  1. I'm so glad Margot was batting there instead of Julien. Twins Baseball is brilliant!
  2. Twins need a better analytical department. Now Margot comes up two more times to face a righty, rather than have Julien face a lefty once and righty twice. Mind boggling stupidity. I'm looking forward to when Falvey is fired.
  3. Twins are so banal about splits even when the numbers don't favor it. It's infuriating.
  4. "He also has a propensity to be a tad emotional on the mound, so he has always been susceptible to an ambush." This statement is not rooted in reality. Please...
  5. I strongly disagree. The minor leaguers were able to get recognition as a union with minimal pain because of the MLBPA, not in spite of it. The MLBPA has done a great job as a union helping players who haven't reached free agency - arbitration, helping to put more pain on teams who manipulate service time, adding bonus pools for pre-arb players, etc. Any effort to add a salary cap will hurt players of all career stages, as it will mean players are paid less in free agency and arbitration - more so than adding a salary floor would help, and the owners won't agree to the latter without the former. What bothers me the most about this saga is that Harry Marino, a lawyer who does not work for the union (and was let go because he didn't work well with other people in the union) is now trying to take over the organization by intrigue, and is believed to support initiatives that the owners want? Something isn't adding up, and it would be terrible if the union went this direction.
  6. He should be placed on administrative leave until the investigation is complete, like MLB has done for other investigations in the past. Of course, I'd be shocked if MLB took any action against him because he's their biggest money maker right now. I find it extremely hard to believe that Ohtani wasn't involved, with the shifting stories and amount of money that was being bet.
  7. I know two people who have said this to me - one a position player from the Dodgers and another pitcher from Cleveland. I also could find no source to support the report that Dodgers players were polled - just hearsay from one journalist. My point is teams aren't signing him because of PR - not because of what kind of teammate he is. Gerrit Cole has had a lot of accusations of being a terrible teammate as well and he'd be snatched up immediately if he was available for league minimum. What I find odd is that players who were actually convicted of abuse like Marcell Ozuna and Aroldis Chapman are still around the league, so it seems like some kind of double-standard is in play here, and I suspect it is because Bauer has criticized Manfred. Even Miguel Sano, who had an accusation of sexual abuse against him, was able to get a Non-roster invite this spring.
  8. This simply isn't true. I know people who have played in the Major Leagues with Trevor and they've all told me they loved being his teammate. Others, including Mookie Betts, have publicly stated this as well. The reason he has remained unsigned is because teams are worried about the negative reaction from fans if they signed him - it has nothing to do with his abilities as a player or how good of a teammate he is.
  9. Not really a reasonable comparison between the NHL and NBA vs MLB. The NHL salary cap is approximately half of what the 2023 Twins' payroll, so they can afford to have less TV revenue. Another thing to keep in mind is the demographics where baseball is struggling - young people - most who don't watch local TV. If you want to increase your fan base, affordable streaming without blackout restrictions is the correct route. Finally, increasing the percentage of revenue devoted to payroll is a terrible idea. There are teams who are in debt right now because they did this and are not going to be able to field long-term competitive teams because of it.
  10. Well, work is funner than this. I think I'll get back to that.
  11. The Twins have no excuses for starting Castro in a playoff game. They could have traded for anyone.
  12. Yep, ran it exactly like how you're taught. Half step, freeze, go.
  13. Same story all season. This offense has been painful to watch all year. We're lucky we've gotten this far!
  14. umpires have gotten worse as the night goes along, yikes
  15. Very difficult for an umpire to not get fooled by this. That's why most the good catchers set their target, put the glove down by the ground, and then bring it up to receive the ball. Jeffers holds the target the entire time, so misses a lot of calls like that one, I've noticed.
  16. Am I the only one who has been scratching their head at Jeffers's defense all season?
  17. Two thoughts: Umpire's zones favor Jays, and Polanco looks brutal at third.
  18. I've seen a few of his starts, and have the opinion that that he's nowhere near where Berrios was as a prospect, based off the following: His fastball is in the range of 88-93 mph, sitting at 90-91. It's a below average pitch. His changeup has good depth and fade, and tunnels well off his fastball, sitting in the low to mid 80s. It's an above average pitch. His curveball has really good vertical movement, but it's easily recognizable out of his hand. It has the potential to be a plus pitch, as it can get swings and misses, but for now it's getting knocked around too much to be anything better than average. His slider sits in the low to mid 80s, and he seems to struggle with commanding it. It's a below average pitch. His mechanics are very concerning. His front hip gets raised too high above his pelvic plane in his delivery, which results in his plant foot getting down late and his hips staying closed too long, resulting in poor hip/shoulder separation, an inefficiency that hurts his velocity. Additionally, his back foot leaves the rubber too early, and he has no ankle eversion that you see in the most efficient throwers such as Gerrit Cole and Jacob deGrom. His throwing arm action is too long, with his hand extending well below his back hip and having a wild spiraling effect that will likely lead to injury. He does a good job of keeping his scapulars and arm on plane at the point of his release, but with his exaggerated over the top delivery, to accomplish this he needs to curl his spine towards the first base side of the rubber, which combined with his glove side opening up too early causes him to fall off towards first base and away from the target, which is another cause for the lower than expected velocity. He's well filled out for his frame, which is promising, but with as many mechanical inefficiencies as he has, it's going to be a long road ahead before he can reach his full potential, in my opinion.
  19. The latest research in player development right now suggests that the most important factors relating to pitcher injuries are biomechanics and recovery process between throwing. From what I've heard from people in the industry is that the Twins are way behind on this...
  20. Rob Manfred's MLB is a joke. Like we needed a more offense friendly environment LMAO.
