  1. Good grief, give the 20 game winner stuff a break.
  2. If the deal were to be Span and Benson, I think you do it no doubt, as long as it doesn cost us Span plus a highly regarded prospect, I think we do it. Then you sign Marcum and bring back Baker on an incentive laden deal and suddenly you aren't bad SP-wise.Hopefully you get Gibson/Hicks/Arcia ready to roll by May/June. I think if you intend to trade for Shields, you need to extend him right away. If he were to pitch for us for only 2 years, I wouldn't really consider the deal to be a win for Minnesota.
  3. I think a lot of people are forgetting how important this lasik surgery is. Dozier will probably automatically turn into a .330/.420 type hitter, I mean look at the drastic impact it had on Span when he got it!!!!
  4. It would be very percolating to trade away Span, Willingham and Parmalee and let Arcia, Hicks and Revere roam the TF outfield. Would be able to bring in some very valuable pitchers if the Twins were willing to deal those 3 players. At the end of the day, the Twins need to realize we can't win with our current pitchers and moves NEED to be made to improve this team's win/loss total. It would be nice if we could possible trade Span/Morneau for some pitching prospects and keep Parmalee at 1B and Willingham at LF/DH but I'm just not sure we will be able to get enough in return for just those 2.
  5. The goal this offseason has to be to improve the starting rotation. If we can add a Shields or Josh Johnson type pitcher without selling absoluting everything, then we have to do it. If we have to give up Span to get him then so be it. I honestly think Hicks might be ready to take over in CF by mid season next year. Revere could handle things in CF until then. If we could get Shields or Johnson and then add someone like Edwin Jackson, we would be looking pretty decent SP-wise. I'm guessing Morneau could be traded this offseason if the Twins want to free up some payroll for SP.
  6. Step 1: Trade Morneau, Span and Willingham this offseason. -These three players are nice pieces to a Championship squad, but unfortunately the Twins do not have the other pieces to win one right now. Therefore, they need to set themselves back a year or two and let some younger guys develop. Trading Morneau, Span and Willingham not only gets them Starting Pitching in return, but it also allows the Twins to save money at a few positions and allow young players a chance to prove themselves. Chris Parmalee will get a chance to man 1B at a reduced price. The 3 outfield positions would be an all out battle royal between Revere, Mastroiani, Hicks, Benson, Arcia, Carson. They could use some of this freed up money to add another impact bat like they did in the OF with Willingham this year. Step 2: Add Starting Pitching - The Twins WILL have some money to spend on an elite Starting Pitcher, now who that is, is the question mark. Step 3: Gardenhire's time is up -I like Gardy, I really do, but it's time for a change. I don't believe he has lost the team or anything along those lines, but I believe a managerial shakeup would do some good things for this team as a whole. Step 4: Find a SS.
  7. As long as he isn't Delmon/Kubel/Cuddyer/Willingham I'd say he isn't too bad defensively. I would expect average to slightly above average defense from Arcia.
  8. Would this be fair? 1. Sano 2. Buxton 3. Arcia 4. Hicks 5. Gibson
  9. What are the Twins going to do with him this offseason? If memory serves me correct he has an option that we will obviously decline...What type of contract could he expect to receive to stay and rehab?
  10. Truly one of the few things to get excited about right now other than the trade deadline.
  11. This. It's going to be fun in a few years to watch young speedy outfielders with pretty exceptional arms (sans Revere) at TF. I believe the days of the fleet footed Willinghams,Youngs and Cuddyers in the OF are nearly over. I think people in the organization are starting to realize that oufield defense and pitching need to be two of our strengths at TF after playing there for a couple of seasons now. I guess if the pitching improved(k-rates/gb-rates) then the outfield defense wouldn't be such an issue. By 2015 we could see any number of these OF'ers patrolling the grounds at TF, which would be exciting. (Span, Revere, Hicks, Arcia, Benson, Buxton, + the possibility of Rosario returning to the OF still exists.) Personally, I would love to see Revere/Hicks/Benson soon, and by 2016 the idea of Benson/Buxton/Hicks makes me salivate.
  12. It was a great 6 years. Thanks RP for all the work ya did to keep it going over the years. We had a lot of laughs over there and most of them I'll forget, but never will I forget itstimetogetreadys meltdown. Of course, byto.com gets some serious recognition from Gardy in his post game chat the day before it is shutdown...I knew he lurked our site for ideas. Is there any chance we can just add another forum sub-page for BYTO'ers?
  13. Mauer will be fine, just simmer.
  14. I'd send Maloney down, no questions asked. Move Swarzak into the Long Relief Role.
  15. Wow, i'm surprised Doumit isn't at catcher today after a night game. Mostly I was hoping for this so Mauer would catch both Friday and Saturday when I'm there.
  16. Davey boy, I love it when you help the TD readers see the light as you have done for me so many times. I think we will see BIG PARM in RF tonight. Span CF Carroll SS Mauer 1B Morneau DH Willingham LF Doumit C Valencia 3B Parmalee RF Plouffe 2B Just my prediction for tonight's lineup.
  17. I remember what I paid for Opening Day tix a few years back....not that.
  18. IF Morneau takes over 1B and Parmelee isn't hitting at the ML level, Parmelee will be headed back to Rochester and one of the C's will be getting called up.
  19. Who is better defensively where? On days where the outfield is Willingham-Span-Doumit how many late inning defensive subs do we make to be as good defensively in the outfield as possible? What i'm really asking is Plouffe better in RF than Doumit and will Gardy put Revere in LF for Willingham late in games? Will Gardy be willing to make those two moves to get better defense in the OF late in games?
  20. C: Mauer, Doumit 1B: Morneau, Parmelee 2B: Casilla, Hughes 3B: Valencia, Burroughs SS: Carrol, OF: Revere,Span, Plouffe(SS), Willingham SP: Liriano,Pavano,Baker, Blackburn, Marquis RP: Capps(CL), Perkins(SU), Burton(MRP), Swarzak(MRP), Maloney(Long), Duensing(LOOGY), Waldrop(MRP) EDIT: only thing that could change IMO is Burroughs for either Florimon/Hollimon for MI depth. First MI call up: Dozier First OF call up: Benson First P call up : Burnett
  21. The question is why would he be a utility player in Minnesota? I'm not crazy and I don't think he is the next big thing ala Tom Powers, but I don't think he would be terrible compared to what we have slated to be the starters. There is not reason why Dozier couldn't get 500 PA between 2B/SS. Carroll is not limited to just SS/2B.
