  1. So because Mauer was big it only hurt Gibson's pitches? That doesn't make sense to me, this would mean that Mauer hurts ALL of our pitchers. That problem is gone, Mauer is no longer a catcher. By that notion, all of our pitcher's stats should go up and that is just not true. If that's the case, get a smaller catcher, all of the ones I have listed are that. Which young pitchers are you talking about? We only have 8 pitchers on the 40-man that are under the age of 28 and of those 8, I only give Gibson, Ibarra, May, Pressley, Tonkin and Thielbar a chance of being successful. If you want Fryer helping our young pitchers, send him down to AA. He isn't going to get selected in the Rule 5, we will have that option.
  2. Please stop, Fryer will not be selected in the Rule 5.
  3. Part of me hopes what you said Shane, the other part hopes that Fryer quits baseball to become a janitor at his hometown school district.
  4. An excellent defender at catcher is a luxury item for teams that can score runs and are willing to sacrifice offense for defense because they can. We don't have the "luxury" of that problem. We need a catcher that is going to produce a bit. I'd take a year of AJ, to let Pinto tinker with his defense for a portion of this season and then take over. Is this board going to be okay heading into the season with our catchers in Minneapolis being Fryer, Pinto and Doumit? I'd be very opposed to that. I'd much rather go AJ/Doumit/Herrmann. - Pinto for Herrmann at midpoint or when defense is plausible. AJ could be worth something at the deadline as well.
  5. I put him in my blueprint. I'd like him, not a ton, but better than Pedro.
  6. Yeah, sorry I'm a lazy poster. I'm still transitioning over from BYTO. Thank you.
  7. I can't see Kepler being selected in the Rule 5 either, not sure how someone could keep him on the roster all year long, same with Wimmers. Although, Wimmers is more likely to get selected in my eyes.
  8. He isn't going to get selected in the Rule 5 Draft...Absolutely no reason to do this move right now, as you stated, timing is odd. The only thing this moves says to me is, were fine with our current catching options.
  9. Sort of. Blockbuster contract, then we trade him for Gomez, Humber, Guerra and some other schmuck.
  10. TR teaching moment of the day. Remember kids, Fryer has some positives and Pinto had a GOOD, not great month. Tear down the young kid who actually played very well, build up the vet with no skill set.
  11. I am with you Shane. Not sure how the Twins can consider Fryer to be a legitimate option at Catcher. JUST SHOW YOUR COLORS TR. Cut Fryer and start hunting for a catcher in FA, for a real baseball playing catcher.
  12. I think we should offer Santana the same deal we offered him 5 years ago...
  13. Now it's been 20..... And 21..... And so on.
  14. IF we get Nolasco, do we have enough chips to get 2 of either Hughes, arroyo, kazmir?
  15. Rosenthal said Twins are making strong push for Nolasco... 8 minutes ago on twitter
  16. I just don't see how the FO can see this as a move that is improving the roster. I realize they don't consider this a blockbuster either, but...
  17. Oh, they want a SS? Well shoot, that takes us out of it.
  18. I like the Samardzija idea, he and Mauer could throw around the pigskin on off days as well. I think we would have to up the offer a tish to get that done.
  19. Oh, they want a SS? Well shoot, that takes us out of it.
  20. I don't believe we can trade Stewart til June. Rosario+Thorpe+Perkins+Hicks would probably get it done, no? I wouldn't do that trade.
  21. The Twins and baseball in general do Rookie "initiation" the right way IMO. Baseball isn't a sport completely filled with testoterone loaded egotistical meat-heads. The Twins have the rookies do a dress up day in a costume, completely harmless. They also have the rookie bullpen guy carry a lady-like or child-like back pack to the bullpen. These are in no way, shape or form considered bullying or hazing. They are helping the young player learn about humility and welcoming him onto the team. I personally think it's awesome and would love to make 300k+ and dress up for one day in a costume and carry a "Pretty Little Pony" backpack out to Glen Perkins. Obviously, these are the only things we see or hear about, but I can say quite confidently that a baseball locker room and a football locker room are quite different atmospheres. Can anyone imagine Brad Radke slandering Torii Hunter when he came up to the Twins? I can't. Blasphemy.
  22. So he didn't want to do things their way then? Isn't that clear enough for us to move on? We don't know what went on while he was coming up? Do you actually believe the Twins will continue to put up with Sano's shenanigans if he doesn't start to make an effort to improve them? What happens to a HS kid if he expresses attitude and unwillingness to do things the coaches way? Cut or doesn't play. Same thing in college. Same thing in professional sports. We have seen the Twins do this before folks, usually trading players who didn't fit the system, Garza, Lohse come to mind quickly. Then there are players who acted like punks and learned from there talking to, Morneau, comes to my mind. I guess I don't fault them for wanting players who want to do things the way they want them done. Dave your point is, the twins were good, but could've been better with Ortiz.. Maybe you are wrong and he would've caused more friction than good... Who knows?
  23. I'm not suggesting the FO was all about teaching him a lesson, just giving a reason why he wasn't going to be signed long term. Perhaps these are two different arguments.. It's either the Twins didn't realize his full potential or they didn't foresee a future for him in Minnesota for one of the possible reasons I listed? What do I know though.
  24. Dave, pretend we didn't release him. How many more years would've we had him? 1? 2? We were operating under a tight budget like someone else said, the only thing you should be wishing is that we would've got something in return, because he was never going to be signed long-term. He didn't have the big numbers at the time, he could only DH, he wasn't the fan favorite and he had upset management.
  25. Jack, thanks for being a part of Twins Daily. Why do the Twins hold certain qualities or skills, if you will, so near and dear to their heart when there are statistics out there that prove otherwise. I'm just going off the top of my head, Drew Butera. The front office put a ton of weight on his "ability to call/catch a good game" and chose to overlook his career .500 OPS. When a defensive-oriented player is struggling to this extent offensively, do you step in ever or in Butera's case, did you step in and say that his defense is no where near outweighing his lack of offensive production? Is Management willing to completely overlook a players offensive totals if they can "catch the ball?" Nick Punto is another player that comes to mind, Pedro Florimon, etc. This sounds stupid, but have you been able to help the Twins FO forget about things like grit, chemistry, toughness?
