Buxton succeeding back with 'family'
GMinTraining replied to GMinTraining's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Couldn't be much worse than Mauer at the lead off. Besides Bux is too young to write off as a lead off hitter. Way too young. -
Twins Organizational Depth Chart - The Outfield
GMinTraining replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I'm a Walker fanatic and I don't even try to compare Buxton with Walker. Buxton is a phenomenal prospect and will be a star MLB player sooner than later. Each brings a different level of excitement. Both are extra base hit machines. As are Rosario and Kepler when hitting their groove. Walker will only be 24 when the season ends BTW.- 17 replies

Twins Organizational Depth Chart - The Outfield
GMinTraining replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
For me it's about how you define his profile. K's and HRs? Then ok, I agree. If you define it by the numerous times an individual has lead his leagues in HRs, RBIs, Total Bases, and Extra Bases. (3 consecutive years). Then I say, you have no comparable profiles. None. I tend to look at the anomaly side of things. I agree with you though, nothing to lose by giving him a shot. 1 week Terry. 1 week. His defense and throws have improved as well (according to his manager - Quade).- 17 replies

Twins Organizational Depth Chart - The Outfield
GMinTraining replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Fair opinion but....... We also need to look at ball park differentials which is why I like w/OBA and w/RC+. One played High A in Cali League and other in Florida State League. Here is my opinion. I'll let viewers discuss whether it's fair point of view or not? I'd rather look at the only levels in which they played together: 2015 AFL. Palka = .774 OPS and wOBA of .347 and a 108 wRC+ and a 167 ISO Walker = .819 OPS and wOBA of .363 and a 119 wRC+ and a 253 ISO They are 10 days apart in age BTW with Walker the elder. Midwest League (Low A) Walker at 21 years old (2013) and Palka at 22 years of age (2014). Palka = .798 OPS and wOBA of .359 and a 125 wRC+ and a 218 ISO Walker = .845 OPS and wOBA of .373 and a 130 wRC+ and a 248 ISO Even this year in AAA where Walker is struggling with his BA and K's - He owns a [.809 OPS with a wOBA of .360 and a 130 wRC+ and an ISO of .265] This coming with him having a slow start to the season. Maybe he stays slow all year. I don't know. But I know this - These numbers are pretty much who he is EVERY YEAR. Let it be known, I really really like Palka as a prospect too. He would be a great left handed bat in the near future.- 17 replies

Good read on how one of the young players in the system feels about his development and what makes him comfortable. http://www.milb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20160525&content_id=180281068&fext=.jsp&vkey=news_milb&sid=milb

I would tend to agree with you normally, but Walker has hit those same numbers (.314 OBP) every year - Low A - High A - AA - AAA. Easy to imagine he would fail at the MLB level, but he has been as consistent as any player in our system to date. High K's and Production. Every year we say, "won't be able to do it at the next level." I'd like to see him try, if not only for a week.

I tnik most believe he deserves to stay in AAA for a while and continue to get better. It's just great to see him continue to do what he does best. Lead the league in HRs. That Rochester line up is exciting. Fun watching all those guys grow up together.

Josh Whetzel @JoshWhetzel May 20 Adam Brett Walker hit two HRs last night. The first landed in the second balcony from top supposedly! https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Ci7rzbFWgAIt4Qf.jpg A zebra doesn't change his stripes (Good and Bad). Hopefully he can gain a little more consistency on the positive side.

Eddie Rosario: Symptom or Solution?
GMinTraining commented on Steven Buhr's blog entry in SD Buhr/Jim Crikket
Didn't Ploufe just do that (steal 3rd on a shift) the day before and score on a wild pitch? The difference being? -
Eddie Rosario Demoted to Rochester
GMinTraining replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
So easy to blame the prospects. Dig deeper and question how many prospects actually improve after going back down to AAA? They all improve at AAA, but share the same problem once they get back to MLB (consistency). Name the last position prospect to actually benefit from grooming within the Twins minor league system? Parmele Colabello Benson Pinto Hicks Dozier Ploufe Vargas Santana Arcia Sano Buxton Kepler Rosario What has being a top prospect in the Twins system gotten us? Not all those above guys suck. But all those guys have been inconsistent. What we need is a better transition plan for these prospects from AAA to the MLB. Let's not even start on the pitchers................... -
I think your plan is the "PERFECT" plan moving forward Seth. That being said - people can't expect World Series or Bust in 2017. I think it will better prepare those young guys to feed off each other 2017 going forward. The MLB highs and the lows can be experienced through the eyes of young teammates who shared in previous struggles together. Not guys stressing to live up to the expectations of the MLB veterans on the team. It would bring a completely different dynamic to the "NEW Era" of Twins baseball. That dugout is already divided into young guys and vets. At least based on the celebrations I see in the dugout. The heart felt ones anyway. Let the young new leaders emerge together. Bring the young guys up in August and find out who the true leader of the group will be. Don't force it. Great Article!

