twins33 replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
But what you're implying is that Lamarre can't make any changes to be better. That it's absolutely impossible. That's how it comes off at least. Adrianza was a very poor hitter prior to last year. He made swing changes and was able to hit near league average for a SS. People still don't want him on this team, though he seems to have turned a corner. Why is it impossible for Lamarre to improve? I'm not saying it's guaranteed he will improve but why is it impossible? You may be right. That the guy he was before is the guy he will always be, but you could also be wrong because he could change. Like Adrianza did. Like LoMo did. LoMo and Adrianza were given the MLB at bats. Why is Lamarre not allowed to get the same chance? -

Twins33 replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Yes, those are the stats, but how do we know with 100% certainty that's the real Lamarre? He changed his swing all the time in the minors. All the time. He said it himself. Can you really get consistent results if you're always changing something as important as your swing? The guy would be sitting on the bench all but 1-2 games a week so I don't get why it's a big deal at all. If we're so fixated on past results, why aren't we slamming the LoMo signing as a fluke? A signing which I, and I'm sure you, love or at least like. Sample sizes are different, but results very similar. 2014-2016 Logan Morrison .240/.311/.403 ISO .163 wRC+ 99 2014-2016 Kennys Vargas .251/.309/.434 ISO .183 wRC+ 101 Most people like the Morrison signing and want Vargas gone. Why aren't we discussing how bad it is to have LoMo? Because he's probably a different guy now. He's made changes. Lamarre may have too. I wouldn't mind seeing what Rowson could do with him. But again, I don't really care if it's Lamarre or Granite. Both are just bench guys. Neither will likely have a better season than any of our top three OF. Shouldn't matter which ones butt is warming the bench. -

Twins33 replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Let me preface this by saying I don't really care who the 4th OF is because unless there's an injury their biggest job is to keep the bench warm. I lean Granite, but I'd be fine if it were Lamarre. As others have mentioned, Grossman was thought of the same way Lamarre is right now and he's had two good seasons with the bat now. Did any of us expect a combined 115 wRC+ out of Grossman? Think that's an easy no. I wouldn't have even expected the 100 he put up last year, even though he was close one year with the Astros with less power and fewer walks. Maybe Lamarre can do the same, but with better defense? We type posts about wanting to find the next Kluber. Why can't we want/find that for hitters too? There's never a guarantee that you'll get one but doesn't hurt to try. Some of these surprise guys have needed just one tweak and it's elevated them like someone else mentioned. Lamarre probably needs more than one, but you just never know. It's hard to go by past results with Lamarre because he said he was always changing his swing to be like other players. You can't have sustained results if you're messing with your swing as much as he says he was. Lamarre may be something. He may be nothing. Rowson has done a good job with our hitters so far. Maybe he can with him too. Rosario, Buxton and Kepler are always going to get the majority of the AB's so to me it really doesn't matter who's keeping the bench warm. If it's Lamarre, great. If not, great. -
Look Who’s Back: Twins Claim Vargas
Twins33 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Don't think that was the point of the poster. They needed a 40 man spot to add Cave. They decided to get rid of Vargas to gain that 40 man spot. If they had found out about Polanco earlier, Cave could have taking Polanco's 40 man spot and no one would have been waived in the first place, at least at that exact moment. They may still end up waiving him again, but the decision to waive him would have been delayed until now or whenever they decide to get rid of him again.- 48 replies

I'd definitely lean Granite, but Lamarre is a RH bat who can play all three OF spots. So the handedness gives him a leg up in that regard. With Lamarre it's hard to tell his true talent because he said he would change his swing constantly. He's not doing that anymore supposedly. Would it really matter if it's him or Granite? 40 man spot open. RH bat, which is needed. The only real worry is Rosario's arm. Otherwise it probably doesn't make a difference which one is keeping the bench warm, Lamarre or Granite.
-
Wouldnt be hard to do as there's an open 40 man spot due to Polanco's suspension.
-
Pretty sure there's no rule against that. I think something like that happened in the last few years but don't remember who it was. My mind may be making it up. Maybe it was Rosales I was thinking of, like spycake mentioned. Just saw his post.

I think it really depends heavily on the owner. I know a family who's only had German Shepherds and they are as good as can be. Not crazy high energy or anything, even when they were young. Then I know another family who has a chocolate lab who is absolutely nuts to this day and is at least five years old.

i don't think it'll happen either, but they needed/wanted that spot for Cave. Now they have an open spot again because of Polanco. So it could happen, but unlikely. There is a set salary for guys on the 40 man. Not sure how accurate this site is, but I know there are multiple benefits and I know some of those like the benefits and marijuana testing are true so the rest probably are as well: http://athletewealth.com/mlb40man/ Amounts may be higher now since that was 2015 and it's 2018 now.

He threw live BP at the FA camp, even pitched against LoMo per a picture floating around twitter. I heard or read somewhere that he got up to 50 pitches before he signed. Not surprising he won't start the first series but also not surprising that he'll be good to go for the second. That's what I'd expect.

Ehire Of Hope: Can Adrianza Seize A Prime Opportunity?
Twins33 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I'm fine with either guy. I'm hoping the bat we saw last year out of Adrianza is something he can continue. He made swing/mechanic changes. He put up a line close to major league avg for a SS last year, granted in a small sample size of less than 200 PA. If he does the same and plays good defense, that's really all you can ask for. We'll always want more, but that type of line is good enough and it's not like the offense is counting on him as much as they are Dozier or Sano.
