Until they sign Upton, remove someone on the 40-man and send Celestino back to AAA ... although that isn't likely to happen before tomorrow ... so ... cheers! And GO TWINS!
I think Celestino will be fine. He really did well in the latter half of the AAA season, after being called up to the Twins prematurely without AAA experience. I had, however, wanted him to play at least another half season in AAA, but, until they get another fielder ... which makes me wonder about the other part of the Hayes tweet regarding Upton
I just added it to my post ... Stashak to the IL and Jax sent down ... although I haven't seen that officially announced ... that was an answer to my question to Dan Hayes on twitter
Dan Hayes also said roster to be released in the next hour ... he also said that the two pitchers off the active roster are Stashak and Jax ... as we already concluded above would be likely ... but ... no word on a 4th OF ... could be a waiver claim, could be Garlick ... each with a 40-man move ... or ... could be Larnach or Celestino, which I kind of doubt ... so ...............................
Well, to add more confusion … I just check the Twins website and counted 29 on the active roster. A pitcher (Jax) going down makes it 28 … so there is some confusion going on.
Imo, Garlick was NEVER an option, so I’m not concerned about 40-man issues today … the only way Garlick is potentially added is to fill a 60-day IL. I’m just wanting to see the final 28-man roster. And counting 29 had me even more, ‘Wait, wut?’
I stated this question better in another thread … maybe they aren’t adding another position player, and Gordon is our 4th OF and that’s it? (Or are the numbers such that they have to?) Or, are they just adding another pitcher to fill that final spot? Do either Pagan or Paddock have options? We removed Rogers and Rooker and added Paddock and Pagan … do both of them make the team? If one of them is sent to StP, then my guess is either Larnach or Celestino are called up. Or that final spot is filled by another pitcher?
i am NOT suggesting Garlick makes the team because, no, I agree we’d lose someone we shouldn’t.
I’m still on the fence about this … I want to see the final roster. With Rooker out of the equation, do they just go with Gordon as our 4th OF and carry yet another pitcher for the next month and see what sticks?
But seriously, or somewhat because that Tarzan costume kind of through me … sure it wasn’t a Fred Flintstone costume? … anyway .., if not Larnach, I don’t see them adding Garlick, then who? Gordon is our 4th outfielder, and that’s it?
Duran won’t be used as a starter, at least not to start the year. They’ve been pretty clear that he will be used in the BP to work his innings up. But I do wonder, now, if Winder will be the odd man out and sent back to St Paul before he throws a pitch in the majors. Yes, he will eventually get his opportunity, but … maybe not this coming week
Celestino was called up too soon out of need due to injuries. He basically went from AA to the majors with barely a stop in between and was understandably overmatched. Once he went back to AAA, and got on course, the latter half of his season there was very good, showing the promise that was always there. He will get the call if anyone gets injured or falters and I think will be much improved his 2nd time around
A new thread has been started .., go there to continue the trade discussion.
