  1. This was a good litmus test for the playoffs and I'm not impressed... Over the next couple of weeks they get to pad their stats against terrible teams with bad pitching. They won't get that luxury come October, and will square off against Strasburg types every night. Right now they don't appear to be up for the challenge.
  2. Concur. If the people at the top remain the same, they should be able to identify the next Shelton, Rowson, Wes Johnson, etc.
  3. Not that I know the candidates out there, but it's a good resume builder to turn around a franchise like the Twins who were light years behind other teams in analytics/player development. Imagine what they could do with double the budget they're working with.
  4. Falvey and Levine are an interesting duo to comment about... Not because the Twins will be "lucky" if they leave. The Red Sox will be a very attractive job opening. I'm sure a couple more will be available in the next couple of months. Falvey's an east coast guy... Dun dun dun!
  5. He will finish this year with 87 games played, 3.2 bWAR, and 2.7 fWAR. He is a special player. But my god, it's like groundhog's day over and over. Gotta find a way for him to be healthy for 120+ games.
  6. The time to get Cole was 2 years ago when he was under arbitration. The Pohlads will never back up the Brinks truck for a free agent pitcher.
  7. Thanks for the clarification. In that case, Big Mike is back on my priority list to resign.
  8. Ouch. Big Mike was my #1 priority to resign before this development. Now I don't know if I would sign him at all.
  9. Not sure they can win a play in game now, let alone a 5 or 7 game series... Disappointing.
  10. I don't understand why they aren't shutting Berrios down for 2-3 weeks. Get his mind and mechanics back on track with simulated games... Then give him a tune up start before the playoffs. Not much is gained by continuing to throw him out there every 5-6 days.
  11. Could be. After the last couple of winters I have no idea how to gauge free agent values. All I know is I want Big Mike and Odorizzi back for sure... I am willing to go up to 4 years in order to beat out the big market teams for both.
  12. I typed that with the assumption the player declines the QO. If they accept it's all a moot point.
  13. As I think more about this, QOs could be used as a tool for mid market teams like the Twins. It gives them the winter to negotiate a long term deal since most teams are now unwilling to give up the draft pick. Sucks for the player involved, as there is risk of them sitting out until June... But I would hope it's used in good faith to negotiate something long term with them. To answer your last question, yes, I would give up a 1st round pick for Pineda, no doubt. Probably for Odorizzi too. Gibson is a no.
  14. Depends if more teams will try to be competitive or not. I suspect we'll see teams continue to develop their own pitching and fail before giving up draft picks.
  15. Odorizzi would be doing himself a disservice if he declined the QO. Last year's debacle should raise red flags to anyone about to receive a QO... I'm sure he doesn't want to sit around until June when the QO draft pick compensation ends.
  16. Both Bateman and Tyler Johnson will play on Sundays... Best WR corps since Eric Decker and whoever else played with him.
  17. Maybe that's the key for Duffey to keep pitching well, to not talk about it. In that case... Shh! Don't ruin this!
  18. I agree he should be able to get hitters out either way. Seems like the new pitching coach messed with his mechanics to cause this loss in control. I don't know how else to explain the increase from 3 BB/9 to 5 BB/9 in 2018 to 2019.
  19. I hope they stretch him out to start again. I hated that he was moved to the pen in the first place.
  20. Harper was a fun story at the start of the year. But the gig is up... He's been figured out. When is Littell's 10 day stint in Rochester over?
  21. Neat. I was commenting about Tom's video showing every one of Graterol's pitches from this one outing. Nothing more, nothing less.
  22. Yeah he's got a little too much Sam Deduno in his game for my liking... Meaning I don't think even he knows where the ball is going once it leaves his finger tips.
