  1. It was ickish before he said a word.
  2. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article/mlb/mlb-twins-and-peanuts-worldwide-unveil-all-star-game-statues?ymd=20140528&content_id=77180174&vkey=news_mlb I was going to say mine is better than Hosken Bombo Disco's, but then he switched his avatar from Lucy to Snoopy. It's hard to top Woodstock and the supper dish as add-ons.
  3. Post #4 made it worth it
  4. They had to have been betting on at least 4. That contract is too big to just eat more than half of it and not be seriously hurt by it.
  5. Kinsler is owed $57M for 2014-2017 plus $12M in2018 or a $5M buyout (Total: $62M for 4 yrs or $69M for 5 yrs.) It's a reasonable contract for the tail end of the career for a very good player who is in good shape. The Rangers owe Fielder $24M per year for 2014-2015 and 18M per year for 2016-2020. (Detroit is picking up the other 6M/yr for the last 5 years.) That's $138M over 7 yrs owed by Texas to a guy who makes David Ortiz look svelte. Kinsler has also been the better player: Kinsler's WAR the past 5 years - 6.0, 4.0, 7.1, 2.4, 4.5 (Age 27-31) Fielder's WAR the past 5 years - 6.3, 1.5, 4.6, 4.7, 2.0 (Age 25-29) Kinsler is two years older, but I'd say the body type makes him less of a risk. Fielder was so-so last year - was that an aberration or the start of real decline (or, in hindsight, was that neck bothering him some already?)
  6. I hated the trade at the time and hate it more now. I don't really care about the Rangers, but I would rather have Detroit feel the pain. Cheap tix in Arlington on Stub Hub will be nice, though.
  7. Wasn't there a discussion about tempting fate last night?
  8. K/BB was (and may still be - I'm not sure if some advanced metrics have passed it) the best predictor of future success for a pitcher. Also, there is a point where K/9 indicates that success is unsustainable (and I think K% is actually a better measure.) There has been a lot of research done in this area since the original Bill James Baseball Abstract annuals, and while I haven't kept up with the details, everything I have seen has confirmed these ideas. For today's game (and yesterday's game), an out is an out (for the most part.) If you want to predict what will happen in tomorrow's game, then the K is king.
  9. I would take anything they offered just to see him pitch for the Yankees in the new stadium. How many fly ball outs in last night's game would have been HRs there? I counted at least three. Phil Hughes had an ERA over 5 there; I'd set the over/under for Correia at 5.50 at the minimum.
  10. Can we rename it the Mendoza-Hicks line? That kind of has a ring to it.
  11. Is it safe now to assume the Gilbert family has compromising photos of David Stern and Adam Silver?
  12. Two votes now say you are
  13. While you're at it, put something in there about stupid challenges with 0% chance of success.
  14. I was trying to think of a reply that wouldn't get me banned, but I couldn't come up with anything.
  15. They still make those?
  16. Better tell your avatar that.
  17. Isn't your alligator thingy facing the wrong way? (Just kidding. I actually like pro basketball.)
  18. Back in the day my Iron Maiden shirts always seemed to get "lost" in he laundry. I'm sure my mother kept throwing them out - I have no idea what she had against them. (If any of my kids had them, they wouldn't get "lost". They would be confiscated and cut up in full view of the owner.)
  19. Down to 0.00 for Rochester?
  20. Should've been in the rotation with Spahn and Sain.
  21. I did my position/persuasive paper in English 101(about 25 years ago) on why we should keep the DH. The feeble attempts to hit or bunt by the pitchers were reason #1. If I wanted to watch that, I'd save the ticket price and go to a jr. high game instead.
  22. I always thought his personality played vey well with the media. Did I miss something?
  23. I don't think tired is the problem. It's the sore elbows from the 12-oz. curls.
  24. I thought Hendriks signed with the Jays - when did your daughter's softball team trade for him?
