  1. I am starting to join the bandwagon of fire Anderson--if they are making Deduno into a Twins-type pitch-to-contact guy then thats a crime. We need more effectively wild guys.
  2. The big offseason questions are whether to keep Casilla; trade Span/Morneau/Willingham; and find starting pitching. Parmalee and dozier are big parts of the answers. You have to call them up and give them playing time. I would also give a shot to Arcia and Hicks but only if you are going to give them OF playing time. Gardy said Span is batting leadoff so why would you call somebody up and then sit on bench. Definitely Walters and Vazquez should get some starts.
  3. I'm with you Bird. If you do the math... Terry Ryan has to take a run at one decent free agent starter. I don't know if a Free Agent Starter will sign with the Twins but Terry Ryan pretty much has to take a run at good one. Too much money coming off the books and too glaring a need to ignore the free agent pool this off season. I don't care about past track record. The past was the past and this is now. As for Morneau... There is the off season and the next trade deadline. No reason to move him unless it's for a pitcher and a good one. I'd also like to register a vote for death to the Rollover Pop Ups. I certainly understand the right to make money. Advertise away and more power to ya... But something less intrusive please. I second the motion on the Popup Rollover thingies--they are a big pain in the butt and make navigating this site almost impossible. Please stop considering Edwin Jackson an ACE pitcher. I live in Washington suburbs. The Nats have THREE ACE pitchers, Strasberg, Zimmerman and Gio. Edwin Jackson is not an ACE--he is Carl Pavano or Nick Blackburn or Scott Baker on their good days. I would not give Jackson $10million--not even sure if I would give him 5million. I would actually take Detwieler off the Nats staff before Jackson--Detweiler has more up side. Again, we have no idea what Ryan was offered for Justin. I am anxious to trade him and get the 14 million and move Parmalee to first. Justin is one concussion from retirement--which other teams know. His value will never be higher.
  4. Thanks Seth for a great article and a different type. Hopefully one or two will reach the show and realize their dream.
  5. It's not a matter of just "bucking up" and getting through it. Phobias are real mental issues based on an irrational fear of something. Span has had countless MRIs in the past yet we've never heard of this happening so I'm not going to chalk this up to "not trying" or just "not wanting to do something". He apparently tried to calm himself down and it didn't work. I'm not going to fault the guy for that. As one of many who have a fear of flying--lets not mock phobias. I get on a plane every couple of years--thats all I can bear to do--always a non-stop flight (less takeoffs and landings) only to Europe, if I need to go somewhere in the states I drive. (And yes post-9/11 airport security makes it worse-I always look and am nervous to the screeners). If Span has gone thru multiple MRIs being claustrophobic, good for him, dont get on his case when he finally couldnt do it.
  6. Very valid point. Walters should be on this chart--maybe number 5. Are we (you) writing off Baker and Pavs?? I assume Twins will offer incentive laden contracts to both--neither will have much value on the free agent market. It is worth a shot to bring back both (only on incentive laden contracts)--one could come back.
  7. I hate the idea of a SIX man rotation. I like the concept of giving tryouts in Sept.--the solution. Shut Diamond down--he is going to be our number 1 or number 2 guy next year. He doesnt need a tryout. Go with Duensing (lets see if with regular starts he can be like last night), Deduno (I like him with his effectiv wildness), DeVries (we need to be sure), Walters (if he is healthy--that means adding him back to roster) and Hendricks. Manship, Hernandez and the rest get there shot in traning camp.
  8. Me too--reminds me of Ryne Duren when I was a kid--so wild batters had no clue and wouldnt have solid AB. I hope it lasts--he deserves a chance to be in rotation in 2013--more so than Blackburn and Baker.
  9. Skip next start--or give him at least a weeks rest...then give him one more start to show he belongs in the rotation in Sept. If he has one more bad start either shut him down or stick him in the pen in a mop up role. He has one more year on his contract. Not sure under latest player union deal if you can DFA him next year or not but if he continues to suck, just DFA him spring 2013.
  10. I definitely agree wth those who say the remainder of this year should be about the 2013 and 2014 seasons...bring up kids who will be on roster next year like Parmalee and Dozier and Benson and play them.
  11. Amen. Lets get some pitching in here. In Sept. try Floriman and Dozier in middle IF both positions. I am beginning to wonder (I do this every year at this time) if Alexi isnt the answer at 2B--he can play the D and every so often gets a big hit--then I start thinking he is the answer.
