  1. The funny thing about strikeouts is that whenever I talk to former / current MLB players; coaches; about the rise in strikeouts, they all say the same thing: "Who Cares" They are more concerned with contact rate and putting the ball in play with purpose. They all agree that strikeouts are a part of the game and probably won't hold many prospects back anymore. Look at Joey Gallo and the Rangers: 2013 - 37% K Rate - A Ball 2014 - 39% K Rate - AA Ball 2015 - 34% K Rate - AA Ball 2015 - 42% K Rate - MLB (.417 BA - 3 Games w/ 2 HRs) What separates Gallo from a Walker is his BB Rate 14.3% (Career) Walker needs to put more balls in play and he has a chance to be a MLB regular. Walker may never be a Gallo, because he doesn't walk as much, but his run production offensively can be quite similar in the hitting category. His "Particular Set of Skills" are not easily found in most systems.
  2. It's a great thing to have options if your the Twins management
  3. I agree with this article in Puckets Pond yesterday http://puckettspond.com/2015/06/02/minnesota-twins-dont-forget-about-adam-brett-walker/
  4. No Doubt - but like Seth said, there were some solid numbers throughout the system in May. System looking brighter each day. Adam Brett Walker (27-107) .252/.304/.533 (.837) with seven doubles, one triple, seven home runs and 28 RBI. His slash line is right around his career averages too
  5. Brunansky and Molitor can fix him There are a lot of average pitchers in the MLB too. Mistake pitchers as they say. He can feast on those type of pitchers like he has for the last 3 years until he figures it out. Gotta give players a chance to correct mistakes at the big league level at some point and not assume AAA is a substitute classroom. Get Arcia back up there along with Vargas. Just look at Colabello (.374 BA w/Toronto). He was the minor league AAA player of the year and we gave up on him after a bad month. Players learn to get back to what they do best when they are given a chance to adjust and learn. The key is that whatever you do best -Better be worth keeping you around for.
  6. What do you make of Walker and Sano battling for AA home run and RBI lead. Walker currently leads all of AA in both categories and Sano is starting to make his move. Both are showing better plate discipline according to their manager. Do these accomplishments serve well for either of their 2015 aspirations? AAA or September Call Ups.
  7. Gordon could turn out to be like his brother. Out of curiosity, who are some of the picks you've made over the years (1st round) that turned out well for the Twins or whoever else they were drafted for? I think we all suffer from the "No - draft that guy" disease . Our Gut feelings are usually somewhere in the middle of the success graph.
  8. The minor league outfield situation is really looking up. Something will have to give. Look at how many outfielders will have to go on the 40 man roster this year? Arcia Hunter Hicks Rosario Robinson Shafer Hermann Nunez Escobar Kepler Harrison Walker Buxton (just because he's better than everyone else) All these guys (13) have or will be expected to play OF at some point in the MLB.
  9. I am really liking the run production the Lookouts are putting up lately. When they are on they are truly on. Kepler & Buxton have been on fire. Walker and Sano have provided excellent power numbers. The most underrated player has been Harrison who leads his league in 2B. The most consistent player is the same guy who always has remained consistent (Polanco). Turner has actually squared up a lot of pitches lately and could be on the upswing. Does anyone know when Levi Michael is coming back and Dalton Hicks? Two important pieces to maintaining first place.
  10. I was down on Peavy as well and he seems to have improved his all around game. I still want Lee over Peavy, but can not down Peavy because of my wants. Doesn't seem to be a strikeout pitcher like the Berrios and Duffy's on the staff, but does well at getting out of jams (lately).
  11. Walkers bat is becoming more and more noticeable to me with the addition of his latest triple. He has 18 XBH in 32 games. Not bad for the start of a season considering he has so much work to do with improving his strike zone recognition. .311 ISO & a .384 w/OBA - Between Walker, Kepler, Buxton, and Harrison, the Twins have an XBH factory brewing in their lower level outfield. http://www.fangraphs.com/library/offense/ This Fangraph glossary does a great job of qualifying what each of these saber metric statistics represents in the grand scheme of things. The above two say a lot to me.
