  1. I am all for sending Buxton down (and said so last fall). But that doesn't mean signing a mediocrity like DMurphy. Just play Kepler and Arcia more. Unless the Twins plan on demoting another player as well. Even then DMurphy is not part of the solution.
  2. Last year Tonkin had a better WHIP, K/9 and xFIP than Pressly. I'm just saying.
  3. From 2005-11, our draft classes yielded Tonkin, Gibson, Dozier, O'Rourke, and Rosario + Hicks and Revere. And with the exception of Sano (and Polanco and Kepler), our international signings have amounted to what? Only 1 starting pitcher in all of those years. No wonder the Twins have been signing Hughes and Nolasco and Santana.
  4. Not to mention balancing. And realligning. And I can't help but think something more than that.
  5. That's not entirely fair when you are one of 30 teams and mid-market to boot.
  6. If you don't like 3 year deals for relievers, why wouid you consider extending Jepsen?
  7. An 8-man bullpen is unconscionable at the start of the season. I wouldn't be afraid of 2-year deals of $4-6M for certain relievers like Madson, Sipp, Bastardo and I wouldn't be afraid to sign 2 or three. I wonder if the RP market isn't too hot for that.
  8. Why do you guys do this? He didn't ask what the Twins would do.
  9. No MLB team will give Pinto a 25-man roster spot. Sign him to a MiLB contract (with premium, with or without NRI) and let's see what we have. Vargas has an option. Santana in CF and Sano in RF sounds icky. And it means you have to sign another OF capable of playing CF. Shane Robinson, anyone.
  10. Has anyone noted that Danny Santana has only played one game at 3B in the minors and that was in 2010. If the Twins trade Plouffe, who would be the backup 3B? Escobar? Nunez? Hermmann? I could see Santana becoming a super utility type. Except he only has played two games in LF (also in 2010) and none in RF. I think Danny needs to focus on SS this year (and backing up CF if/when Buxton is in the minors). Escobar is more versatile and has less need to focus as long as he's not played in OF. I would make Escobar the regular SS, but have him back up 2B and 3B with Santana filling in at SS.
  11. I applaud your willingness to sell high. I would be more intrigued with your proposal to trade Dozier and Gibson if you mentioned the trade targets. Eddie Rosario only played 18 games at 2B in 2014. I think that idea has expired. It would certainly degrade the defense. Why degrade 3B and LF defensively by playing Sano and Plouffe in those positions respectively when you can degrade only one by moving Sano to LF.
  12. Cut the kid some slack. No point comparing him to a Hall of Famer who at the same age put up a .319/.374/.478 line in AA.
  13. Well said. Jettison Boyer, Fein, and Pelfrey and restore May to the rotation. Put Duensing on a short leash in light of the last season and two/thirds. Listen to offers because Rodgers can replace him. Trade for a good set up man at a price less than the Astros paid for Kazmir. Promote Tonkin, Duffey, Oliveros (if healthy) and Achter in that order, as spots become available. That means you don't have to wait for the trade. Let's see what we have for the future. Use O'Rourke strictly as a LOOGY. Call up Berrios and Rodgers on the last day to be playoff eligible.
  14. Tom, did you look here. It says Under Construction, but it's a good place to start. You can see Rule 5 eligibility and the number of options left. http://twinsdaily.com/organization-chart.html
  15. FWIW, Finnegan started 43 games in his career at TCU. He went straight to A+ ball and started all 5 games there. Then they promoted him and moved him to relief. Didn't TCU go to the CWS in Finnegan's last year. That means Jay will have relatively more rest. With the information I have, I would do the same thing the Royals did with Finnegan.
  16. I respectfully diss Daz Cameron. What does this mean? "Right or wrong, blood lines matter." Tell that to Pete Rose Jr. Or NICK GORDON. One of his virtues is polish. That's what the minors are for. He is less athletic than his dad and much more likely to be ticketed for RF sooner than later where his bat won't play up nearly as well. Kyle Tucker does what Cameron does (and more with the bat) and is much more affordable short-run and long-run without the Boras baggage.
  17. Ryan has already been quoted in the press and saying that Sano should be able to play the outfield. He is athletic for a big man.
  18. The weakness is the bullpen. Last in the AL in xFIP and BB%.
  19. I wouldn't be surprised to see Fulmer crack the top 5 which could make someone higher on the Twins board available. Please not Cameron. Swanson, Rodgers, Tate, and Bregman are in the top 5 of my board. I like Jay (assuming the only reason he is not starting is enertia).
  20. In 676 plate appearances for AA New Britain, Morneau put up .293/.351/.475 slash stats. His BB% was 7.69%, his K% was 16.27%, and his Isolate Power was .182. He was a year younger, in a different park, in a different league, in a different generation. I still don't see an edge in walks or power. Let's see what happens when Kepler's sample is not so small. And again when he moves up a couple of rungs.
  21. This is what I wrote yesterday. Too bad the comments don't move when a blog becomes an article. I picked Max to click this year based on his AFL showing. His BABIP is not sustainable at .367 and I suspect his K% is, too, at 9.5%. His current BB% is only 6.3%. His offense has been very much driven by his batting average. It is perhaps wishcasting, but I perceive an uptick in plate discipline and power lately. He will need more of that as his batting average regresses. I think he is just tapping his power potential. And his confidence has to be soaring. The good news is that he is hitting .316/.350/.474 against LHP's. But then again, that's only over 19 AB's. I'm not sure Kepler's defense is tenable in CF for two weeks. His fringe average arm might limit him to LF and 1B. I don't see a surplus in the OF yet. I am counting on Buxton. I have always hoped that Hicks abides. But if Arcia can't put up offensive numbers that make his defense tolerable, that leaves Kepler and Rosario. [And Sano.] With his peripherals, I think Kepler will eclipse Rosario.
  22. If you love a healthy Kolby Allard (who is shorter), I think you would love Tyler Jay.
  23. I heart Tyler Jay. At 6'1" (with smooth delivery, athleticism, and arm speed) I'm not concerned about his height. See Johan Santana and Pedro Martinez. Not seeing he will be as good as they were. Could be better than JO Berrios who is 6'0".
