  1. What is the future for J.T. Chargois? The high hopes entering 2017 have dimmed to now there is no buzz. I hope he can get back on track in 2018 and contribute in the Twins bullpen.
  2. Agreed. This is one of the reasons why I was against trading Dozier last offseason for a pitching prospect. Dozier is a gamer and a winner and a team leader (who is also a great player) and I want a guy like him on my team as long as possible.
  3. He was successful everywhere he went, pretty much from day one. So, looking back on it maybe his successful career should not even be any bit of a surprise. Interesting he was not drafted after his junior year of college.
  4. The Twins will sign Mauer for 2-3 more years.. because, well, we are Minnesota by the way and that is how we do things. Joe will have a similar year to 2017 in 2018-2020 and be part of a winning club that goes deep into the postseason. I hope he hangs around here long enough to add a Gold Glove to boost his Hall of Fame chances and also to bring a World Series title home.
  5. The Twins will out perform these projections for the most part.
  6. Didn't his assists take a dip the last two years? I thought he was a better outfielder defensively that what you portray, I wonder why the defensive value was -6.2 in 2017? It was 2.2 in 2015 and -1.4 in 2016 - I just don't see how his defense decreased so drastically in 2017. Those numbers don't pass my eyeball test unless his 2015 numbers were increased by the higher number of assists. The traditional stats of errors and fielding percentage are better in 2017 as opposed to 2015. I don't recall his range decreasing in 2017 so I am stumped by the -6.2.
  7. You are spot on that Kepler is on the verge of a breakthrough. The Twins need to take the same approach they took with Buxton in 2017 - play Max every day and let him work it out and get the needed experience - including against left handed pitching.
  8. What does Miguel Sano's resolution look like? I am guessing much different than a week or so back.
  9. Extend him so that he can retire as a Twin. That is most likely 4-5 years. He is too valuable and is the cornerstone of the franchise and the leader of the team. The one thing not considered too much here is what are Dozier's feelings on the matter? My gut instinct is that Dozier wants to stay loyal to the Twins and stay with this franchise while at the same time being paid top dollar (well deserved top dollar).
  10. That is a lot of first time pitchers, especially for an 85 win team. My hope is that 2017 was a transition year and the Boy Wonders can stabilize the pitching staff in 2018.
  11. The whole blog within a blog conundrum kept popping into my mind and I think you eloquently stated the issue. I see the benefit to getting more views due to the large numbers here at Twins Daily. However, I don't like being at the mercy of another site and being buried.
  12. If the Twins don't sign Darvish then they need to try to grow the pitching staff organically, as they have with the position players. It has been at least a generation since the Twins have built a home grown pitching staff, now is the time for the Boy Wonders to earn their keep and promote from within. Going into sell mode is frightening for the average Twins fan. The Twins have rarely (if ever) sold valuable assets with an eye to building a team long term or even 'flipping' valuable assets to bolster the chance for a title today. Not to mention, we all have David Ortiz in the back of our minds so trading a player like Sano gives us the cold sweats. My preference is to roll with the talent we have today and add a top notch pitcher and let's see where this new generation of talent will lead us.
  13. Hey Cowbell, it can get more serious here than Twinkie Town for sure. Also, the mods can come down on you for some bizarre topics. Criticism of certain players or team employees or even name calling in jest can earn a reprimand. (thebomisthebomb aka gintzer from Twinkie Town)
  14. Mauer has contributed nothing postseason-wise so maybe taking a gamble at a 2002-2004 World Series run would have been worth it. It has been a long time since 1991 and a title in the early 2000s would have really dulled some pain. Mauer is a borderline HOFer so it is hard to argue against his long term impact to this franchise - it's just that it has amounted to no postseason success and no World Series titles.
  15. Having Duke change his arm slot sounds good on paper, however, there must be a reason he hasn't dropped sidearm more often. Good catch on the arm slot differences, it will be interesting to see if the Twins picked up on it too and try to change things with Duke.
  16. The pay is painfully low. The blogs are not promoted enough on TD. My gut instinct is that most readers/commenters are happy with the content currently on TD. If you truly want to expand the blogs and independent writers, then get a separate website for that activity (which you could link to on TD). When I come to TD today I want the good content from the strong writers about 98% of the time. The other 2% of the time I will search around and look at the blogs. If the blogs had their own separate website I could focus my time there more efficiently and effectively. Right now, it is obvious that TD does not emphasize the blogs. John Bonnes has the time to be on the radio with KFAN. While not denying him the opportunity to run his career the way he wants to, it feels hollow that he speaks of a lack of time to curate the blogs on TD while expanding his media footprint elsewhere. TD might or might not be John's #1 priority - it is obviously not his only priority and my guess is that these other media opportunites of his greatly detract from the cultivation of TD blogs.
  17. Johan's election chances have always been small, although it will be a major disappointment if he gets kicked off the ballot right away. I honestly don't see how he could drum up enough votes to ever have a legitimate chance. Could Sid stump for him?
  18. Johan had no recognizable or memorable that anyone outside of Minnesota would remember. Johan did nothing to make a lasting impression on anybody outside of Twins fans. He did have a no hitter with the Mets, however, that is just a blip on the radar screen. Johan has no "it factor" and that obviously is hurting him on HOF ballots. Also, no postseason success hurts his chances. Joe will be interesting when he is on the ballot. Yes, a Gold Glove at first base would be a nice feather in the cap and improve his HOF chances. Does Joe have a shot at 3000 hits?
  19. 'Dude', this would be cool I just don't see it happening. Also, if it does happen that most likely means no starting pitcher of significance was signed so that would be a bummer. I would like to yell "DUDE" at Target Field every time Duda came to the plate, though.
  20. Kinley has pictures of the Boy Wonders in compromising positions.
  21. Barry Bonds should never be inducted. Yes to Johan Santana.
  22. Sign Darvish if you can and take your best shot at a title with Sano, Buxton, Dozier, Rosario, Kepler, etc. All this fretting about what will happen in four years is for the Boy Wonders to worry about. As a fan and Twins supporter for many years, I want to see them roll the dice now. It isn't too often a Minnesota franchise really goes for it. Why not now?
  23. The moves have been underwhelming so far. A guy who might not play in 2018 and a 41 year old closer? Not exactly setting the world on fire when looked at from a casual fan perspective. Speaking to the guys at work they are rolling their eyes and saying same old Twins. Landing Yu Darvish would put a nice bow on the offseason. I am trusting the Boy Wonders have a few tricks left up their sleeve for this offseason.
  24. I don't remember, yet am assuming that Colon's charm and popularity played at least a small part in him getting that Cy Young over Johan. Was the "Big Sexy" nonsense a thing yet when this happened? Johan should be in the HOF (just barely, though).