The Red Wings are one game within 1st place in the IL North. They have won 8 of 10 and the (B & K) new boys in town are major contributors. I hope they let this AAA squad stay together until at least July regardless to how well or poorly the MLB club performs. I would love to see how this squad performs when everybody is clicking on all cylinders (Meyer; Chargois; Rogers; O'Rourke; Wheeler; Milone; Darnel; Buxton; Vargas; Walker; Kepler; Tovar; Murphy; etc.; etc.). Could be fun for the folks of Rochester this summer. Especially if the Polanco's and Masto's make it back down. http://www.democratandchronicle.com/story/sports/2016/05/13/red-wings-cut-down-syracuse-chiefs/84351734/

Berardino: Twins place Milone and Fien on waviers
GMinTraining replied to Puckett34's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
If Mastro is only coming up for a three day lay over and in case someone gets hurt, why not go with the outfielder already on the 40 man (ABW II). He is a better pinch hit option than Mastro. Nobody cares if he sits for 3 or 5 days anyway. He definitely provides more late inning punch. -
http://espn.go.com/blog/st-louis-cardinals/post/_/id/738/eric-fryer-is-the-cardinals-latest-out-of-nowhere-story Great video and article. Happy for him. Twice as many hits as our catchers combined this season (6). Was he considered a defensive guy or offensive bat when with the Twins?

Definitely no die hard fan. 6 games into season? At least give them 15 games before you give up all hope -

AAA won't matter either. The same has been said about Walker at every level. "Wait to see if he can do it at the next level" - Like all prospects, Walker will have to prove it in the majors as well. Like he should. His production is without question the best in the system over the last 3 years. Future probabilities outweigh his production every level. Is what it is!

Do they allow you to bring up an extra pitcher for double headers like they do in the MLB? I would think they would allow 26 guys in MiLB because they have so many double headers in the minors. Berrios - Kepler - and Walker are the 3 youngest players on the team and the only players with multiple minor league championships (Kepler (4) / Walker (4) / Polanco (2). Will it be the youth movement leadership that brings a International League Championship or a veteran leadership that finally brings one to Rochester. 11 of 26 on roster as of today had some MLB experience last year. Can't wait to see which dynamic takes the lead and proves more important?. Championship experience or MLB experience?

Out of curiosity - Who will be the Rochester closer? They have a ton of lefty relievers and all very similar. I would also like to know your guess for opening day line up? [seth; Jeremy; Brandon; Nick; Etc,] What will be the catcher trickle down affect for AAA - AA - High A? Will teams keep 3 catchers?
-
I think Kepler is a stud with the sweetest swing in the organization. If everyone on the MLB team plays as we hope - Who does he replace when he reaches target field? or Who would you like him to replace if everyone else plays to their potential? He's not a 4th outfielder.

Do you think we are holding on to guys we could possibly trade earlier in their careers, because of that fear of losing someone special (ala Ortiz)? We seem to stockpile and lose value on players, while never trading high and end up releasing them anyway at some point...........
-
Good Article linked below In this linked article, David Ortiz talks about how the Twins treated him "Bad" during his time in the system. My questions are: Does Terry Ryan have a fear of making the same mistake again? And if so, will this fear cause him to hold on to Vargas and Arcia longer than expected to ease those fears? Will future hitters like Polanco, Kepler and Walker fall into those fearful decisions until they are considered old for prospects? Does Ortiz value into production (20 HR & 75 RBI) have any relevance on what decisions should be made with players? Why was Ortiz let go again (Lol)? In the article - Ortiz also talks about a lack of communication from powers that be. A reporter should ask prospects the simple question - What have the Twins told you about your future? Lol http://www.startribune.com/at-40-and-near-retirement-big-papi-ortiz-looks-back-on-career/372810781/ Article in MN Star Tribune
