  1. No truer words ever spoken. When I need a good laugh, I often go back to the Darvish meltdown thread.
  2. Spend some time on the Cubbie Board. It's pretty widespread the window is prematurely closing due to King Theo's lousy free agent signings. He would most likely take board favorite Nick Anderson even up, if the Rays would pick up the remainder of Darvish's contract.
  3. You haven't convinced me. I recall you inferred the Pohlads should spent like drunken sailors because their money was all inherited.
  4. When I first joined the board and suffered thru the less than heady days of 2013 and 2014, I knew when our favorite team started to win, TD would start attracting the best and brightest. This has come to pass.
  5. Off the top of my head, we picked up 4 quality arms at the 2018 trade deadline and one more at the 2019 deadline. All but a handful of teams are bad at selecting and developing starting pitching. No clue how the Indians do it.
  6. For some time now, free agency has become the market of last resort, as far as pitching goes. This was further amplified the past 2 off-seasons. If we never sign another free agent pitcher, you'll never see me yielding a pitchfork. As far as bullpen arms go, we have clearly won the numbers game going forward. Still need to accumulate additional starting pitching prospects. In the not too distant future, we will be forced to deal current stars we can't or won't extend. This will most likely enable us to win the starting pitchers numbers game.
  7. I don't care how much it costs or how they do it, I would bring back Odorizzi and Pineda. Thorpe and board scapegoat Perez can fill out the rotation until Graterol is ready. I hate to even think it, but I believe Gibson is done.
  8. I don't want to break any hearts, but Cron will be manning 1B to start next season, keeping it warm for Kirilloff. Larnach's appearance is dependent on the significant haul we receive for Rosario. There is no timetable for this move and a stop gap may be employed. Regardless of what you may read, these FO guys are good and have large market team written all over them. Think what they could do with an owner who knew his way around a ballpark and didn't spend all his time counting pennies.
  9. Take a look at the most money Reinsdorf has ever spent on a free agent. It's by far the least of any large market team. Also, I understand King Theo did it, but I'm very leary of any large market team which chooses to go into a full rebuild, instead of taking out the checkbook.
  10. Our favorite team could win the Central in their sleep next season. The blockbuster trade or trades, everyone is lusting for, will happen in the next year or so, and involves moving at least 2 of Berrios, Rosario, Sano, and Buxton. Those we can not extend will provide at least one mythical ace, with an outside chance of two.
  11. I agree. I think we're winning the numbers game, when you include the bullpen arms in the minors.
  12. Get the pitchforks ready. I'm guessing we see Littell and/or O'Rourke before Graterol come play-off time.
  13. There never was any chance we could retain the Core of 4 plus Rosario and Berrios. I always thought the least likely to be retained was the pitcher and Rosario was the most easily replaced. I would guess at some point in time we extend either Buxton or Sano, and deal the other. We will have the ammunition to deal for that elusive, mythical ace in the next year or so.
  14. Baseball is a game of inches. Page after page of moves our favorite team needed to make, then our winning the Central is cemented by an injury to Jose Ramirez.
  15. I expect he will be used in enough low leverage situations, to be ready to make the staff next season out of ST.
  16. What was the asking price for Minor? It makes little sense to be unhappy we didn't trade for a player when we have no idea what the asking price was. No way I would have dangled Buxton, Lewis or Kirilloff in any trade. Don't fall for the Pale Hose hype. Reinsdorf is even worse than the Pohlads. Having talented prospects is one thing, actually winning is another. I wouldn't think I would have to explain that on this board of all places.
  17. If Graterol comes up to see the Big City and to meet his future teammates, I have no problem with that. I can see giving him throw away innings. Anything more than that, we have others more ready to perform in a playoff situation.
  18. Dyson and Romo, plus player "X" from our farm system, stabilize the pen and we win the Central going away.
