  1. My guess is they had a play on and Abreu missed the sign. Flowers should still have been able to hold the ball.
  2. The Sox radio guys are great. How did they come to have such a buffoon doing TV for all these years?
  3. I don't get the Pinto thing. He's hardly played this year. He's a liability behind the plate compared with any of the other three catchers. He's recovering (and probably not completely recovered) from a brain injury. The best we could hope for with him would be an occasional pinch hitting role, and we have Vargas for that now. Just let him be and hope he's ready to do well in February.
  4. Regarding Kepler: I think Buxton makes for a good comparison. Both hit well at AA, and neither had ever played at a higher level. Buxton's defense and baserunning are major-league ready, Kepler's are not. Buxton was called up in both instances only because Hicks was on the DL, and there's no similar pressing need now for Kepler because we have plenty of outfielders and first basemen. If Hicks had stayed healthy it's unlikely Buxton would have been promoted to the majors before today. Buxton is rated by everyone to be superior to Kepler and he has struggled at the plate, and I think that it is very unlikely that Kepler would do better. Based on all this, I don't have a problem with leaving Kepler where he is.
  5. I think this is a disingenuous argument. It's not 2022 that Ryan is looking at, it's 2016. And wanting Ryan gone, well, it seems to me that there has been immense improvement in the state of the organization since he took over, and it's been less than five years. Baseball organizations can't be improved overnight without huge money. Think Yankee money. Whether Ryan is the best person to move the organization forward further from here is certainly a legitimate point of discussion but based on how things are now compared to how things were when he took over it's hard to say he hasn't done well.
  6. If that's really the case he needs to get over it. A good athlete does his or her best no matter what the situation is. Everybody knows he'll be pitching in the majors when the time comes. And the people who know best about when the time is right know more than we do. I'd like to see what he can do in the majors but it's what's best for Berrios, not what's best for the major league team, that matters.
  7. Pinto? He's hardly played all year. I'd put Arcia ahead of him. And you have 6 starters when only 4 are needed, so which two would become relievers?
  8. I would like this if it were only the wave-doers who were annoyed by your anti-wave. However, I have to think this would wind up annoying both the wave-doers and the wave-don'ters. Edited to add: And if all the wave-don'ters did the anti-wave there would be far more people standing for far longer than if only the wave-doers stood while wave-doing.
  9. One way to avoid the wave is to attend games at Tropicana Field.
  10. I never participate in the wave and I wish people wouldn't do it because it's a distraction. But I can't say that I hate it and I don't think it's worth it to get all wound up about it. It seems like it almost always ends when the half-inning ends or there is a significant play on the field so just try to ignore it and it will be gone shortly.
  11. How does that happen? ERA of about 2.35 against everyone else and about 7.60 against us.
  12. I saw Reggie Jackson hit a double at Met Stadium that hit the center field fence on the fly. I swear the ball was never more than 20' off the ground. I don't think I've ever seen a ball hit harder.
  13. It's a beautiful day for a ball game, for a ball game today. (Those of a certain age know the song.)
  14. This is the philosophy behind any trade. That, and trade from areas of surplus for areas of deficiency. Plouffe should be able to generate a pretty good return, but it does no good to trade him if it doesn't benefit the organization. And since no specific trade is on the table we can't say whether he should be traded or not. It depends on whom we'd be getting back.
  15. Well, that's enough of that.
  16. I can't think of a reason. And there had better not be a contract offer for next year.
  17. Yes. What's with everyone tonight? It should not take 21 minutes for someone to post that.

  19. Great song, but I remember an interview in which Buxton said he was all country. I expected, well, I don't know what, but I didn't expect P-funk.
  20. The last time I was there I got one of their brats and told the woman to put as much sauerkraut on as they were allowed to do. I could hardly see the brat underneath it all. Wonderful!
  21. Has anyone ever hit a ball thru that space before?
  22. Late to the game. Just got back from the local high school marching band performance. It's nice of the athletic department to provide football for entertainment during intermission. They also have football after the second half of the program for those who want to stay, but we left.
