    To elaborate more on Plouffe, this is pretty much on par of what we've seen out of him his whole career. I've accepted this out of Plouffe, and is one of the main reasons I only want to offer arbitration this off-season over a multi-year extension. I'll include some splits since 2012: 2012: June .327/.391/.735 11 HR 21 RBI July .302/.343/.476 3 HR 9 RBI August .161/.232/.226 1 HR 7 RBI - bad September too 2013: May .292/.365/.477 2 HR 13 RBI June .321/.351/.528 3 HR 13 RBI July .189/.223/.300 3 HR 8 RBI August .196/.264/.330 2 HR 4 RBI - rebounded for a nice September 2014: April .304/.409/.478 1 HR 19 RBI May .204/.256/.381 4 HR 14 RBI July .219/.265/.375 2 HR 7 RBI Do you want to give a streaky hitter like this a multi-year extension? I certainly don't.

    Plouffe has shown year over year that he's a streaky hitter. We're witnessing the annual slump now, and hopefully the high points make up for the slumps. Mauer was a questionable #3 hitter even in the 90+ loss days, and this season it's painful to see how slow his bat has become. However like others have mentioned, it's not like we have a lot of options to fix it this year. Hopefully Vargas can wake up and seize the opportunity.

    God bless you Hrbowski for being the lone Escobar defender. I don't agree with you, but still respect your opinion. Even Christian Ponder had apologists until the bitter end of his Vikings career. Escobar needs one person on his side on TD.

    I'm too young to know this.... Tim Belcher. Anything to write home to mom about? Also, Delmon Young ranked #18?? Yikes.

    Tulo very well could be traded this season, especially if they're out of the race for the playoffs early. They have built their entire roster around Tulo and Carlos Gonzalez. My opinion, and what do I know, is they will demand at least one of the following: Buxton, Sano, Berrios + other prospects to rebuild. I just don't think it's realistic because there is no evidence that the Twins have ever made that type of trade before. The Rockies as usual desperately need pitching. And it seems the natural fit would be a team like the Mets who could include Syndergaard as the key piece in a trade.

    Looking back at your original post Mike, I think we're on the same page. We're for sure talking about trading the same type of players this year (depth 1B/OF being your example, bench players and bullpen arms being mine) If we can get anything of substance that can help us this year for those players, sure I am with you. I don't know what you could get for them.

    Yes you are correct, the Wild went out and bought the 2 best FA's out there in 2012. They also continued to build the minor system and now you see today the young ones making an impact. The Twins have done that as well the best way they can in an uncapped FA market with Nolasco (whether we like it or not) and Ervin. The Wild got to this point 3 years later without selling the farm, and I'd prefer for the Twins to follow that model of not selling the farm this season. In 2016 and beyond, my mindset will change. Let's say we make the playoffs this year, get swept in round 1. I would hope we have our core intact and fill in the new guys (Buxton, Sano, Berrios) where they can. If we are still a position or pitcher short of being real contenders, by all means necessary get the job done. I hope I made my opinion clear that I'm willing to let it be in 2015. 2016 and beyond it's on to be WS contenders.

    I feel like we're at the point with the Twins of the 2012-13 Minnesota Wild. For the Twins, after 4 straight 90 loss seasons, finally sees the light at the end of the tunnel into contention. I do not agree with the "buy now" group when it comes to trade deadline deals. I would much rather have a 5 year window of being contenders over a 1 year let's win right now mentality. Yes, a lot can happen where our prospects get hurt, never develop, etc. But we've done a good job of filling the cupboards in the Minors with future options and fill ins on the MLB club. If anything I am more on the "selling" side at the trade deadline for this season, but not blockbuster type deals (a bullpen arm, Pinto, a bench player is what I'm thinking) After this season, we reassess what we have, what we need, and be more aggressive, whether through trades or free agency, in order to remain playoff contenders for not just the short term, but long term.

    I just took a quick glance at the 1998 draft results, as Ryan Mills was brought up in the article. Obviously hindsight is 20/20 but there were a couple of interesting names taken after #6... Carlos Pena went #10 to the Rangers, our old friend Adam Everett went #12 to the Red Sox, Jeff Weaver #14 to the Tigers, and C.C. Sabathia #20 to the Indians just to name a couple.

    I would have never guessed in a million years that Mike F'in Pelfrey would have put together this kind of streak pitching for the Twins. Since he's been doing so well, does that mean he will remain on the team for the remainder of the season? Or do you think he will still be shopped around in July?

    Nice little cheap shot from TR that we didn't have a true ace during most of the playoff years. How quickly he forgot about Johan Santana.. I'm not overly pleased with TR's performance since his official return to GM. However I will keep quiet as long as we're competitive and contending like we are now. He's made clear expectations that he wants this team to be in the post season. And if that doesn't happen, he should be on the hot seat to lose his job.

    Seems like relief pitchers in general are so variable year in and year out. I'm glad we found Boyer on a good year. Not sure if he's a consistent sub 3 ERA guy year in and year out, but for the 2015 season he's a good asset to have in our bullpen.

    Definitely if they want to have any of our prospects. If the big dogs come into play like the Dodgers, Yankees, Red Sox, etc. they won't even flinch at the $22.5 million price tag for Hamels.

    As much as I want to see Nolasco off of this team, that is way too steep of a price for Hamels. Having a guy like him and Mauer making a combined $46 million for the next 5 years won't work out well for the Twins when Buxton and the other young prospects are due for a pay day.

    I agree, we are a year too early on the Plouffe trade conversation. However, I am not on board with discussing long-term extension with him either. 2016 will be an interesting season to see where Sano winds up fitting into the lineup.

    Being a fly ball pitcher on a team (A's) with the biggest outfield & foul ball territory in baseball.

    There's no need to create a log jam for the future. Offer him arbitration this offseason, and I'll be excited to see Plouffe vs. Sano at 3rd base in Ft. Meyers next March.

    I'm very excited to see when the Twins will bring up Berrios. I don't think I'm any different than other Twins fans when I thought Meyer was the consensus #1 SP in the farm system. Berrios has continued to develop quickly, and from the sounds of it, might be the first true ace of the rotation we've had since Johan.

    We have 3 starters in the rotation that I am confident with - Gibson, May, and never thought I would say this.... Mike Pelfrey. The synopsis on Hughes is convincing that he can turn it around, but overall I think it's going to be a down year for him compared to last year. With Nolasco... The Twins should throw him a party if he makes it through 6 innings.

    Much like others have mentioned, I am not sold on Arcia as an OF option in the future. Ideally I'd like to see Rosario-Buxton-Hicks for the future. Arcia seems to be too much of a head case this early in his career. The bat potential is there, but the guy shows no desire to be a serviceable OF. He could be a DH option, but we also have Vargas, Hunter, and Escobar who can fill that role. I don't know if Arcia just grew a big ego from hitting 20+ bombs in his rookie year, but he is certainly not consistent enough at the plate to forgive his bone headed mistakes in the field.

    It has to be some bullpen arms that gets the call from TR right? Stauffer's not lighting the world on fire right now... Also, has Alex Meyer completely fallen off the map for a potential promotion this year? Nolasco's spot in the rotation should not be set in stone.

    Unlike Byron Buxton who I am all for an aggressive approach to get him to the majors ASAP, I am completely fine with this conservative approach with Hicks. Maybe I would feel differently if the Twins have not already given him extended time and opportunities with the team over the last 2 seasons. He may only be a AAAA type of player who never really gets it figured out at the MLB level. I'd let him be the star of AAA for the time being, and if he continues to play this for a few more months, I'd like to see him in August/September
