  1. Or, it's just really a sad statement that the Twins are the better watch of the day.
  2. heh ... it's too cold out. Baseball is only fun when it's actually summer weather.
  3. Decided not to go. I just have no motivation to sit there and watch ... just what I'd end up seeing, who knows. Just can't do it. I might even tune into the Vikings game periodically, which says a lot.
  4. Yeah, why I decided I'm just not going to the game today. Rather, I have absolutely no motivation to go. Sad, and I'm 15 minutes away. I just can't do it.
  5. Game-time forecast: Sunny. Winds blowing from right to left field at 5-10 m.p.h. Temperature around 60. TWINS: SP, May Santana SS Suzuki C Mauer 1B Plouffe 3B Arcia RF Pinto DH Hermann LF Escobar 2B Schafer CF PALE HOSE: SP, Noesi Eaton CF Ramirez SS Abreu 1B Gillaspie 3B Garcia RF Wilkins DH Viciedo LF Sanchez 2B Nieto C ---------------------------- Okay, Brian ... sigh ... I think I'm going to be a glutton for punishment and go to the game. Maybe. Sigh. Post a good one. ---------------------------- Sigh... I don't think I have a good one in me. Things to think about: 1. The Vikings -- It's Sunday and the Vikings are 1-0... The Twins just lost a doubleheader to the White Sox and the Twins are not going to be in the playoffs once again. I would be completely dishonest if I didn't say that the Vikings are thought #1 today. Go Vikes!!! Checking out the Vikings Journal for a fresh new Vikings Forum. 2. AP -- Everything that is going on with AP is my fault. I'm sorry but losing AP for a spell was all but guaranteed... Here's why. I drafted AP in my fantasy football league... That's why. I hate Fantasy Football but I play it every year and every year I've never been in draft position to draft AP and I've always wanted him. So... When I found out that I had the 1st pick overall... AP was ranked 4th overall but I didn't care... I wanted AP so I could cheer for my Vikings and fantasy team at the same time and he wouldn't be around for my 2nd choice so I drafted him and I told everyone that I just guaranteed that AP won't be around for a good chunk of the year. Oh Yeah... I also drafted Ray Rice so I'm doing well. On AP's recent troubles with the law... I'm not making light of it... I'm making light of my fantasy luck. When it comes to the AP situation. I don't know all the details and I will not make any judgments. That's the way that I look at things and I know that many others do not look at things like I do. AP is going to be vilified for quite some time if not forever. 3. The Twins -- Oh Yeah... This is a Baseball Game Thread... I admit that I am still interested in the Twins but from a development standpoint only. I think the offense and defense is coming along and I don't have any suggestions. I think the pitching is not coming along and I don't have any suggestions either. When I don't have any suggestions on development... It makes it hard to watch the Twins for Development. I don't like the Free Agent Class for 2015 at all and I don't want to trade youth for anything. I think we will have to ride this out for awhile. 4. Strikeouts -- The Twins strikeout way too much... It was really bad last year... It's hasn't been as bad this year but after games like yesterday... It's still bad enough. Put the ball in play boys... Put the ball in play!!! Along with pitching... Simple Contact at the plate would be a priority going forward. 5. Amazing -- My son had a cookie yesterday and I heard him say... "This Cookie is Amazing". This got me to thinking... What happens if my Son takes a bite of a cookie and says... "This is Cookie is Amazing"... and immediately afterwards... A Dog walks in the door... Looks at him and in clear spoken english... the Dog Says to him... "Really... You find a cookie amazing... Do you mind if I have one"? And the Dog says this in clear spoken English while the dog starts to levitate and float across the room. If My Son thinks the cookie is amazing... What adjective can he now use to describe the dog.
