  1. YES! Give the kid a chance to shine.
  2. I would like to have seen Polanco again today, just to keep the infield unit together-- but boy, you sure can't argue with 14 at bats...
  3. The reality with Vargas, I believe, is that he's a little too close in body-type and playing style to The One That Got Away, for comfort. I think people have a real fear of missing out on what he could become. Additionally, a switch-hitting, power-minded DH is a pretty sweet luxury if he's firing on all cylinders.
  4. Now that's some piranha ball!
  5. My biggest concern here is that the players rolled their eyes upon hearing the news. This may be detail added by the writer, or even a misinterpretation of the situation. But, dissent in the ranks is a much larger problem than not choosing the correct 25 to go north, which can and will likely be rectified in the coming weeks. It tells me that the players are already tired of the decision making process here-- or they're tired of the lack of consistency in these choices. Or simply, they've lost respect.
  6. DanSAntigone would have been a good name for me to use, but I missed the opportunity. Maybe someday.
  7. That was beautiful and oh so sad. It lacked the DanSan's Oedipal tendencies towards Molitor and Falvine but I suspect that's Act II?
  8. The question is how much of his inconsistency stemmed from poor coaching he received from the Twins organzation?
  9. It does feel good to know that sometimes the futility isn't our problem.*warmfuzzies*
  10. Now I'm speculating on how many homers Park had to have hit this ST to have been considered for the opening day roster?
  11. I assume there is some hyper, next-level thought process here that none of us are privvy to yet. The notion that Mauer will begin to play a bit less this season takes a nose dive when you realize both of his back-ups are now in Rochester.
  12. I guess the plan is to let Park continue to rake against AAA pitching to prove he's not just picking apart low-level, late-inning, spring training guys. I assume Vargas and Park will split DH and 1B duties in Rochester and we'll see one of them sooner than later.
  13. Well- I'm a bit stunned by the lack of Park and the inclusion of DanSan. But here we are...
  14. That's gonna be some great drama...
  15. Right, Szymborski's comment doesn't make sense for that very reason.
  16. How many wins above replacement is a last name worth?
  17. Maybe it'll allow one of the kids to get a chance? EDIT- Again, totally hypothetical.
  18. 2 bombs- Sandoval and Bogarts off of Ervin. I just have this weird hunch that Ervin will start these season on the DL. This is totally just a weird vibe I get-- but it's the type of futility that usually ends up with a post game press release that he's been placed on the DL and that someone has been recalled from Minor League Camp.
  19. My sense is that "racist" isn't the term to use here-- just sort of culturally intolerant or even xenophobic. When he refers to "Us," he's referring white, black, and latin decent (with Team USA being the agreed upon "Us"). If he had made these remarks about another MLB team, no one would think twice about it-- but since it's culture versus culture, it becomes a much larger conversation. I wish he hadn't said it-- only because it does come off as ignorant and silly. I for one, love the image of Kirby circling the base paths with his fist clenched and screaming. Many of the most iconic moments in the history of the sport are the result of "showboating." It's part of the fun. I also welcome those who don't wish to do it-- but let's not ostracize those get excited when something exciting happens.
  20. Not sure you've got the hands for a starting job with them... sorry... EDIT- They only want grinders... :-/
  21. That all seems very broad-stroke to me. Suzuki wasn't a good defensive catcher by any stretch of the imagination. Mauer's health isn't really in question any more than anyone else on the team's is.
  22. A lot about Romero early in camp but the buzz seems to have died down as other stories have jumped into the lime light. Anyone get an eye on him this spring and have any continued assessments of how he fared?
  23. It's an inches game at that point.
