  1. Yep. Although, in my public school background, there was still always this sect, or group, or clique of the ‘privileged’ elite. There were also guys who ... did ... ‘whatever’ ... because they could, and not be called on it because the culture was such that the response was to just ‘ignore’ or ‘stay away’ from so-and-so and/or an implication that the girls brought about said male behavior. I’m on the ‘older’ side of life at this point, and in my non-elite, non-big-City public school there were instances of serious misconduct and sexual harassment or worse. It’s not just the elite, privately educated schoolboys who have partaken in this behavior. Maybe it’s more rampant because wealth seems to beget (not always) a sense of ‘I can get away with anything’ and the only remorse shown is for getting caught.
  2. Where she will be treated like a criminal. Sad.
  3. If he did this, and I have no doubts he did, that attitude toward women, the indifference about it, no apology and worse, no acknowledgement and no remorse, is enough I need to know that he cannot objectively judge policy regarding protection and equality. His character should be a deterrent to his nomination, imo
  4. Wow. What impact has that had, though?
  5. The fact that he hasn’t says even more who he is. I’m not surprised. These are the types of people trump surrounds himself with - immoral, soulless, selfish, entitled, doesn’t care about anyone or anything except what’s in it for him and how much he can rape and pillage our country for sport and personal gain.
  6. My sister loves New Zealand.
  7. The more things change the more they stay the same. I say this to just about every and any issue. Laws are one thing, attitudes are another. And everything goes out the window when power and control are at stake. There is no equality in our society. None.
  8. I'm prefacing this with this warning: this is an OPINION piece, and an opinion piece by someone who is a LIBERAL political consultant. So, there is definite angle on it. However, some of what he lays out there, of just who Kavanaugh is, is a bit, well ... you decide. https://www.nbcnews.com/think/opinion/i-knew-brett-kavanaugh-during-his-years-republican-operative-don-ncna907391
  9. Easy enough to do. It’s difficult to find truly neutral news sources, but you can find balance with those that are only marginally right or left vs those that are intentionally right or left.
  10. REMINDER: the purpose of this thread is to serve as an aggregate for national news stories on the Twins. The discussion on Kepler, while interesting, belongs elsewhere as it is sidetracking this thread. If you want to continue the discussion, please start a separate thread and keep this one to post various news stories and links. Thank you.
  11. Since D.Hocking brings up Clarence Thomas ... I guess there's not always fire where there's smoke, but there was plenty of fire in Thomas' case and I have a difficult time believing this behavior on Kavanaugh's part is isolated. We go back to Thomas and Anita Hill. It wasn't isolated. There were women lined up to tell their stories about Thomas and his behavior and the judiciary committee at that time quashed it. Who knows why ... maybe they were worried about skeletons in their own closets, or maybe this was just how it was done then and women weren't to be 'believed' or it was just accepted male behavior, or maybe they didn't want to make a deal of it because potential future retribution, or, being politicians, maybe they were more concerned about their own careers and making so many women's stories public was a deal breaker for them (thank you, Joe Biden /s). So, Anita Hill became the lone voice at the time and it was a 'he said, she said' situation as far as the public knew, and we all know how that went. But the politicians at that time, they KNEW. They ALL knew that Clarence Thomas was horrible person he was accused of and still passed through. I have a difficult time with this one, even if it's a lone voice, because of the years she's dealt with this in therapy. While she didn't file a police report, there is ample evidence, imo, to believe her story, that this is a trauma she has been dealing with for some time. I hope if there are others they come forward. I hope the Senate really gives this behavior some serious thought because this is not someone that should be deciding any laws in regards to the female population, or anyone for that matter. I hope. But in this instance, hope won't get me anywhere and he will pass through, too.
  12. I saw that clip when I watched game highlights ... I really wanted it to keep going to see what would happen next ...
  13. I agree. If they were walking away from him, they'd call for impeachment. While they might dislike him and they might counter some of his rhetoric, it's all a means to an end for them. Otherwise they would have walked away long ago.
  14. Since this is a more general baseball question/discussion, I've moved this to the 'MLB/Other Baseball' forum.
  15. Okay, I’m gonna throw a little cold water out here, which is not my norm, but at one time weren’t Buxton and Sano the overall #1 and #6 prospects? I don’t want to get into a discussion about either or both of them, and their seasons this year, or the whys and wherefores of that season, just pointing out that prospect rankings don’t always correlate to MLB success. At least not yet. But those are quite the leaps for those two and not at all where I’d have expected either of them. And despite my above comment, I’m still hopeful because ‘hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things ...’
  16. In that case, I hope you can resist the temptation to say something snarky to them. I know that will be difficult.
  17. Heh ... I'm going to have fun at work tomorrow ... one of my colleagues is a Yankee fan.

  19. If that’s the case for you, your work is sad.
  20. Wow, a joke I’ve never heard before. /s
  21. Or ... if you have a link from the internet of the image or gif you want to use and are using the full editor on your desktop, click on the 'image of a tree' icon and follow the prompts. Or, as spycake noted above, click on 'More reply options' and follow those directions. Those instructions work for downloaded images and photos.
  22. You mean multiply by the 2 and the 7, not add.
  23. Meanwhile, in Daytona Beach, the Miracle are up 8-5 over the Tortugas in the top of the 9th ...
  24. Nope. There is no longer a schedule ... whoever gets here first, starts it ... so this will be the game thread tonight.