  6. Oops, little late. Game 2 TWINS: SP, Darnell Schafer CF Dozier 2B Mauer DH Vargas 1B Plouffe 3B Arcia RF Nunez SS Parmelee LF Fryer C PALE HOSE: SP, Quintana Semien 2B Ramirez SS Abreu DH Garcia RF Viciedo 1B Taylor LF Sierra CF Phegley C Garcia 3B
  7. Wow, that Gopher game is something .... already 24-24! A real nail biter!
  8. Game-time forecast: Clear. Winds blowing in from center field at 1-5 m.p.h. Temperature around 55. Game 1 TWINS: SP, Hughes Santana CF Dozier 2B Mauer 1B Vargas DH Plouffe 3B Arcia RF Suzuki C Escobar SS Hicks LF PALE HOSE: SP, Carroll Eaton CF Ramirez SS Abreu DH Gillaspie 3B Garcia RF Danks LF Flowers C Wilkins 1B Sanchez 2B Game 2 lineups will be posted in thread after the completion of game 1 and when they become available. ----------------------- Brian, go to it! Double trouble! It suits you! ----------------------- Interesting... I think the last time I wore a suit was 10 years ago. It wasn't for anything special. I wore it because we hadn't done laundry in awhile and it was all I had left. Things to Think About: 1. Doubleheaders -- Doubleheaders are becoming a thing for our Twins. It's been said that two heads are better than one. Unless of course... You are a chef... in that case... Too many chefs spoil the Chicken Marsala. Two heads are also problematic for anybody born with two heads... I would have been happy with just one functioning head but two heads... especially two heads like mine wouldn't be ideal at all. The Twins are just like my head. You don't want two of them on Saturday afternoon. 2. 2015 Draft -- If the season ended right now... And wouldn't that be incredible if it did!!! If the season ended right now... The Twins would be drafting 5th overall just like last year... 5th when it should be 4th... However... The Astros didn't sign their draft pick this year and now they get the 2nd pick in 2015 to make up for that and this pushes everyone down a slot. I looked up one mock draft online... It stated that the Twins would get a High School OF named Daz Cameron. I can see it now Dazzle talking about Daz. Daz is the son of Mike Cameron and is projected to be the greatest player in the history of baseball. That sounds exciting but when I read projections... Everybody in the top 10 is supposed to be the greatest player in the history of baseball. Not everyone can be that... We all know that Joe Mauer is the greatest player in the history of baseball. So... I'm just going to assume it's hype. 3. AL Central -- As we watch the battle for last place... The Battle for 1st place has gotten interesting. The Royals should change their nickname to the roller coasters because that is what the KC Fans are on. They are the streakiest team in baseball... They get ungodly hot and then ungodly cold. They have lost 4 of their last 5 and this has allowed the Tigers to pass them by. The Royals have 16 games left to get hot again. The Tigers control their own destiny right now but somehow I believe it is up to the Royals. If the Royals want to take this thing they will. 4. Hughes and Milone -- Two pitchers starting for the Twins today... Polarity is what it's called... Hughes has been the best of our rotation and Milone has been the opposite. In fairness to Milone... he has been battling dead arm lately and you must assume that his arm has been revived because he's starting today. They should change the name... From Dead Arm to Critical Condition Arm or something. Maybe Walking Dead Arm. 5. Life on other Planets -- It has long been debated... Scientists have long searched for conclusive proof. Is there life on other planets? It would be awesome to find out for sure. What if we made contact? What if the creatures on those other planets are exactly like Carrot Top?
  9. First game to start at 3:10. Second game to start 30 minutes after the end of Game 1, but not before the originally scheduled 6:10. See y'all tomorrow.
  10. Okay ... everyone ... play nice. This started as an Iowa vs Iowa thread. I can see how that can lead to Big 10 discussion, so while not exactly how the thread started, it seems a natural digression. I don't think there are enough fans of any one college football team to keep one thread to one team or one match up, so let's all just go easy here. And while we can still have football talk here on a baseball site, and I'm not trying to discourage that, I am still going to try and encourage you to visit vikingsjournal.com if you want more interested parties around to discuss football. There is a college football forum specifically for this kind of talk with likely more interested parties there to share in the discussion instead of immediately going astray.
  11. Go, Cyclones!
  12. Yup, rainy here in Chicago. Actually don't think it's raining right this minute, but it will, and has been. Double header scheduled for tomorrow. Right now the schedule says 3:10 for Game 1 and Game 2 to follow that, but we'll get back to you on that when more is known. (Or maybe someone else has more info.) Feel free to discuss a phantom game if that is your wish.
