  1. Guess I throw off your numbers--I am 64 and Dont drink...but I am white and male.
  2. If he signs a multi-year contract--second year will have to be $3 million or he wont take it. I would not be in a rush to commit $3 million to a 32 year old pitcher with an injury history. Offer 2 year $5million and see what happens--if nothing go to arbitration or sign him for 1 year and 2 million (maybe 2.3)...not an urgent situation he is under Twins control for another year.
  3. I too remember Yaz and F. Robby getting triple crowns and not dreaming I would go my whole working career (I was in college when Yaz did it and now am retired) without it being done again. On that I vote for Miggy. I also think MVP should come from playoff team--not sure either Tiggers or Angles will be there--but both are close enough. The MVP is for the WHOLE DAM season--Trout's Sept. slump should and will cost him votes. I can see the Trout arguments--starting with Defense--but I still go with Miggy.
  4. Done--yes less painful than a visit to the MD or DDS
  5. Yes--pick up a mediocre starter (Sheilds?? Peavy??) and maybe overpay him...trade Morneau/Span/Revere for another (younger) starter...go with IF next year of Parmalee, Dozier at 2B, Florimon, Plouffe with Carroll as UT...hope for Gibson/Baker to join Diamond and these 2 pitchers in rotation--with Deduno, Walters, DeVries battling it out in ST for 4 and 5 roles. Trade more at deadline (based on progress of Hicks, Arcia and Sano for 2014).
  6. This is a deep FA pitching class??? Grienke yes--if he could keep his head together. Sanchez maybe but not having a good time now with Detroit. The rest--you gotta be kidding. I wouldnt give any of them more than 6mill a year; or 15 mill for 3. They are not youngsters--staying healthy for 3 years is a question for all of them. I have stated on other threads that Jackson (#4 starter here for Nats--yes deep rotation) is overrated. I dont think he is better than Diamond. He may be the best after Greinke. Twins much better off trading Span/Revere/Morneau (packaged with somebody else) for a good number 2 starter or better yet a high prospect ready to pitch in 2014.
  7. I just want to see Hendricks get the win under his belt--so that discussion can be over. I watched Mob Doctor--that had to be worse than Revolution.
  8. Why would Baker sign an incentive laden deal now with Twins?? First they have $9 mill option that they have to formally decline. Wouldnt he then wait to see what other teams offer?? If Twins do it before free agency--they would probably have to guarantee at least $4 mill--cause Baker will otherwise say he will hope to get that much on market...
  9. I am using IE as my browser. Sometimes when I click on this site--I am logged in. Sometimes not. Just now, I had to relog in and clicked remember me. We will see if that works. Earlier I was viewing the article about shutting down Diamond, got redirected somewhere (not sure) and while moving heard an Obama ad (I may have fat fingered but I didnt do anything intentionally). I didnt click on ad which I dont want and was not trying to go anywhere. I like the site--especially the articles by Seth and Nick and JC and the comments (when they are not nasty). But it is DAM frustrating. Way too many ads (I know you guys want $$) and way too long to load. If the frustration stays I will go. How about reducing the ads per page??
  10. Yes shut him down--nothing to be gained if he pitches another 15-20 innings. While slight, he could risk long-term injury by pitching with a tired arm.
  11. Actually, the list is unimpressive. Peavy gets hurt, Haren's seen his best days. Greinke? Liriano is just too puzzling but, that's who they should go for. They won't and why would he want to pitch for a team with no discernible hopes? I agree unimpressive list. Hudson, Peavy, and Haren are way past their "buy by" dates. Grienke will not come to a non-contender. McCarthy, Jackson, Shields, Liriano, etc. are not aces. Sign one to a short (2 year) deal if you can--in two years none will be as good as Diamond. (or hopefully Gibson).
  12. I am hopeful that either Dozier or Florimon will improve defensively and take the SS job this spring. Yes, the Twins seem to have a problem with middle IF and pitching development. Guys who sign originally in Middle IF (Cuddyer, Plouffe, Sano) seem to move to other positions if they develop, otherwise they become mediocre. Hopefully, this will change with either Florimon or Dozier, but odds are not better than 5050. Middle IF will help pitching--so maybe Twins should look for a trade (like Elvis or Kinsler from Texas).
  13. After Diamond, doesnt look great. I agree with guy above--given that list--Blackburn will be given every chance. I think Walters will come back next year. So if we get a SP from Span, Revere or Josh--that means new SP, Diamond, Walters, Deduno and pick from Blackburn, DeVries, Duensing until Gibson is ready...not the greatest...
