I feel like the Twins would have to be blown away to trade Gibson. On a contending team he's a solid 3/4 in a rotation and he's already locked in for one more season. The only way I trade him is for a pitcher who is already at AA or higher, is pitching well and has a high floor / good ceiling.
I'm a little confused by this. The top three in the Twins system (Lewis, Kiriloff, Graterol) have the chance to be elite players and have as much upside as anyone in the game. If these three continue to have the success they're currently having for the rest of the season all three might end up being in the top 35 by season's end. This would be incredible considering on average each baseball teams should have 3.33 prospects in the top 100 and the Twins might have 3 in the top 35.
The Twins need to be sellers unless by the deadline they're within 4 or 5 games and actually playing good baseball. They need to hope Dozier starts to heat up so he has trade value at the deadline.
No way I give up Lewis for a catcher. If he continues to play well he'll be a consensus top 15 prospect by either mid-season or at the end of the season once a few people graduate. I'd also have a tough time giving up Kiriloff with the way he is playing right now. If he continues his pace could start next season in AA and should shoot up most prospect lists this year.
He did but the part that I don't understand is people making this a race issue. Isn't Royce's father African American? Which makes him half White and half African American, correct? I find it ridiculous to hint or state that people commenting only talk about players with "High Character" when discussing White players.
I don't think I could say it better than AZTwin that this discussion got completely derailed. This was definitely not the discussion I was expecting to read. Back to their talent and topic at hand. What does everything think about these two being selected to play in the Arizona Fall League? Would this be a typical stage for them to go against the better talent in that league?
It's going to be great to watch these two as they move up each level. Obviously we're a few years down the road but it will be interesting where Kiriloff will play with the Twins outfield seemingly set with Rosario, Buxton and Kepler.
Are team options common in baseball contracts? Would both sides be agreeable to a 5 year deal where year 4 is a player option and year 5 is a team option or player/team option? Deal would be 5 years for say 85 to 90 million. After year three Dozier could opt out and after year four both parties would have to agree to the fifth year. I think this would be beneficial for both parties. It gives Dozier the security with a 4 year deal and also gives him the option to opt out early if he continues to put up great years. It would also give the team security because they would have to agree to the fifth season and if he starts dropping off they walk away.
So, it makes sense now why the Twins signed Aybar. With Polanco and Sano potentially being suspended for the beginning of the season they needed someone as a backup plan.
In the very small sample size of games / innings I've been able to watch so far this season it does seem like Gordon's arm is really weak especially since he's been throwing from second base. I know he injured one of his wrists earlier in ST, not sure which one, so if it's his throwing arm then maybe that is why.
I think the Twins will miss his right handed bat the most especially since it looks like they will be replacing him with Gordon. It would definitely be difficult to replace everything he does for the Twins team. I'd like to see them bring him back for 3 or 4 more seasons but if they don't I just hope the FO actually spends the money on the starting rotation.
Part of the reason he'd start in AA is the depth the Twins currently have at pitching. Twins: Santana, Berrios, Gibson, Odorizzi and Mejia AAA Starters: Slegers, Gonsalves, Jorge, Enns and Huges/Littel/May
