  1. Under Bill Smith, they definitely would have kept him around. This year, I think he's established some trade value, and there are enough teams trying to make a push for the playoffs that need some bullpen help. Someone will trade for him. I'm not sure how much we'll get, but he will probably be gone this year. If not by the end of July, he will be by the end of August before the waiver trade deadline.
  2. I think some people are missing an obvious solution as well. Say you trade Span and get some pitching. Good, we need pitching. You move Revere to CF and you can put Parmelee at RF. It's not a bad option. Parmelee gets his ML at bats and plays a position he's familiar with. Later, if they trade Morneau, you move Parmelee to 1B and bring up someone like Hicks or Aracia. If Span is not traded... Good, we have Span, who is good at CF and being a lead off hitter.
  3. Agreed. But I don't think Gardy is going to be gone next year. I wouldn't be surprised if after the 2013 season when Gardy's contract is up, he "decides to" retire. So, not officially fired and didn't officially quit. That's just how I see things playing out.
  4. The additional pick from the other team would add to the bonus pool. How much money a team receives for it's bonus pool is determined by adding up all the recommended bonuses for the first ten rounds for the draft picks that the team has. The total is the bonus pool. That total isn't added up until all drafting positions have been determined. The section dealing with draft compensation for players receiving a qualifying offer occurs before the new draft rule parts in the agreement, so it would be safe to assume that additional picks received from free agent compensation would be added to the bonus pool. Here's a link to the changes: http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/downloads/2011_CBA.pdf And here's a link to the full CBA (keep in mind that it is 300 pages long): http://mlb.mlb.com/pa/pdf/cba_english.pdf
  5. When I read the title, I expected to read some tweets from Danny or quotes from him directly. That isn't the case at all. Danny (through Perez) didn't say anything that was inflammatory towards the team or their decision to move him to AAA. The article title is somewhat misleading (and I admit, the title of the thread is probably not helping either). I thought the fact that Chris Perez didn't know Plouffe's name was pretty amusing. But, it also shouldn't be a big surprise if you've read any other quotes from Chris Perez.
  6. According to this article (an Interview with Chris Perez), Danny Valencia isn't happy in the minors. He doesn't go as far as to say that he should be in the majors though. http://www.twincities.com/twins/ci_21038078/minnesota-twins-danny-valencia-not-happy-minors-friend?source=rss Enjoy!
  7. It sounds like Appel is looking for cash, and Gausman wants to leave his mark on his college. I guess I can't blame Gausman for that part. You forgot to mention that even with the 6th worst record, the Twins would be picking 7th in draft as Baltimore would get a compensation pick immediately after the pick they lost (I assume that is still the case in the top 10 picks, but they are protected, so I'm not really sure how that works). Next year's draft class is supposed to be much deeper, so even if the Twins don't end up with either of these guys, they very well could end up with someone of a similar caliber. But who knows, they could both go back to college and wear down their arms so much that they end up being useless.
  8. That is great news! Go Gibson!!!
  9. Is Casilla worth around the $2MM that he would probably get through arbitration next year though. That is the question. I'm not saying Carroll is going to be worth the money he will be making either. Florimon is an interesting person to throw in the mix, but the question is where do you put him? He has been playing a SS exclusively this season (execpt for one appearance as a pitcher). Would you move Dozier to 2B and have Florimon play SS, or would you put him at a position that he has only played 2 times in his professional career?
  10. Florimon is headed to Buffalo, NY to represent the Red Wings in the 2012 AAA All-Star game! Why is he going? Take a look for yourself: Batting .25/.320/.362 with 11 2B, 2 3B and 3 HR Fielding: .973 Fld% and a RF/G if 4.24 Fun Fact: Florimon apparently stepped in to pitch for a game some time in the last week. There are defensive stats listed for him, but no pitching stats. I will try to dig deeper into to this one to find out what exactly took place.
  11. It also lists Rosario as an OF. So, not quite accurate. I think he can officially change his position to 2B.
  12. That's a pretty daring statement for a MN sports website. Prepare to have angry comments directed towards your last statement.
  13. This according to BA: The Twins have agreed to sign Lewis Thorpe, a lefthander from Australia. Several teams considered Thorpe, 16, the top prospect in Australia for July 2. Thorpe pitched in the 16-and-under World Championship in Mexico last August and in the MLB Australian Academy last year, when he had a 3.90 ERA in 30 innings with 37 strikeouts and 15 walks. He's 6 feet, 175 pounds with good feel for pitching, a fastball that sits 86-88 mph and has topped out at 91 along with feel to spin a breaking ball. http://www.baseballamerica.com/blog/prospects/2012/07/twins-agree-to-sign-australian-lefthander-lewis-thorpe/
  14. I don't know about Panama, but the Twins do have an academy in the DR. They have been increasing their presence there for a few years now. Puerto Rico is more difficult as those players enter the draft, and are more difficult to hold on to after you develop them, but I'm sure the Twins are there as well.
  15. That's funny. They do line up nicely, except that Parmelee sort of knows how to take a walk, at least compared to Valencia.
  16. Don't forget the modestly price domestic beer as well.
  17. I'm going to question this as well... Who do you think will get the draft picks? Under the new CBA, a team cannot receive a compensation draft pick for make a qualifying offer (that is rejected) to a player that they traded for mid-season. Under the old rules, the Twins could have traded for him and offered arbitration. If that was declined, and he signed elsewhere, they would have got the draft picks. Those days are now gone though.
  18. I agreed with this whole post except for one little detail. Your option 3 would actually be buying for 2013 if he signed, or 20XX with the draft picks (depending on the pick). If you think of selling now as buying for the future, it doesn't sound so bad. So, as everyone has pointed out already, there is no way the Twins should try and trade to be better this season. As well as the Twins have been playing recently, they haven't reduced how many games they are behind in the division. I say build for next year with whatever trade chips you have, but keep some of the big pieces (Like Span, Willingham, even Morneau) unless you are blown away from an offer. I have a feeling that TR has very similar feelings on this issue.

  20. Florimonster has been names to the International League All-Star Game! Here is the official release: http://www.milb.com/documents/2012/06/27/34015336/1/AllStar2012Florimon.pdf
  21. Revere is going to be the happiest person in the world when he finally gets that (inside the park) HR. I think that will happen before he even gets close to the record.
  22. I don't wish anyone to get hurt... but it is pretty likely with Youks track record this year.
  23. Agreed. It was fantastic. Congrats Parker.
  24. Seattle tried that for a year and it clearly didn't go that well because it only lasted one year. There's no guarantee that Molitor would be interested in the job anyway.
  25. It sounds like fun to me. I can't promise I'll be any good at it, but I'd try.
