  1. We still have September call-ups to come - can we get to 50? I think great pitchers get more calls because they hit their spots and the catcher can actually frame it instead of stabbing at it. I've seen a lot of pitches hit the zone but called balls because the catcher was set up on the other corner.
  2. Minor league attendance tends to fluctuate a lot based on day of the week and special promotions. I'm curious how much of that was Tebow, how much was Friday night (with many people taking Monday off to start a 4-day week-end), and how much was "Fireworks Friday" (with the 4th just around the corner). The team site didn't miss the chance to play up the appearance:

  4. I saw the two they one, although for 1987 I followed it in the Stars & Stripes newspaper and had to wait for family to send me the video tapes to watch the games. I didn't see the 1965 series - we were in the process of moving at the time. Plus, I was 10 months old. They lost, so I got caught up on the experience by watching he Vikings in a few Super Bowls.
  5. Maybe it was the camera angle, but that Sano HR didn't look like much coming off the bat, but he's so strong it just carries. It didn't look anything like the Vargas shot yesterday, but it wasn't that much shorter. If he ever really get ahold of one...
  6. It's not quite "Spahn and Sain and pray for rain." If Santana keeps this up, the rotation might just be Berrios and Mylanta.
  7. Yeah, my first thought when I saw he had that was "they have this doctor hanging around with only one patient and decided to try to get their money's worth out of him."
  8. I don't think they ever clocked any Jim Hoey pitches because they were never within range of the gun.
  9. And then get DFA'd the day after that (after pitching about 3 innings and giving up 7 runs.)
  10. I think Legion ball play by NFHS rules, and aggressive, intentional contact is normally rules malicious contact, an automatic ejection. If you lower your shoulder and run into a catcher or other fielder, it's an easy call.
  11. He might want to ask politely, because a response is pretty easy to come by: Year ERA G GS IP H R ER BB SO ERA+ FIP WHIP 2016 6.43 26 26 133 167 103 95 32 114 66 4.73 1.496
  12. For the record here, yes, I would have preferred Greene. I thought he could have been elite at either position, while with McKay I was skeptic at both positions.
  13. I thought it was more likely he would be mediocre at everything but wasn't likely to be truly special at any one thing even if he focused on the one thing. I really didn't want a 1B at 1-1 unless he was a once in a generation sure-thing hitting talent.
  14. Me too, which means he's probably headed for Cooperstown.
  15. I think you're overstating the probabilities, and as soon as he focuses on one, the other drops by at least half.
  16. Did they? I think the jury is still out.
  17. Get Metalica to record Enter the Sanoman
  18. If your fetish is winning championships, you're stuck with the Lynx.
  19. I could do waffles too. Just nothing that could be construed as health food. (No whole wheat flour or wheat germ in the waffles.)
  20. Thanks for the explanation - it was far more than was due. I guess I'll have to stay up a few minutes later to gripe about the chief's chicken.
  21. Blasphemy! I would like to se the game threads stay unlocked longer for west coast games. I went to bed before I refreshed and saw the chicken photo Chief posted, which was grilled chicken and vaguely healthy looking. (It looked pretty good, but still grilled and healthy) You'd think we had lost and there is a 6:00 a.m. practice scheduled as a result. Tonight we want fried chicken. Nothing healthy, just a mountain of battered, deep fried, extra-crispy dead chicken flesh. That's if our bullpen will allow it, of course.
