  1. Seth--thanks again for this feature--one of my favorites on Twins Daily. It is good that he mentioned the scout--scouts play a big role in development of players and dont get credit. Did you mean "Trouble With the Curve"?? The Clint Eastwood/Amy Adams movie??
  2. If Sano does well in Ft. Myers in the spring, bring him up to New Britain in June or July and give him a Sept. callup so he can experience "the show". 2014 he needs to start in Rochester and stay there unless he has real good numbers. I think Twins should leave him at 3B and let him play 2 more years in the minors to improve his defense. Besides, Parmalee looks to be our 1B in 2014 and beyond.
  3. I agree with JC--I view Mussina and Kent as being a step below Maddox and Glavine. In fact, I view Mussina as a step below Morris--I hope Morris makes it next year--if I am not mistaken he has most wins in the 80s--that should get him in. As to the Rocket and Barry--I have mixed feelings--they are both PED users--but their stats are so superior (I view Barry as the second best player I have seen in my life--behind only Willie Mays) that they should get in anyway. If neither Barry or Roger ever gets in--the HOF will have credibility issues.
  4. Happy New Year to Seth and Austin and all the Twins Daily writers and readers. Good luck in 2013 Austin--hope you get to Cedar Rapids. Seth again thanks for this feature.
  5. RIP Ryan Freel... A player who always hustled, who always gave the proverbial 110%. I enjoy watching players like that who play above their talent. A shame that he lost the battle with his demons.
  6. Happy Holidays to everybody who reads, blogs and writes at Twins Daily--a great site.
  7. Nats fans here (including my son) couldnt wait for Nats to Nyjer somewhere...anywhere...if we give this guy a dime...I will also throw up. I would rather have Little Nicky Punto as my utility OF...and that is a really desperate thought.
  8. Great reply--the third scenario describes Campy to a "T"--I was a kid when Dodgers moved from Brooklyn and then Campy had his serious auto crash--and yes got in after a fairly short career (in comparison to other HOFers). I do think that Mauer needs to have another 2 or 3 seasons at least at his 2012 level--with most of his ABs coming as catcher to make the HOF. If he doesnt produce another 300BA or a year with power numbers he will come up a little short...
  9. If you look at Pelfry's numbers--he seems to be a Brett Saberhagen type--a great year followed by a mediocre (at best one). He was great in 2008 and 2010--good ERA, 200 IP double digit wins. In 2009 he sucked with an ERA over 5. In 2011 he was slightly better. In 2012 he was hurt. His upside (2008 and 2010) is greater than anybody but Diamond. If we get that in 2013--fine--tell him thanks for the year and bring up Meyer. If we dont get that--he is gone costing about 5million. I like this,
  10. I dont think Ryan planned to add much free agent pitching...Grienke and Sanchez were never coming here...the rest of the market is thin...Dempster is mediocre and age 35 (36 next season) why give him a multi-year contract. Haren to me was the choice but he would rather go to Nats and have a shot at a trophy. Marcum, Blanton and Jackson are all in their 30s, all up and down but overall mediocre. Giving them 3 year $30 million is a waste of money. None are that much better than DeVries, Deduno, etc. Best bet is to trade for a veteran pitcher like Royals did with Shields. Then hope that Meyer, Gibson or Hendricks can be a good Twins pitcher second half of 2013.
  11. Again Seth--thanks for this feature--I love it (and the stache). Given the Twins glut of OF prospects I would like to see Roberts get a crack at 2B and 3B at New Britain just to see if he could handle it. It would make him more valuable to the Twins and make the Twins better if he could be an all around utility guy instead of 4th OF.
  12. My hunch--Gardy (who is no dummy) knows he is gone...I hope he is looking at other jobs when they do come open and leaves the Twins during the year...our next manager should be younger (born in 1960s) to relate to kids who will be here in 2014 and 2015...that eliminates Molitar, Glynn and Ryno. Brunansky was born in 1960...
  13. I am not a big fan of this trade either. But at Correia has been injury free he past couple of years and will give us another starter until Gibson and Meyer are ready. He cant be much worse than DeVries--and remember that Twins were gonna pay Baker almost 10 mill next year anyway. I doubt big name pitchers will consider Twins--our corner OF defense (Doumit, Parmalee, Josh) is worthless--our middle IF and CF defense is unproven prospects like Hicks, Benson, Dozier, Florimom---that means added ER.. Does anyone know why you cant get to comments on original article but have to go to Forum??
  14. I love these prospect interviews and the players who post here. Thanks seth and adam--hope we see more.
  15. Amen--Couldnt have said it better.
  16. couldnt have said it better myself.
  17. A dissenting voice--dont like this trade... Worley is a decent pitcher--maybe a number 3--will be number 2 on Twins--but wont be enough to get us to 500. The other pitcher (May) had an ERA approaching 5 in AA ball. No matter what the official prospect list says--he is not a top prospect...bottom line we didnt get enough for Revere. We now have holes in CF and middle IF--yes maybe Hicks or Benson can fill CF hole, maybe not. With Willingham, Doumit, and/or Parmalee in OF, CF is going to need to be a track star to get all the balls...our pitchers are gonna give up runs. with this OF. 2014 and forward may work IF Hicks does the job...
  18. While Marcum seems to be a (slight) step up from Edwin Jackson and the rest--I agree with those above--he is at best a weak number 2 (like Diamond). Maybe the best thing for Twins is sign him to a 2 year deal (with 3rd year option) for about 25mill and give DeVries, Deduno, Walters, etc one last shot to show something this year. Hope gibson is good in June and trade at deadline for pitcher.
  19. Sounds like the discussion I had this weekend with my son who is a Nats fan...this trade is a huge gamble for both teams. We have no idea what Meyer will be in 2015 (ace, closer, starter, bullpen guy, still in minors). Nats have no idea about Span--he has concussion (and other) injury history. Span gives them leverage to trade LaRoche, Morse, etc but do they hold on to them in case of injury... Very interesting trade--I agree with Nick--rather see the Twins get a potential ace in 2015 for Span than a mediocre number 3 starter like Edwin Jackson, Joe Blanton, etc. who may (or may not) add 5 wins in 2013.
  20. Thanks to both David and Seth--good article--always nice to see (hear??) the personal side of players.
  21. Me too--throwing 6mill to mediocre pitchers is ridiculous. Trade off Span, Morneau, etc. for a few good pitching prospects and hope some come out of our current minor league crop and go for 2014 and 2015.
  22. Having just spent 20 minutes reading all these messages--I think the main point has been lost. The Twins have poor pitching and middle IF. Spending $35 million (over 3 years) on starting pitching like Jackson, Blanton, etc. is not going to help much. If we are lucky the cost will be slightly less than a million a win...none of these guys are aces...none will win 15 games next year with the current Twins. The one thing the Twins have done over the past 5 years is develop OF--the obvious answer is to trade one of Span, Revere, Arcia or Hicks or Willingham for a decent starter (as good as Jackson at least) and figure how to develop pitching and infield...spending $60million on two of this year's free agent pitchers will not help anything...
  23. I wonder if Redmond will build a team in Miami starting with the Jays prospects he took in trade and will actually stay there a while. Remember he knows those prospects better than most cause he managed in Jays system this year...
  24. Top 3: Kaat, Bert andRadke Next 3: Johan, Sweet Music and Mudcat, The rest: Pscual, Goltz Tapani and Perry
  25. C--Mauer 1b--Parmalee 2b--Dozier 3b--Plouffe ss--Elvis Andrus (write in) OF--Revere, Willingham, Arcia DH--Doumit
