Everybody will [AssUMe] that there is an IT. The IT is whatever the coaches are saying to him. Which none of us truly know. We all [Ass U Me] what is being said to him, but don't really know. Maybe he is working on something that will eventually improve his timing, but calls for possible more strikeouts in the process for now. Why don't writers ever ask minor league coaches what players are working on (specifically), so we don't always blame and reward players for all we see.

Paul Molitor and Twins Do In Berrios
GMinTraining commented on Ted Schwerzler 's blog entry in Off The Baggy
Everyone is caught up in make up defines this kid and scouting reports define this kid. Sometimes it is just the right time when it's the right time. We as fans have nothing to say or do with that time frame. Buxton will be a star. Berrios will be a quality MLB pitcher some day. Many of our prospects will be successful at the MLB level. It just may not be when we want it to happen. "Patience is a virtue" - No matter how bad we want to win now. -

BASH BROTHERS PALKA's 31st (AA & AAA) Palka and Walker tied for 2nd place in the home run derby in the 2011 Cape Cod summer league. Destined to be together. WALKER's 25th (AAA) These 25 are the most in Rochester since MLB vet Garret Jones hit 24 in 2005. Walker has now hit: 15 Appy League - short season (Rookie) 27 Midwest League - full season (A) 25 Florida State League - full season (A+) 31 Southern League - full season (AA) 25 International League - full season (AAA) 19 games left He won't be able to do this at the next level though? You might be right, but damn he's been a consistent power threat. At least 25 HRs in 4 straight seasons and has led his league in 5 straight. (and yes we know he has led the league in strikeouts too in 4 of the 5 seasons). September call up? Only position player on 40 man not to get a call up, but then again ABW has never been promoted before either. So no real surprise.

The Players I want to see called up...and a question about Arcia..
GMinTraining commented on huhguy's blog entry in Blog huhguy
I'd like to see pitchers Pat Light and Meijia and Wimmers get a shot. Wimmers only one not on 40 man. Walker is about to set International League record in SO, but is also on his way to leading 5 leagues consecutively in HRs - Appy; Midwest; Florida State; Southern League; and currently leading International League in his 1st year of AAA (24). Walker also has more BB than Rosario (6); Escobar (9); Plouffe (10); and Buxton or Susuki (13) all put together. So it's not as though he doesn't walk. He also has 191 Total Bases (Mauer is 2nd on Twins with 166 on Twins). His manager (Quade) swears by his work ethic and his defense has been solid in 2016 according to same manager as well. Walker would be the only 40 man roster position player not to be called up. That would be a shame IMO. Has been a theme with Walker [Never Promoted]. Ever? -
Article: Buxton Stalls Out, Again
GMinTraining replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The big question in Rochester is who gets released in order for Buxton to be on roster. Whoever it is, has been there damn near the whole season. Will be a rough send off? -

3 - 4 tonight with 3 of teams 5 hits. He could be on his way for that September call up. Leads AAA league in HRs and on the heals of leading in RBI again. That would be an amazing 5 years in a row that he could possibly lead his league in HRs & 4th in a row in RBI. .360 .420 .629 1.049 [bA / OBP / SLG / OPS] over last 24 games (July) http://www.milb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20160722&content_id=191038540&fext=.jsp&vkey=news_milb&sid=milb

Palka - 43 for 60 (72% rate) Walker - 41 for 53 (77% rate) Both are pretty successful at stealing bases. Smart if not fast Buxton - 107 for 136 (78% rate)

Article: Get To Know: Catcher Jairo Rodriguez
GMinTraining replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
He might be loved in Venezuela. Then not so dubious. A Kazillion job opportunities? Besides, article said he was very intelligent. He might be able to do many things. No college experience doesn't mean No skills. Just saying. They say that only 3% of professional baseball players actually have a college degree. The fact is that many/most minor leaguer's will struggle in there post playing days, if they don't invest wisely with the chump change they receive playing ball.- 11 replies

Do you seriously think Palka is a better defender than Walker in the outfield? (I promise not to respond - just curious why you think that way?) FWIW - Walker was a second team All American at first baseman at the D1 level. [splits / Vertical / Range]. He very well could play there for another team in the future. http://web.usabaseball.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=25495121

I agree. I think Walker is taking necessary baby steps and that another year of AAA will answer a lot of questions. I still love the fact that thru 5 grinding years, his numbers over a 162 game schedule are still phenomenally productive: 162 game averages 70 XBH 73% of hits are XBH's 120 RBI 35 HRs 96 Runs 202 Strike Outs 53 BB 12 SB 236 ISO 801 OPS Just praying he can continue to grow. He is still the 4th youngest player on AAA roster. These averages have been reasonably consistent over the years as well.