  14. Yes, thanks for the updates over the season. Congrats on the upcoming wedding.
  15. I just joined the thread--skimmed the 30plus comments--looking for 3 names that I never saw. I live in MD (closer to Nats than Os). Os improvement is more than luck. It is built around middle of the diamond nucleus that will be around for years. The three names are Adam Jones (stolen from Seattle--if memory is correct for Bedard) who is the Os Morneau of a couple of years ago, JJ Hardy (who the Twins should have kept) and their Mauer (Wieters) who finally developed. Jones is a better OF than anybody the Twins have, Wieters may or may not stay healthy enough to be a star C for the next 10 years. throw in Markakis who I rate highly mainly cause I was at the game he hit three taters vs the Twins...its a fairly young nucleus who could (and would in the AL Central) contend for the next few years.
  16. No current Twin has much trade value. Mauer has way too big a contract. Morneau has a one year ($14 mill) big contract and a concussion history (one more and he will retire like Koskie), Span has proven to be injury prone, Revere may be the best but doesnt walk and has poor arm, Willingham is a DH playing LF, Doumit has injury history (though not this year), Plouffe may have value if he has another year like this... The biggest trade value probably go to Sano and Hicks--but you dont trade your best projects (also true for Parmalee).
  17. I realized pretty quickly that the Twins were not going to contend. I basically "half checked out" at the start of the French Open (I like tennis) which was end of May...since then check hilites and this web site daily (excpet when on vacation. Follow box scores to see how guys who will be on our contending team in 2014 are doing. Thats about it.
  18. Yes, DeVries should be given a rotation spot next year he has earned it. The Twins must trade for a top line starter...no top free agent will come here. Then Diamond at number 2, with DeVries (at least until either Gibson is ready or league figures him out) then Deduno, Hendricks, Blackburn, Walters fight for other spots. Hopefully we have seen the last of Baker and Pavano.
  19. I wish I could find the link--but with all the commentary on Strasberg--there is one person who should know. That is somebody who was abused and overworked and lost a long career--like a Steve Avery mentioned above. A month ago I read an interview with the Os version of Strasberg 15 or 20 years ago--Ben McDonald--he was as hyped then as Strasberg is now. He said--no choice--Strasberg has to be shut down--no questions asked--he wishes the Os had done it for him all those years ago. Again I wish I could find the link. I think the Twins need to be careful with Gibson--yes 160IP max between majors and minors--keep him in AAA till mid may--pitch him here in June (assuming he is ready)--DL him in July around the AS break (the Nats should have done that with Strasberg)--pitch him here from July 20--till he reaches 160IP total. He will have a long career--the Twins will be contending (hopefully) in 2014 and he should be ready to go...
  20. Amen to that. Add Morneau and Doumit to list. Trade whomever will bring in starting pitching or a good 2B. The only ones I would not trade are the young ones (Benson, Parmalee, Hicks, etc.)
  21. I disagree--other gms are not dumb--they know Josh will be 34 and can only decline--they also know that Josh is basically a DH playing LF. There is a reason the Twins are where they are--their best players all have weakness in the trade market--Morneau with a big contract and concussion history, Span with injuries, Revere with no arm, Josh with no defense and an aging guy. TR needs to put all of them out there and see what he gets offered. No way, we know who will bring the most in Middle IF or pitching or prospects.
  22. Some good points...scary too if you are right...why not play Parmalee at 1B?? Why put him in RF when he is a natural at 1B?? Is Ryan going to shop Justin?? The Twins are OF heavy with Span, Revere, Josh (one of whom will go this season) Mastroanni (?sp), Doumit and Hicks, Benson etc. on the way. Yes call up Hicks and Arcia and give them a taste. Call up Dozier too--try the Florimon/Dozier DP combo. We should be building a team that will contend in 2014 starting right now.
  23. The answer has to be trade somebody (Morneau, Span, Revere, or Willingham). Who do you trade--whoever can bring the best starting pitcher. Morneau will be in his walk year and has concussion history (so I doubt he will bring much), Willingham is a DH playing in LF. So my guess is trading Span or Revere and playing Parmalee in RF next year. I would like to see him at 1B, but it is doubtul the Twins will get much for Morneau.
  24. LMAO... This is the one I dont understand. I was in favor of giving Dozier starts in Sept. OK--Gardy is throwing him under the bus for now--lets hope he gets the shot he deserves in spring training. But Escobar--224 at Rochester...failed with the ChiSox...he looks like a poor version of Lexi...what is he doing get called up. He wont be part of a contending team thats for sure.
  25. Just to throw in one fact--Johan was a rule 5 draft pick--I am not saying Diamond is another Johan--but he easily could be a Brad Radke type number 2 starter.
