  1. The Twins could be hitting like Boston this season, and Mauer would still be stinking.
  2. I do understand your point, but I said it was a bad contract on day one. Mauer should bat second or seventh.
  3. Juan Centeno
  4. Without movement and a good change-up, I doubt the regained speed of his fastball will help provide much more than momentum for home runs.
  5. Four players into three slots is actually a pretty easy platoon. The odd man out is also likely the first pinch hitter, so what's the problem? Having one or more of these guys play an extra position is even better.
  6. Ryan lost Hicks to promote a last gasp outfielder hitting .194 for the Red Wings. We have such a great GM.
  7. I don't recall ever seeing a player strike out 9 times out of 12 official at bats. It may have happened, but I don't recall seeing such futility. He did walk twice, so it was 9 SO out of 14 PA, but that is still horrible.
  8. Buxton is 9 for 12 in the last three games. That is pretty darn good.
  9. Then hire him as a coach.
  10. I got the sarcasm. I just wanted to add another Minnesota related jab at a front office. When Boston picked up Ortiz, a was upset. Many Twins fans gave me the "He hasn't done anything, so what's the big deal?" line. One just doesn't give up that power potential for nothing, and the Twins did exactly that. For the Wolves, the Wiggins/Love deal looked good at first, but Thaddeus Young needed to be signed, and I have no idea why the Wolves kept Anthony Bennett over a first round pick from Miami. Then the Wolves traded Young for a washed up Kevin Garnett which made the deal much worse. If it had been Garnett five years ago, then fine, but not now. That would have been like the Vikings trading Everson Griffen to Chicago for a last hurrah with Jared Allen or the Twins bringing in a long lost Twins outfielder for $10.5 million for one season just prior to his retirement. I do agree about the Wolves needing a PF, and that is why that trade was not a good one. We probably should find someplace else to talk about the Wolves, or our posts will get deleted.
  11. That would be like the Timberwolves trading a good power forward for a washed up Kevin Garnett. Only an idiot would do that. Anyway, the Twins did not trade Ortiz, they just let him go for nothing.
  12. Plouffe was playing well this past week, and now he gets injured. We gotta find the person with the Twins voodoo doll.
  13. If a veteran .300 hitter hits .280 in spring training, it is no big deal. If a guy who is barely in the Bigs struggles in spring training, that is meaningful. By similar progression, was he expected to hit .350 this year? Buxton did go from striking out every game to striking out every two or three games, and that is good. He went back to striking out almost every game this season. It was obvious he was not ready for major league pitching.
  14. I get what you are saying, but one cannot ignore his performance because he is on a bad team. If we were talking about him not getting RBIs or not getting good deep count pitches, I could see that, but swinging at pitches in the dirt and not swinging at pitches over the plate cannot be excused by being in a bad lineup. It is a bad situation for many of these players because their is no veteran leadership presence on this team. This is not a mix of quality veterans and a few young players; it is a team with young or suspect players up and down the lineup card.
  15. The book is still out, but it was pretty obvious this spring that he was not ready to go. The Twins would have done better to give him time at AAA, and give him more at bats. Buxton isn't ruined, but this season may be.
  16. Buxton is playing like I thought he would; he was not ready last season, and nothing has changed to improve his game. Teams that are good year after year bring in young players and mix them with a capable veteran roster. Bringing in so many rookies or second year guys and expecting them all to perform is not a logical expectation. Some teams will do this to give many players experience at once and build through an improved draft, but the team will suffer, and the product will not be high quality for fans. The Twins did this in the early 80s, and Houston had done this recently, but Minnesota had awful teams for so long already that one would expect a better mix by now. This begs the question, where are the veterans? I don't mean overpriced end of career players and cast offs; I mean quality veterans in at least some of the fielding positions on this team. What upgrades have been made? The Twins didn't think all of these young guys would solve all of their problems; did they?
  17. The Twins starters are doing fine. Both potential closers have failed to produce, and Casey Fien looks like he will make All Star weekend as the player that serves up pitches for the home run derby. The Twins have no hitting, but the lineup still is set up like the team has a classic roster with a lead off hitter and a high contact hitter batting second. As was feared, this roster is not ready for the major leagues.
  18. It begs the question, why are these guys getting the green light to steal bases? It is not like they are trying to swipe an easy base or two from the Twins' catchers.
  19. The alternative is to throw no movement fastballs into the middle of the strike zone like Fien does.
  20. http://s2.quickmeme.com/img/dc/dc2fd6da2c741a3b2f6ae5fcf700e06fafe43267ea271579118ef4292ffb25c6.jpg
  21. The Twins are looking more like Brunansky every day: low average with a lot of strike outs. The Twins traded Bruno for those reasons. Why would they want a team that plays like him?
  22. Yikes! Double digits again yesterday. When a guy hits 40 home runs and drives in 100 RBI, then the strike outs are part of the game, but it is not likely all of these players will hit 30 or 40 home runs.