  13. Let's not make this the same discussion we just had in another thread. Either keep discussion pertinent to this particular incident, or move on. Thanks.
  14. Game 2 Lineups TWINS: SP, Nolasco Dozier 2B Nunez 3B Plouffe DH Vargas 1B Pinto C Arcia RF Hicks CF Parmelee LF Bernier SS INDIANS: SP, House Bourn CF Ramirez SS Brantley LF Santana DH Kipnis 2B Aviles 3B Murphy RF Gimenez 1B Perez C
  15. Game-time forecast for Game 1: Mostly cloudy. Winds blowing from left to right field at 10-15 m.p.h. Temperature around 60-65. (That sounds like Fall weather; ugh.) Game 1 Lineups TWINS: SP, Gibson Santana CF Dozier 2B Mauer 1B Vargas DH Plouffe 3B Arcia RF Suzuki C Escobar SS Schafer LF INDIANS: SP, Kluber Bourn CF Ramirez SS Brantley DH Santana 1B Kipnis 2B Gomes C Chisenhall 3B Shuck LF Holt RF Lineups for Game 2 will be posted in thread when they become available and after the completion of Game 1. (Here) ---------------------------- Okay, Brian ... double-header means a double-good set up ... no pressure now ... but it's on you! (I think I might go and play tennis instead of watching Game 1, so, enjoy.) ----------------------------- Pressure... Pfft... That's for T-Shirt Launchers. Things to Think About: 1. Doubleheaders -- This one is an old fashioned double-header... The 2nd game is gonna start 20 minutes after the 1st game concludes. That leaves no time to clear the stadium and bring in a new crowd. So... Cleveland fans who purchase a ticket will be allowed to watch 18 (maybe more) innings of baseball. There was a time when this was an awesome thought. These days... people are complaining if a game goes over 3.5 Hours. I'd be fine sitting at the park for 6 to 8 hours... My wife would be wanting to leave eventually. Of course... It's Cleveland... So if my wife was asking to do something else. I'd just say to her... It's Cleveland... what else can you do. 2. The Indians Chances -- Currently the Indians are 4.5 games out of a wild card spot. Technically that is in the hunt. They have 19 games left to play so it will take an incredible hot streak but it is still possible and it has been done before. The Truth is... The Indians have been in this thing for awhile and it's time for second guessing in Northern Ohio. They were in it at the trade deadline at the end of July and they were in it at the trade deadline at the end of August. However... Indians management were sellers at the deadline... They were not buyers. The Indians will probably finish short this year and it appears that management felt they were going to finish short this year. They are looking at 2015 and beyond. 3. Veteren Smeterens -- Last year the Indians made a few decent sized FA signings while bringing on board Terry Francona as manager. The Indians saw immediate improvement but it all added up to not enough and this year those FA Signings and a handful of Indian Vets were curiously limited helpers. Nick Swisher has been injured this year while producing a .208 BA with 8 homers. Bourn has also been injured and has only stolen 9 bases in 2014. Kipnis hasn't been Kipnis this year with only 6 Home Runs and an OPS of .664. Smaller salaries with names like Brantley and Gomes have joined Santana to take over the leadership of this offense. On the Mound... Justin Masterson fell off the edge of cliff and was traded away at the deadline. Names like Kluber, House and Carrasco have taken over the leadership roles on the mound. Did the FA signings help this team or did they get in the way to something better. I think it's a little of both. 4. Pitching Smitching -- Meanwhile in Minnesota... The Twins poured some bucks into three starting pitchers. Hughes... Nolasco and Pelfrey. Hughes worked out and has so far been well worth the investment. Nolasco has not and Pelfrey... I almost forgot he was on the roster. The Bottom Line... Hughes and Gibson have been decent... Everybody else has been pretty bad. Along with Nolasco... Correia... Deduno... Pino... May and Milone simply haven't performed in a Twins uniform. Out of 144 Starts... Only 57 of them have been Quality Starts. If you take away the 56 starts by Hughes and Gibson... Out of 88 starts... Only 26 of them are Quality starts. I know there are some who hate the QS stat. I'm not one of them... I think that 26 Quality starts from starters not named Hughes and Gibson speaks volumes about why the Twins suffered their 3rd straight bad season. The Twins will get better when the starters get better and it won't happen until it does. 5. Kissable Areas -- As PG as I can make this... Here goes... A bizarre debate sprung up from a question. Here's the question... How many kissable areas are there on a women's body? One person was asked and he thought about it and said 6? I was observing and I shouted out 75!!! A second person was asked the question and he said umm... 8? Once again I shouted out 75!!! The third person asked was an older lady and she said... Just one... The Lips. I then shouted out... 76!!!