  12. The Walk / BB rate is overrated to me. Many feel Polanco is the most MLB ready player on the Lookout team. He has the same number of Walks as Walker. What Polanco does better, is make contact. If Walker can clean up those contact issues just a tad - he will be MLB ready too. Will be only 23 all season in AA. This is impressive for a guy with his lack of contact issues. Leads Southern League: HRs; RBI; TB; XBH; SLG; & SO and 4th in Runs Scored. All done Batting 7th in Lookout lineup. As you projected [ amjgt ]
  13. When has a player in the Twins system truly benefited from staying in the minor leagues for extended time? Who in recent memory has come to the bigs and played up to expectations? Both Santana and Vargas played above expectations last year and neither was expected to do what they did at the MLB level their Rookie seasons. Now they are center pieces. Arcia had a great minor league record and is showing that reps at the MLB level is his only need. Many players just need MLB failure to figure things out. REPS REPS REPS Minor league pitching (at any level) can not simulate the David Prices of the world. When the time calls for it - IT REQUIRES TRIAL BY ERROR
  14. Sano and Walker with 4 RBI Apiece (Good to still see the production as both try to figure it out early) http://www.milb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20150510&content_id=123650582&fext=.jsp&vkey=news_milb&sid=milb
  15. How close was Walker's 9th inning double to being a HR? Announcer on radio made it sound pretty close.
  16. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l3oAnVpk-ls Found Levi Michaels walkoff on youtube. Is that the video that you had posted?
  17. Great Stuff. Could not play the video you had. Not sure if the one posted below is the same one you had.
  18. Dalton "DJ" Hicks showed true speed scoring from first base on a routine double down the line by Walker in the Chattanooga win yesterday. I was impressed. Dalton Hicks looks slimmer this season and in better shape for a man his size. I bet his off season conditioning has a lot to do with his impressive start. http://www.milb.com/multimedia/vpp.jsp?content_id=95415983&sid=t498
  19. Not only is Walker leading all AA leagues in HRs at this point, but he is off to the best BA start of his professional career. He has a .956 OPS and leads the team in Total Bases. Why would you put either of those 2 ahead of him at this point? Possible potential? I'm more excited about actual power. And people - patience is a virtue. Especially at the minor league level. Sano and Buxton will be more than fine, as will Burdi and Reed.
  20. I agree with "Expectmorepayless" The Lookouts first series against Tampa AA is a contest of Organizational Top Prospects. Both teams are loaded. As people talk about chemistry and this team winning the FSL title - Understand that of the possible starting 9 (counting the DH & not counting the pitcher): Polanco; Buxton; Sano; Michael; Gonzales (DH); - Possibly 5 were not on that team. When you look at the starting pitchers (Berrios; Duffy; Peavy; Wimmers) - Only Baxendale was on that team for the championship. When you look at the bullpen - Only 3 - Burdi; Z. Jones; and Johnson were on that FSL Championship team. There are still a lot of new faces. Dougie baseball can't just mail it in. They will be challenged!
  21. I'm truly surprised about the release of Tyler Jones. Led his minor league teams in Saves the last 2 seasons and throws 95+. Somebody will pick him up for sure. Loved Grimes and hate to see him go, but I also understand that every player has to leave the game at some time. Can't wait to see these minor league clubs final rosters within the next week. Is assuming Rosario will be in AAA smart on my part?
  22. Heard game on radio. Both Peterson and Walker battled at the plate before striking out. That was at least encouraging. Looking for good at bats in camp. Read thread on Walker earlier. [6 HRs this week in minor league games with 4 off the batters eye] - Again encouraging. Love seeing young guys get a chance in ST.
  23. I heard AA lost for the first time this year in camp. I also heard AA roster is changed from what we read the other day due to MLB cuts.
  24. Is Chattanooga a hitters park or pitchers park? Because that batting order could be deadly. Five home runs today and none from the biggest home run threat on the team (Sano). Good to see Walker hit one to RF. Hicks has damn near 200 rbi over the last two years (Sleeper).