When people think of Jorge Polanco's defense they often think of him as a shortstop because of the Twins experiment. He is however - a GREAT defensive 2nd baseman. Rochester has an excellent defensive squad. (Fields, Beresford, Tovar, Polanco). HOW ABOUT THOSE RED WINGS - 15 GAMES OVER .500

What Would Happen If MLB Held An Expansion Draft?
GMinTraining replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
1) RH SP Jose Berrios 2) RH RP Nick Burdi (flip a coin w/ health) 3) OF Byron Buxton 4) RH RP JT Chargois 5) OF Max Kepler 6) OF Eddie Rosario 7) RH RP Trevor May 8) 2B Jorge Polanco (best defender and hitter at 2B) 9) 3B Miguel Sano 10) RH RP Tyler Duffey 11) SS Nick Gordon 12) LH SP Stephen Gonsalves 13) LH SP Tyler Jay 14) SS Eduardo Nunez (he's been good for both years we had him) 15) RH RP Trevor Hildenberger (just gets it done) Nobody is going to take Mauer's contract anyway despite the fact that he still has some gas in his tank. Nunez personality and free spirit will become infectious with young core. Dozier is holding back a better potential player in Polanco IMO. Polanco never should have been experimented at SS. He has always been a GREAT second baseman defensively and consistent hitter (11 doubles / 6 triples / 5 HRs - in AAA). Second guessing myself on Rogers; Pressley; and Gibson only.- 52 replies

Article: Setting Up For The Second Half

He is arguably the best defender on the club right now. It's his decisions once he gets the ball that plague him with coaches. He wants to throw out everybody. And damn near can - Lol- 96 replies

Article: Setting Up For The Second Half
GMinTraining replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Buxton has played his best ball when Walker was in the outfield with him. Haha Just joking but true. Did you know that Walker is the 3rd youngest player on the Rochester roster, behind only Berrios and Polanco? August call up. I know the K's are still bad - but 27 BB would be fourth on the Twins right now and he is still on pace for 28 HRs in AAA. Cup of Coffee won't change things much for the Twins - Lol- 96 replies

Article: Teaching Patience (At The Plate)
GMinTraining replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Walker does Walk about 40 to 50 times a year. That isn't his problem. His contact rate is what fails him. Most of the time I hear scouts say "too much movement in their load, while trying to swing" as a cause for poor contact hitters (not quiet). Maybe that is the case with some of our hitters. Can't see the ball if your moving too much while you're swinging. Staying quiet is the biggest key to pitch recognition - IMO. It can't be that all our guys just can't recognize pitches. Here is my problem with AAA as a building block for the MLB. The Rochester rotation has 3 of the 5 starters who throw 88 to 90 tops on their fastball. Our guys learn to adjust to the junk throwing pitchers and then have to go to the MLB where they throw 95+ with junk. That adjustment s a whole different story. AAA doesn't prepare you for that. AT ALL. Maybe against that stud (#1) pitcher in every teams rotation. Guys like Kepler and Buxton need to take their lumps in the MLB as well if they plan to understand MLB adjustments.- 61 replies

Walker did have 19 home runs and 59 rbi by All Star break (June 21st) of last year. He also had 23 home runs and 67 rbi by the end of June last year in AA. Similar averages and K rates at this point in season as well for AA. Walker had major struggles in second half despite leading AA in HRs and RBI. No argument. Walker was also 23 in AA last year. Palka is 24. Those two are only 1 month apart in age. There is time for both of them to improve in weak areas. I wonder what Walker would have done last year if he hit 3rd in order behind Buxton, Polanco and ahead of Sano. Maybe same thing, but I would have loved to have seen that. The only year he hit behind those 2, he had a 20% K rate that season. He since, has NEVER had the luxury of driving in Buxton or Polanco. By the time Walker would get up in the 7th spot, those 2 would have scored already or there was 3 outs already. This year he bats 8th and still ranks accordingly on team: HRs - 1st Total Bases - 1st Extra Base Hits - 1st RBI - 2nd Runs Scored - 2nd Base on Balls - 3rd (highest walk rate of career) It is Crazy how his team rankings stay so consistent yearly regardless to team in which he plays. - Lots of work to do and I'm glad he will get a chance to repeat AAA next year, Then and only then will I write him off. [23HRs and 67RBI by July 1st from the 7th spot last year ain't bad] (Lol)
-
AB Walker is a strange prospect. He has definitely performed worse in terms of contact. However, he is still 2nd on his team in RBI; Runs Scored; 3rd on the team in BB and 1st on the team in HRs; XBH; and Total Bases. He is who he is (Lol). His production is not what it was last year, but still among the best on his team in that category. He is also one of the only prospects to reach AAA who has never been previously promoted (in season) or to have repeated a previous level. He obviously needs to repeat AAA, and I would reserve the right to condemn him after that repeat year in AAA. Still leads his AAA league in HRs. Steven Moya made a batting adjustment this year and his average and OBP have gone up 80 points.
