  1. o/~ Chain chain chain ... chain of fools ... ~\o And currently in my parents home we have both chocolate covered cherries and fruitcake. I will gladly partake of the former and toss the latter. However, there are some fruitcakes I do like ... the ones with no candied fruit in them, and the right amount of brandy or rum soaked in.
  2. And for the record, I do think it's sad when the only solution to resolve bickering in a thread is to close it. I'm sorry you don't like that comment, but that wasn't even directed at you only and personally because that wasn't even your comment. That was a suggestion another poster made. But in some ways it really was directed at everyone because that's what in thread moderator warnings are and why no one's post was quoted nor no names were used. But why I think it's sad is because that means that posters have either bickered the thread to death or it's gotten so derailed and is such a mess that there just is no saving it and there is no alternative. Or that discussion has just gone around and around and around because one or more parties in a thread are talking past one other, saying the same things over and over again because they either fail to really listen to one another or they are so certain they are right that they refuse to accept any kind of disagreement and continue on instead of acknowledging you just disagree, agreeing there is no resolution and walking away. It's sad that we as adults cannot carry on discussion without getting so offended over said disagreements and begin taking and making things personal. For any thread to get to that point, I find that sad because to me it just is. As for referring to the discussion at hand as sad and boring, I agree, that was over the line and those words were removed almost immediately by myself without any prompting or suggestion. All the moderators have their own set of standards, but we generally work together and discuss everything that goes on to come to consensus. We also work extra hard to police ourselves and one another because if we are going to try and help facilitate discussion through moderation, we have to hold ourselves to a certain line as well. But we aren't perfect and are only human and as a result, I have issued warning points to/from myself and have apologized to offended parties. Neither of which are warranted in this case, imho. I'm sorry you disagree. As for my own part in this current thread, I'm done. You have been given many explanations as to the why and wherefores of your and our actions. You can continue to disagree, but I'm walking away. The results are still the same.
  3. No, it wasn't allowed to stand. Go back and look, it was also removed.
  4. Actually, that in thread warning by me came as a response to some posts that were deleted, one of which included a very disrespectful comment by KirbyDome toward another poster, for which a warning point was issued. That warning point may have been just a PM had another moderator not already issued an in thread warning, that was ignored, as TN points out.
  5. Hahahaha ... that was the correct answer!
  6. Carleton or St. Olaf?
  7. Wonder who that could be ...
  8. Final celebrity death of 2016? William Christopher (Father Mulcahy from MASH) died this morning.
  9. Yeah, and I had the pleasure of watching you all grow up! Well, most of you anyway ...
  10. Geez ... showing your age a bit, aren't you?
  11. I think that's what people are questioning ... how do you know they didn't have that conversation with the Dodgers FIRST, and that the press is just reporting where things are at? I think it's hugely presumptuous of you to assume that that conversation hasn't happened and that the press is reporting it to us, secondarily, to let us know that this is where things stand ... that there is a timeline in place. And everyone, please stop the 'LOL-ing' at each other.
  12. I don't think that's an inference you can make from the article one way or the other.
  13. And we've certainly appreciated your knowledgeable input and perspective over the years on baseball injuries, specifically TJ surgery!
  14. I grew up in Winona, went to school someplace not far from there, ended up in the Cities for about 13 years before work took me 'abroad.' Returned to the States and have been working and living in Chicago for the last, almost 17 yrs. I'm a musician and am one of the lucky ones who make a good living at it, although no longer performing. (You can read my TD profile, if you like, although it's really not that much more illuminating.) I'm old enough and have been a Twins fan since birth. Best memories? Oooh boy ... lots. Getting Rod Carew's autograph when he was a Twin. Beating Detroit in '87 for the AL Championship and the rally that night at the Dome. The '87 and '91 World Series. The many, many Spring Trainings I've been to. My first trip to Target Field ... which ended up not being for a game because the ticket I had was for the only game that was rained out the year it opened. And I couldn't stay long enough to go to the make-up game. So friends of mine who 'knew people' got me into the stadium to walk around, wherever, unescorted. Any time the Twins beat the White Sox when they are in Chicago. Buxton's inside-the-park HR last year was fun ... he hadn't quite rounded 2nd when I knew it, when any Twins fan knew it, and I'm at the Cell near the front row on the 1st base side, jumping up and down, yelling, 'Inside the park! Inside the park!' with bemused White Sox fans looking on until they realized what I was screaming about after it was over a second later. Those are a few of the highlights out of many. Some favorite players: Killebrew, Oliva, Carew, Gaetti, Hrbek, Puckett, Hunter, Johann, Dozier I've been coming to TD since almost near the beginning, after BYTO folded itself into here. The articles and coverage, both major and minor, keep me coming back for more. And the community. Being outside Minnesota, I need a place so I don't feel quite so alone, an island unto myself amid White Sox fans in Chicago. (Yes, not Cubs' fans ... I live closer to White Sox territory here.) I'm reading something here whenever I have a minute and I read far more than I post.
  15. Oh, I don't think we are really so far off in disagreement here. I have always stated we needed pitching and Dozier is the chip to get it. And I, too, want quality over quantity ... but I think there are differing opinions and approaches to what quality gained = what quality lost and finding that right balance that actually does good for us in the future. Yeah, it's all a crap shoot no matter what direction you go, but we could do worse damage to our future, imo, if it's not the right deal, risk or no risk.
  16. That's fair. And I guess that's the divide here between the varying points of view on this issue. For me, there is a point where you walk away. Yeah, there's risk no matter how you look at it. It's just difficult for me to part with a proven, definite asset for something that may never produce. I'd be more comfortable, obviously, with a return of more pieces in the hopes that one is really good. Is there a point you'd walk away from this situation, out of curiosity?
  17. Which is why I used a question mark as I was asking. If that's all the offer is for, then what?
  18. I'm not sure it's really about value that Dozier isn't getting what he's worth. It's more about supply and demand. So are you saying that you would trade him straight up for DeLeon? A proven ML position player with above average defense and well above average power for his position, for an unproven highly ranked prospect within the Dodgers system? No. The only thing you can do is hold him and hope that a better offer comes along. Yes, we need pitching, but ONE pitching prospect isn't going to solve that. It may not even be a start if that ONE prospect doesn't pan out. Yeah, this isn't s great place to be in and we all hoped for more, but that's just how it is. If that's all there is out there for Dozier, you keep him and hope for better. If not, you look for another way. If this is the only way to improve our future, then we don't have much of one.
  19. Well, I don't agree. And I still don't call it an ultimatum.
  20. <pppffftsputtter> I'm not even sure how to respond to that. But somewhere in the Universe, Skeletor is getting anxious.
  21. Sigh. Brock, when are there going to be ads with shirtless He-men eye candy for me to date?
  22. Actually, I am not that big of a fan of bacon, so adding that to the offer just isn't enough to get it done for me. I want something better. When you have filet mignon on the table then we'll talk. And I'm prepared to eat tofu rather than trade Dozier for bacon.
  23. Which is why some of doubt that's the case despite the certainty one of our posters is certain of his source.