  16. Only you can see the number of warnings you have. The site owners and moderators can view the numbers everyone has but no other posters can see or know about your warnings, unless you publicly admit to it. Warning points expire after 120 days. The system is automated that when you reach a certain number of points, your posting privileges are temporarily ceased. 3 active points gets a 24 hour content suspension. You can send PMs. 5 active points gets a 72 hour content suspension. You can send PMs. 7 active points gets a week ban. You cannot send PMs. 9 active points gets a month ban. You cannot send PMs. 25 active points is an automatic permanent ban. An active point is one that has not expired. Content suspension means you cannot post. So, to reach those levels of time out, you'd have to receive that many points all within 120 days of one another. If you are on a course to receive one every 4 or 5 months? It's not a worry. This is why Brock had asked earlier when we went to this new system if anyone wanted their previous warnings removed as the new system was counting them all as active. The four warnings one could receive are for personal attacks, inappropriate language, spam and trolling/flamebaiting/threadjacking. They are based on the site rules. (Go to the bottom of the page and click on 'Privacy Policy and Site Rules.' Or click here.)
  17. Yup. That wasn't there two minutes ago but postponed due to rain. Double-header on Thursday ... so ... I'll leave this thread up and active and we'll start from here tomorrow!
  18. Game-time forecast: Mostly cloudy. Winds blowing out to center field at 15-20 m.p.h. Temperature around 80. TWINS: SP, Gibson Dozier 2B Suzuki C Mauer 1B Vargas DH Plouffe 3B Arcia RF Escobar SS Parmelee LF Hicks CF INDIANS: SP, House Bourn CF Ramirez SS Brantley LF Santana 1B Kipnis 2B Gomes DH Chisenhall 3B Murphy RF Perez C -------------------------------- Okay, Brian ... I got nothing ... tossing the ball to you ... --------------------------------- And I'm tossing it back to someone else... The Game is Postponed... I'm putting my feet up.
  19. Lol! He'd still get the response 'vraiment!'
  20. Turn it back on yourself, or anyone for that matter. These are people who have spent their careers in baseball in one form or another. You are an avid fan and know baseball maybe as well, maybe not as well, maybe better. That makes no difference. Still, if someone had disagreed with an opinion you gave, or an opinion you made turned out to be wrong, and someone quipped ... 'you just don't understand baseball.' Maybe you'd shrug it off, but it's still an insult and disrespectful, and if that had been said to you or anyone else, yes, the poster saying that would have been given a warning. Sometimes people are just wrong. Sometimes people make mistakes. Sometimes people just have different ideas about how to proceed that is 180 degrees different than you. Even people who really understand what they are doing. At work there are times I make mistakes, or have a different idea about how to accomplish something that maybe is not so apparent to my colleagues, while they can wonder what I am doing in that they want to understand my process, if they questioned my understanding of music in such a manner, that would be unacceptable and rude and I would not hesitate, politely, to tell them so. So, yes, it is disrespectful. It's frustrating, I know. Losing isn't fun. Especially when we think we know better or can see a solution or move that seems so obvious. The bottom line is we don't know what gets said or discussed behind the doors of the FO. And we are entitled to disagree. We are entitled to express our frustration and disagreement and our dislikes. But do so respectfully and maybe with a hint of perhaps there is something that we can still learn.
