  1. Moderator warning: The bickering needs to stop. Have a discussion and at some point, agree to disagree. Try not to make this personal by telling other posters they are off the rails, or need decaf, or just don't get it. Make your points without going there. Warnings are and will continue to be issued. It's frustrating to be losing and feel that issues aren't being addressed as we think they should be, but I think we can all express this without delving into the trolling and disrespect and non sequitur realms. Thank you!
  2. That's a good turn of phrase. I'm going to use that somewhere, somehow.
  3. Like last year, the games will be on ... in the background ... but they'll be on. And they'll be turned off when the score becomes lopsided. That's about all I can manage at this point. And when they come to town, I'll decide then whether or not I'll put my money into it. Part of being fans is enduring the ups and downs ... we've had some pretty high peaks and some exceptional valleys. The earliest games I remember were in '65 ... so I've experienced some pretty exceptional ups and downs. Good thing I like the roller coaster. It's frustrating, especially when we have thoughts and ideas that seem better than the decisions that are being made. But I just can't get too down or 'pulling-my-hair-out' frustrated about it all. I still love baseball, and I still love the Twins, and I'll keep on watching, even when it hurts. The decisions are not mine to make and it's just hard for me to get worked up about something so out of my control. Yes, I occasionally yell at the TV and curse at the FO, but then I move on, because it's out of my control. It's also just a game. One I love and enjoy, but it's just a game. There are truly more important things in life. I guess that's how I view it and how I handle the valleys. Hope for the best, prepare for the worst. Remember the good times when the bad gets overwhelming. But lose faith? Hmmm ... not sure I quite go that far because I still hope, but with perspective.
  4. Torii and Berardino seem to have come to an understanding with one another. Given that, I think this thread has run its course on the topic at hand and wants to delve into non-baseball areas. While I am not opposed to discussing the other issues touched on throughout this thread, it would be better to start a different thread in another forum to address those issues. Therefore I am locking this thread.
  5. Okay ... while I appreciate the viewpoint, let's not get off topic here and delve into the subject of the topic. That would be one for the Sports Bar forum.
  6. I think Berardino DID ask the tough question ... about Torii's defense. Those kinds of questions at that particular press conference I do laud, because that's what it's about. But the other? No, I don't laud that because the timing of it makes it suspect and sensational.
  7. Then where is Berardino's story on that? As soon as it was a possibility that Hunter was in the picture, why wasn't Berardino writing about that angle? Did he try to get an interview with Torii about it? I'm sorry, while the topic may be legit, the timing was not, imo, and Berardino took an opportunity to jump on that bandwagon at an inappropriate time. It just wasn't good. And Hunter was exactly who Hunter is, and Berardino probably knew that, too. Neither in this scenario comes across at all well. But the more we harp on it, the more sensational it gets.
  8. His public statement of his beliefs is old news. The fact that they came out again? Okay, that's not old, but what they are is. And if there wasn't an election, it wouldn't have happened. Was it smart for him to do so as he was entering free agency? It's his choice and his right to do so and deal with the consequences. But bringing this all up at a press conference in the manner it was, I call that sensational journalism. What was the pertinence of that? As was said above, very ill-timed. And Hunter's response? Unprofessional.
  9. Moderator note: If you want to trash/bash Deadspin and Gawker and the like, you are fine to do so in your own thread in the Sports Bar forum. This is about Berardino's line of questioning and Hunter's response and what we think of that. Period. Deadspin did not make this up. Let's keep it to the main topic and not go down a peripheral route. Thanks.
  10. This. There was no reason for that at this particular presser. While I disagree whole-heartedly with Hunter's beliefs, these aren't recent nor are they news. Well, yes, news ... old news. There was no reason whatsoever to revisit this at this particular moment. Do Hunter and Berardino have any kind of history? And Torii, ugh. You'd think by now he'd know how to handle this in a professional manner, which he did not. One of the reasons I wasn't too happy about this signing. Torii calling someone a prick ... he needs to look in a mirror, imo.
  11. I didn't hear it but this gave me enough of an idea. I think it was an epic fail on both parties. Asking that at this particular press conference showed some pretty extreme poor judgment, imo. And Torii's response, equally bad. They both sunk to a low.
  12. If Torii can manage to assist in that endeavor, then I'll be all in in hindsight.
  13. Sigh. At least it's only a one-year deal. That doesn't make it okay, but at least it's just that. Ugh.
  14. Moderator note: before this back and forth gets snippier, let's end it now. Keep the discourse respectful and pertinent.
  15. Another reason to stay far away from ESPN whenever I can help it. As if I didn't already have reason enough. And yeah, Keith Law just went up several notches in my book.
  16. Good. I like that news.
  17. I celebrated a few those when I lived there. Happy belated to you and TN. Aww, Ash ... you know we always enjoy you and Brian! And for the rest of you, Happy Thanksgiving!
  18. Too ... many ... comebacks ... must ... refrain ...
  19. We try to cut down on the redundancy by merging similar threads when we catch them. Since I was baking this evening, I didn't catch this until now. Not sure what Ash's excuse was. Oh, he was being positive. Anyway ... threads merged ... continue with the discussion.
  20. I think this hits on the crux of it for me. We got the biggest change in the area that needed it the most. While there are others who have had their affiliation with the Twins to varying degrees, I'm okay with the mix. While it may not be different in every way some wanted it, the mix is different. There may be some of the same voices, but they won't be singing the same part and will be harmonizing differently. I'm hopeful for a pleasant result, but as I've also said above and elsewhere, time will tell. While I was perhaps hoping for something a bit 'more different,' I'm not disappointed, either. Vavra's appointment to bench coach was a bit of a surprise, but again, it's a different role and maybe one he is well suited to. There is still a 1st base coach to appoint, yes?
  21. I know that there are many who wanted everyone to come from the outside, but that much change was never going to happen. And, quite frankly, I'm not sure a complete upset and remake is ever a good idea. There are changes here, but whether it is enough only time will tell.
  22. I thought Glynn was the 3rd base coach? I think all that's left is 1st base coach? Or do I have that backwards? Anyway, I am a bit surprised by this. I've always liked Vavra and thought they'd find a way to keep in the organization, but as bench coach? That surprises me.
  23. Moderator's note: There has been overly much sniping and bickering in this thread. Please make sure your posts are about the topic and not more about the other person.
  24. Please continue this discussion in the article thread. Thanks.
  25. Well now ... I'm good with that.