  12. I agree. Parmalee needs to play almost every day the rest of the year (somewhere). If you play him in RF and he plays like Delmon and costs the Twins a game or two--who cares. The Twins are going to lose 90+ games anyway... We need to know if Parmalee can hit MLB pitching. Until we know that--we dont know if we can trade Justin this winter. The Twins need to be building for 2014--give Floriman, Benson, Dozier, Parmalee looks (maybe Hicks too). See who will be starting in 2014. And which vets you can trade for pitching and middle IF help.
  13. Good point--dont Hicks and Arcia have to be added this winter too?? I do not understand timing--2 weeks in Rochester will not do much... This all goes back to the Delmon trade...we wouldnt be having this discussion if Jason Bartlett was still here.
  14. I think both Revere and Span (and Morneau) should be on the trading block this offseason. Who do you trade?? Whoever brings the most. Trade any one of the three if you can get a solid MLB starter...then pull the others back. Thats simple. Yes, no more OF prospects or older utility IF.
  15. Yes, I think that is exactly what happens. The trade itself was basically getting an overage rookie league player for Valencia (better than a bus or a bucket of balls) who was done here. Nishi gets a chance to show Twins (and 29 other teams) what his MLB value is--but a short chance.
  16. I think you have to bring Parmalee up and play him at first. If the Twins are gonna trade Morneau this offseason (which looks likely) you have to know that Parmalee can play. Put Justin at DH to keep his bat in lineup--rotate Mauer, Doumit and Josh. It may cost the Twins a win or two or three but the season is gone. We have to know that Parmalee is part of our contending team in 2014.
  17. I agree with Seth--I think Dozier will be a solid MLB player--better D than Christian Guzman--maybe less offense. Good enough to play on a contending Twins team in 2014.
  18. Good article--good luck the rest of the season. Whenever I travel I pack a sudoku book (or games magazine) for the times I dont feel like reading.
  19. Good job guys--I was led to this sight by Howard Sinker column in March. A little disappointed that Howard is not on the site...still missing batgirl from a few years ago...now if you guys could get her to contribute...
  20. Should the Twins trade Morneau, Span, Revere or Willingham--absolutely if they can get a top-notch pitching prospect. I doubt teams will give them up for 2 guys with concussion histories, an OF with no arm, or an OF who should be a DH. These are the Twins top 4 players--but they are not all-stars. I love Span but not sure he could bring a top prospect. There is no need to make a trade just to make a trade. Stick to your guns--get value for one of these guys or wait till off-season. In the meantime, play Parmalee to see whether he can play 1B everyday.
  21. Again--why all the comments over this trade. Liriano was going at the end of the season for nothing. No way, TR would offer him a $12million one-year contract to get the draft pick. Not even CC or Verlander is worth $12million a year. We got two guys who most likely are not worth much--but that is more than we would have gotten at the end of the season. Frankie has 10 starts (more or less) to demonstrate his value for next year. I doubt he will get an offer of $12million (total for 3 years) he is too up and down.
  22. Best line on here--admit I skimmed some of the 8 pages. TR and rest of Twins mgt. knew they couldnt risk offereing Frankie $12mill next year--he could take it--he should take it. So they got 2 AAAA players--maybe one will improve maybe not. They dumped Frankie. The Twins werent gonna get a compensation pick. Maybe Frankie gets 3 years $20 million from some fool. Maybe not. Not the Twins problem
  23. I assume Krivisky too--I also think one year is not long enough to judge TR. He has to have time to recover from Bill Smith trades (like Delmon Young, Wilson Ramos) and build the system. The Twins tradeable assets (Span, Willingham, Revere) are limited.
  24. Actually this team is far from a contender. Mauer, Span, Morneau (as long as he stays healthy), Willingham/Doumit (offense only) are all MLB players. Diamond is the only consistent quality starter. Bullpen OK but not as good as 3-4 years ago. Revere, Dozier, Parmalee, Plouffe could all become MLB players but probably only 2 will. Benson, Hicks, etc. may replace Doumit/Willingham in 2014 as we build to a contender. Thats it--do you trade a prospect like Hicks?? Do you trade Willingham/Span/Morneau now when value high?? If you do you must get a player (pitcher) who will help in 2014. Liriano wont get that kind of value--given Willingham's lack of defense and Mornaeu's history not sure they will get value either. I think Ryan knows this.
  25. Storen is back--set up for now--a couple of mediocre appearances so far.
